I’m sad. We closed out September last month, and the only thing we have to look at for the start of October is a fresh batch of targeted reference books from AppBookShop. Really, yesterday’s only new apps were single eBook packages. Like “The Golden Retriever Care Manual,” or “A Garage Remodeling Reference Book.” Exciting stuff, eh? You don’t think so? Well, hopefully something in the updates section will make you feel better. It’s all after the break, waiting, wishing, and hoping to be something more.

this platform really needs developers developers developers developers
first second and third
It sure does. I don't even bother looking at the catalog anymore because nothing of any real substance is ever added.
Now that the hot apps program is over, I wonder if we are going to see a significant decline in apps being added?
Don't worry, the upcoming webOS printer will open the floodgates for printer apps ;)
There are always going to be plenty coming from Appbookshop and lots of soundboard apps.
Im curious to see what kind of apps the HP employees have made.
I can't stand seeing all of these book apps! It's so annoying trying to wade through them and find a new app. What's more, they are $4.00? App Spam if I've ever seen any! I will never buy one of their books.
Absofrigginlutely OT but I have to ask. Does the "tip us" Link even work? I've tipped PC off three times now with stuff I found. Nothing was never picked up on.
First one: Duke Nukem on pre, showed up weeks later, should have been huge at the time.
Second one I can't remember, D'oh.
Yesterday: Spotted Pre in Weeds S06E06 around 18 minute mark. That's not newsworthy?
Is the "tip us" link broken somehow?
If not, plz disregard :)
I'm the new guy at Precentral and if you have something interesting to report, you can send it to me and I'll make sure it gets looked at. For now, you can email me at nathanmylott@gmail.com.
This, btw, is not my actual Precentral username if you want to look for me in the forums. My right username isn't working so I'm using this temporarily. My real username is the same, minus the underscore, so Nathan Mylott.
Seriously, these guys should just release a single ereader capable of reading common ebook formats and include a feed for their own new books instead of flooding the app catalog. As for developers, if any of you are reading, now is the time to develop. WebOS 2.0 is coming out soon and any cool new app is guaranteed A LOT of FREE MARKETING. Whoever says webOS is not a lucrative platform needs to check their facts. For example, Angry Birds has 24K downloads at 2$ a pop. That's $48K just from one game. Pretty lucrative if you ask me.
you should ask the newsroom guy about how lucrative developing for webos is.
Agree about the book apps; just more junk to have to sift through to find anything of value. Is it really time for developers to support webOS? Sure, some benefits will come from 2.0, but it will still be based on old, unreliable and outdated hardware. Angry Birds sold approx 6.5 million just for the iPhone alone, so the 24,000 for webOS represents only 0.4% of iPhone sales. If this is a reflection of the market in general, and considering some apps may not port over to webOS as easily as Angry Birds did, is it really worth the developer's time for a 0.4% incremental improvement? Add to that HP's non-commitment to new devices or even a reference to where they are positioned on the infamous 12-month roadmap--I would say that developers are wasting their time.
I'm hoping for something new soon, but given that the competition is rapidly fortifying market share through strong developer support and given HP's nonchalant attitude towards its measely 5% market share, I'm starting to believe that webOS for the phone is a dying platform.
Holy Cr-appbookstore Batman!
There's developers. They are just are not making the apps people want. There's a app request thread full of what people want. People are just like, "nah i'd rather make a bible app." That's fine, it's their time. But if what i want is Yahoo fantasy football app i'm not gonna be appeased by golden retriever manual or beach.
you forgot unofficial precentral app ! this is a useful app isn't it?
