Being that I work in NYC I was gonna download TMaps - NY but it kept telling me that I didn't have enough memory and I had to delete some applications to clear up space, which I did but still no luck, Then I looked at how big the TMaps app is -- 10MB -- ouch. Whoever has the space to install that big sucker please be sure to post a review!!
How sad it is that on a phone with 8 GIGAbytes of storage that a 10MB app cannot be installed...FIX IT, PALM!
its still a bloated app. the image for ny subway is 140k. the manhattan bus pdf is 270k. even if we have 10 maps at 270k each, we are talking 2-3mb. there's no excuse for it to be 10mb
just find a decent image of the subway map on the internet and put it on you phone.

It will be nice when palm updates their apps webpage (they only show 96 apps)and none of the last entries have beed added for a couple of weeks. http://www.palm.com/us/products/software/mobile-applications.html
It was never a complete list. Many of the good apps were never listed. Seems to be about who has partnerships with Palm or something.
More apps for what??? We don't have sufficient storage for them!
TMAPS is great. Now I can see the buses and train connects. Detailed downtown manhattan even has the entrances/exit locations
how many apps does palm have now?
webOS apps = 266
palmOS apps = tens of thousands...
I have to agree with these comments about the memory limitation.
Let me say first of all, all the developers out there do a fantastic job. I'm grateful to them, and I'm sure everyone else on here is too.
But.
It really seems ridiculous for Palm to work so hard to put out so many apps, when they've set up such an asininely small partition to accommodate them. Yes, I know about the Fair Dinkum fix-around, and fixing and tweaking and working around is fine for the little things on this phone, but this is a MAJOR issue. My point is, the whole problem with the app partition is something PALM should fix themselves -- in the form of a complete webOS update!
Yes, I know all this has been said before; I'm just jumping in here with my 2 cents.
Yeah yeah yeah, its the same ol' story. Yes, we all know about the app storage limitation and there's is nothing we can do about it except for the app we know about to fix it. Lets stop complaining about what's wrong with the phone and enjoy it. We all have had the pre for a while now and lets just face it, we aren't going anywhere. Yes I wish the pre did some things that it doesn't but I guess I am going to have to wait like evryone else.
You know, you might be right. I got to use the HTC Hero for the weekend as I waited for my refurb. Pre to arrive on Monday, (speaker & touchscreen died), and I have to say, I loved using that phone. (If it had a keyboard, I would have ditched the Pre in a second. Hmmm, Droid has a keyboard...)
If Palm can't start fixing performance issues, and start rolling out basic features, (notification sounds, voice memos, video recording, text forwarding, etc.), that all past Palm devices have had for years, then it'll be time to move on. ...say, by the holidays.
Life's too short to wait a year for webOS to "catch up".
Not when there are so many other viable options.
I've been a Palm user forever, (Pilot, Treo, Centro), but, if Palm can't keep up with the HomeBrew community, I'll use whatever device best meets my needs. (i.e. replace the functionality of my old Centro)
But, by complaining prior to leaving, I'm giving Palm the chance to actually address these issues.
But, I've got to get back to re-building my refurb. Pre the way I had it - Palm Back-up, ...not so much. ;-)
50 new apps today--29 October. Many are language dictionaries, etc., but lots of apps today
