New Palm ads actually describe Pre features 42

by Derek Kessler Mon, 17 Aug 2009 10:54 am EDT

*GASP*

We’ve been trying to find video of these for over a week now and they’ve finally ended up on the YouTubes. They are Palm commercials that instead of creeping us out actually talk about the Pre’s unique features. The video above is for Synergy’s linked contacts, though you have to really be paying attention to notice she’s showing that the contact linked to Facebook, Google, and Exchange.

One more commercial after the break

The commercial below would make Roger McNamee smile: "I’m running late" (the phone pops up an alarm notification for an Exchange calendar app), "I should contact the meeting’s attendees and let them know."

What do you guys think?  Better? [via PreThinking]

im glad they are FINALLY talking about the phone now. but this chick is terrible.

and if modernista's idea is to create talk about the pre with a creepy campaign these people are idiots. me and any three random people from this website can come up with a better campaign then modernista. this is such a terrible campaign. i feel ashamed when the ads come on now. before i would be excited and show to everyone that hey here is the commercial for my phone. after the ridicule i now change the channel. why don't they use this commercial ever its really good and talks about the phone and shows the phone and not this creepy bitch. seriously she is aweful. this ad below is much more in line with what i expected to see for the pre's ad campaign. its elegant, shows the phone (duh), and has a cool feel to it. you can build upon this one to make it hip/edgy/etc. this tamara chick you can do nothing with except hope they stop airing it. that's my 2 cents.

Do you treat the same way / value the same : a Key account (N

So you expect to features for more than one app per commercial? Are you an idiot? Who would remember features from two or more different applications in an advertisement? Nobody!

These new commercials are spot on, but could be a little bit longer.

More than one app? You mean like those iPhone App ads that are all over TV? Yeah, those are totally ineffective.

hahaha nice :)

I saw few of these 15 second spots. Well done.

I just learned about the calender one last night.

how do you get that calender feature to work where it automatically replies to the people? i dont see it on my reminders.

It gives you an option after you get the calender alert. I checked it out after the start time passed and it automatically put in "I'm running late, be there shortly" in an email to the attendees.

I think it's funny that they replaced her voice with someone else's cuz they knew her voice was too creepy.

She sounds the same to me...

why cant i see these videos on the pre? what would it take to at least see a box where the video is at. right now there is just blocks of white space.

The Pre does not support Flash, thusly you do not see YouTube videos in-browser while using the Pre. Why it doesn't display a placeholder, that's a mystery for the ages.

that's why i used "see" and not "watch." ;)

can precentral post a link to view them via the web version of youtube or the pre youtube ap?

They do have the youtube versions linked into the story already. Just click on the green underlined words.

you would think that if they were "showing off" a feature, it would be a feature that actually works well. i still can't delete some of my fb and aim contacts even after i deleted them online. the only way seems to be to delete the whole profile all together and repeat the painstaking process of relinking all the profiles.

Here is the Palm advert that they should use - cool, talks to all the features and is memorable for all the correct reasons.

The Palm Pre advert that should have been http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYAHsz8BxDk

Palm put this together before the PRE but with slight modification this would hit all the right buttons in my opinion

Is it me, or is the marketing face for the pre the worse choice possible? Such a great device with such a BLAND personality marketing it.

The Borg is ("is" because the Collective is one) not concerned with aesthetics. "Resistance as you know it is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own."

You know, I agree with ALL of you guys, but I was in Court this morning & the girl next to me saw my phone & went ga-ga over it. I asked her 'How did you hear about the phone?" and she replied "Oh, all those commcerials on TV". So, Im not sure if it was creepy bitch campaign or Cool Sprint Donut campaign or both, but it SEEMS to be working...

I think these adds are great, I think all of you here at this site has NO business sense. Let's make adds that start with "If you want to do this... there is an app for it" while we are at it, just another iPhone wanna be. These adds are deffrentiating the Pre from anything out there and creating a buzz. Go read some marketing books and come back and comment, oh wait, I forgot, all of you here are way smarter than Palm marketing department, they should hire you instead. What bunch of losers!

hey dude i've seen you post this before and i have to say you're the one with no business sense. i have a grad degree with a concentration in marketing. you dont read marketing books to get marketing education either, you do case studies and see what type of analysis and solutions were you so you are the one who has no idea what he is talking about. you don't make a marketing campaign with the intention of blindly creating buzz. ususally you do an analysis that involves looking at the marketplace for the product, in this case a smart phone. see what the customers in that segment want in a smartphone, in this apps and functionality. then you market to potential users, in this case business and personal users. where in the world does the current pre marketing campaing address this. all the current campaign does is create a buzz about creepy ads that somewhat feature the pre and not so much even the features of it. a sound campaign would create a unique aura about the phone by showcase its comparitive advantages over other products (implicitly or explicitly), feature the product or services it has to offer, and finally have that "something" that draws in its potential customer base. it just so happens that apple has done this exact thing perfectly and is therefore the case study/emperical evidence we are judging by. so dont call any of us out for not having a business sense. i would say you clearly have no idea what your talking about. the commercials are only making the pre show up on tv. not generating positive buzz about why the phone is a must have and can't live without. so next time you jump out at us we might not all be marketing experts or in the business community, but we do know what a good ad campaign is when we see it.

yes while its nice that 300 some people find this to be pleasing and somewhat effective i dont think this is what palm was going for. they probably wanted 300 some people to find this product essential and very effective in the majority.

If Apple has done this perfectly, why aren't you an iPhone user? And yes, I have an MBA and I definitly know what I am talking about.

i like the pre better because of what i have read on line since jan 2009 not based on marketing. i dont succumb to the marketing for this type of product line. probably if it was something else i would. but my electronics i take more seriously.

and just cause the marketing is great (perfect is exaggerated) doesnt mean it will win over everyone. dude again your losing the essence of marketing...research data to pick up what the majority of users prefer/want. so that is why not everyone would fall prey to marketing.

Thank you very much, you actually proved my point. Since you consider yourself a savvy tech you did not rely on these adds to form your decision. What most of us (Tech people) forget that the average person does not even know what senergy or multitasking is, in fact, they may even get turned off if Palm tried to push these kind of features because people would think it is another complicated device. Don't forget that these adds do not target techy people but your average Joe. By making these adds a bit different they are actually catching people's attentions and that leads to rising interest and ventually more sales.

My wife hates touchscreen phones, she would not even consider any phone like that until she saw the adds, she thought they were cool. Guess what, she is a proud Pre owner now.

Well, I am sorry for the misspellings but I am not an American like most of you all, I have been in the country for few years and my English is not as good as you who were born here.

I'd say the Apple ads have done a pretty darn good job at explaining the features and benefits of the iPhone in a way that can be applied in practical manner to it's target market's lives. The Pre ads are just "meh".

Although it might be a challenge to make an ad that doesn't make people think it's an iPhone knockoff.

Intro:
Iphone next to Palm Pre

:voice:
Want to save 50 dollars a month on your cell phone bill?
:Switch to palm pre shot, displays "Simply Everything: 99.99:
:Switch to iPhone shot, displays 149.98:

:voice:
WE have the ONLY app for that.
The new palm Pre from sprint, 99.99 a month, all you can talk, text, watch, email, download. Its the buffet phone.

I just dont understand why its so farking hard for marketing types to do this.

Rdaex,

First off, this isn't a Sprint ad, it is Palm. Second, it would show off the plan, not the phone. They need to personalize the phone not make it look like "Hey we have a cheaper I-Phone", now that would be a stupid ad. I do agree these ads suck, they need to show off the phone in longer ads and completely ignore the Apple ads and phone.
