New in the App Catalog for 30 March 2010 30
We were hoping that we were going to be able to lead off today with a post saying that the App Catalog had finally broken out of beta internationally and everybody could now buy webOS apps, but it seems that Palm still has some kinks to work out. When those kinks are worked out, you’ll have plenty of apps to look at. Like the previous app drop, yesterday brought dozens (6.33 dozen to be specific) of updates bringing international meta-data into the mix, but we also were graced with more than a dozen more new apps. Among those new apps: Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. As was discussed on last night’s PalmCast Live, planes + explosions = good times. Of course, H.A.W.X. isn’t the only good time to the App Catalog - there's all sorts of new stuff, and it’s all listed after the break. Right. Now.

There was one paid app in the cat and a few house later it was gone! I'm hoping we will see a flood of apps dedicated to the UK user, London Tube app etc etc but i fear the paid app cat for the UK user is going to be nothing more than hype. (12.59 GMT)
I've got no paid apps in Denmark. Here's what Palm had to say:
13:24 Karsten Skov: when will I be able to buy sw from the app catalog
13:24 S. Mauri: The next update will allow you to do so and it will be released very soon.
13:25 Karsten Skov: also as a "non official" user ? (Denmark)
13:25 S. Mauri: I'm afraid there might be some issue with that.
13:26 Karsten Skov: Thought so
13:26 Karsten Skov: any solution ahead ?
13:27 S. Mauri: I don't know Sr. That is up to the development department and they don't inform us of such things.
Yeah, I also don't really expect support for us "unofficial" users... But we'll see and hopefully be pleasantly surprised :-)
H.A.W.K. is like Glyder2 on steroids with enemies and missiles.
Highly recommended, and will be supported by WebOS Internals' new Save/Restore application ( http://bit.ly/saverestore ) in the next version, so you'll never lose your progress.

Does the wifi mode works with other phones like iphones as well or only w pre?
The usual from Palm, build up the hype then piss people off by not making deadlines. Once is ok, twice is careless, but every time??
As a UK Palm Pre user since launch, my patience has worn out. I"m off to Android, it's not as good, but the overall hardware and consumer experience doesn't piss me off on a daily basis.
At least let them get in the door first before you assume that Europe catalog isn't going to go live. They're still asleep on the west coast.
very true, and we should also note palms penchant for evening or late night releases.
Have to agree. Been patient with it but it's just getting too much, there is always something wrong. If there is not an improvement in the quality of apps and software issues then i will be off. Next update is my time to decide. If there is any resale value of the Pre i will sell it and put it towards clearing the contract.
You say that you are pissed off at Palm for building hype and then pissing people off but at least they try, they update about once a month and are starting to get some great things into the App Store such as 3D gaming which Android DOES NOT have. Android is becoming so fragmented with one phone on one version such as the Nexus One on 2.1 with certain features like pinch to zoom and other phones on earlier versions like 1.5, and 1.6 without features. No phone running Android has the same experience from one phone to the next, trust me, I was using it before WebOS.
I understand frustration at waiting for deadlines and then those deadlines being missed, but if its a day or two at most, you can't fault them too bad. Even companies as "reliable" as Apple miss deadlines, just look at the newest shipping delays on the iPad.
Don't stick with Palm if they piss you off that much but don't blame it on missing deadlines.
Palm is on USA Pacific Time Zone. At the time of this post it is 8:11 am Pacific Time. Your complaining will be justified in about 15 hrs and 49 mins. I believe Palm will deliver as they stated

Sadly I'm with scaramanga89 on this.
Palm have missed the boat so often now that it's time to jump ship.
In the (distant) past they were a shining example of what could be done with an innovative and agile company.
They have since lost their way and bet the farm on an admirable product (webos) that they have singularly failed to market effectively.
For example, in the U.K. why on earth did they agree to sell their "iphone killer" solely through the same provider that at that time had a monopoly on iphones?
Regrettably, I shall be moving to an android of some description as soon as my contract allows.
Wouldn't it be great if we could bookmark/flag/tag or somehow mark an App as one we are interested in? I'd love to find one of these in the App catalog after Derek's excellent write-up, mark it, so I can check back in a few days by going back into the App catalog, clicking on some sort of button for "watched apps" then I can read the reviews. I don't like to jump right in and shell out 6.99 for a game (or 9.99 for the wifi sync which sounds cool) without a few reviews. And if I wait a week or two, then I can never find the App again, because searching and categories in the App Catalog are so limited because they suck. Anyone else like that idea?
That would be awesome. What I've been doing is i've downloaded the stickpad app and when there is an app that i think i might like, but doesn't have many reviews i put it on there, and then check back after a couple of days
That's cool, but what's stickpad? I don't see it in app catalog,, will check preware now...
I'm sorry its called stickyman.
I think it's an excellent idea. But in the meantime, you can use the "Share" button to email yourself the app. Then you can probably set up an email filter to move those emails to a folder that you can pull up later.
I am getting a little bit hacked off with this too. I have had 3 replacement phones due to the hardware quality and the software problems are something that Palm could at least get right. As with the app store......a joke.
Android of some description for me. As a poster above, i am going to try and sell mine to help clear the contract.
Could precentral do an app review on the wifi media sync app? If it works good that would be sweet i would never again have to open the crappy usb door. I could just put my phone on the touchstone and then add stuff through my wifi, but i don't want to drop the 10 bucks and it be crappy.
+10
I'm just curious to see how many people who posted their frustrations have the Pre vs. Pre Plus. As a new Pre Plus owner, I can't really complain about software glitches cuz well..there haven't really been any to complain about. Granted the app catalog could use a boost, but i think we'll see some improvement once the devs with the new PDK start bringing in more apps.
Can some one make a YesObama app? Definately better than Bush!!
haha I was going to comment on this too. I can't believe someone went out of their way to make this app. Complete with soundboards! Lol
yeah i laugh. Especially all the wall street people considering the Dow is up considerably since he took office and they are all making money hand over fist. Darn things almost at 11,000. But yeah much better then the last guy.
That's nice, but it was above 13,000 when Obama started making his election promises(Lies...) and talking down the economy.
The Plus isn't enough of an upgrade for me to justify sticking with it. I will have to pay O2 even more money for another 8GB of storage and fixes to hardware that shouldn't have to be made.
I really want to support Palm, and I think the pre is a great phone, but a minor update isnt going to float my boat. Plus the App store should have been here ages ago. Some great ones mind you, had a look .
Ultimate Wallpaper! is a terrific app. I've been using it for a week or so (in beta) and upgraded to the final last night. Recommended.
I don't understand when people complain about hardware issues.. I bought my pre from a guy for 50 because he dropped it in a toilet. It is a launch pre that I sold him as I work for a company that sells phones. The only issue I had was that the left side of the screen wasn't registering touch. I took it apart, cleaned up the contacts and it has bee working like a champ for the past 4 months. It is a durable phone. Maybe I got lucky and got a strong one or something, but if you have any "skills" with electronics, the palm pre isn't hard to fix yourself.
