New Pre ad: I'm Crazy and my Pre Knows it 70

Uh... yeah. At least you’re sort of acknowledging the esoteric (which is to say, "Creepy") nature of your own advertisements. But yes, you are crazy. In the meantime, I’m going to get started unlocking webOS’s hidden telepathy APIs. I’m thinking I’ll be able to make up for the weak vibrator in the Pre with nonobtrustive telepathic notifications.

bad, worse, worst, palm pre advertisement

wow guys, i love seeing the brand and the device promoted, but this is getting a bit ridiculous

Well at least it is doing what all ads want.. its making people remember and talk about it. So the word of the Pre is getting out there just in a strange way.

These are just gonna keep getting creepier and creepier until she has a knife and stabs us through the TV.

As I commented when the excellent Sprint "Dunkin Donuts in space" ad ran, "The Sprint ads make me want to say, 'Hey, I've got one of those!' The Palm ads make me want to never buy that product." Who wants to buy the phone the crazy creepy girl is selling?

I can (somewhat) understand what the ads are attempting to do - market to women in a soft fashion - but when the biggest selling points of the Pre are all hardware firepower-related (it certainly ain't the variety of cool apps), these look like electronic bath oil adverts.

I TOLD you my post wasn't off-topic...

(Link to article on DARPA, "Pre-speech" and telepathy in post.) ;-)

I have to agree completely with everyone here...please try something else, Palm! This ad campaign is creepy and ridiculous! The commercials from Sprint are 100X better than this, and you guys have nothing else to promote other than this phone right now...do something different!

Apple's successful ad campaign has the commercial doing the selling and letting the salespeople answer any questions that require detail.

Palm is seriously mucking this up. Stop it!!!

Since this is a Pre site, please remember that those of us visiting via the Pre can't see the YouTube ads. So, if you wouldn't mind, please start including a YouTube link under the "invisible" videos... Assuming we could use that to view the video (I'm still new).

Thanks.

I can view the youtube video fine from my Pre. Click on the YouTube video link. Plays fine.

Was that link there when I posted my suggestion? I and others never saw it.

Either way, thanks for the heads-up.

Just saw the thread in the forums. I think that generated the link addition to the post.

I don't know why they are so creepy, but I would bet the ads are vague because the software is still unfinished. As things mature, the ads may become more specific. Who knows? Maybe they are waiting for the rumored big update with video rcording?

Are these ads trying to sell iPhones covertly, or is Palm trying to stereotype its users before Apple can have a chance

I don't know what you guys are talking about. This mrketing effort is vry good. You find it creepy because you know about the phone, you own one. This is not targeted at you, it is targeting people who know nothing about the Pre, these adds are so memorable that they would make people think and remember the Pre.

and after the ad they still don't know anything about the pre

That's what the internet is for....... Also, I'm all with not showing the features sometimes, especially in the begining, that way people start wondering what this phone is all about and they would start researching it. If they show a feature and it happens to be a feature I don't care about I may never be interested in knowing more about this new phone.

Why is she naked?!

Anybody want to start a new thread giving Palm creative ideas on a new marketing campaign.

Here is mine: Imagine some catchy music that starts out softer. The screen is focused on a Pre with a card view picture of the very first palm device. The year of the device is above written above it, and the device is operating showing different screenshots (e.g. old-school view of home screen to calendar view etc.). Then slide the card over with the next generation of palm devices (same thing with different screenshots of the OS) . . . the music getting louder more edgier . . . sliding to the next card becoming faster with the next devices (e.g. the treos), then the Centro, the Pro . . . . then get to the Pre...zoom in/expand the card to full screen on Pre - then zoom into full screen on TV....music explodes . . . dives into the Pre with a hyper-speed type video of all the cool features operating on the phone.

The thought is to let everyone know that Palm has been around forever and that they have now perfected their craftsmanship and technology into the ultimate device. Moreover, Palm would be advertising the Centro, Pro ect. at the same time (more money for more software updates;-).

OK so maybe I am a "Ra"-tard - BUT it's better than the creepy girl!

I already started a thread, asking people how they think the Pre should be advertised. I'd link you but I ain't that fast/good on the Pre, yet.

Let's all take a step back and remember that the same Knuckleheaded McSpazatrons that changed the name from Palm to Pa1mOne then back to Palm were at the helm when these ads were approved. They are the same uninspired dopes who built the TX and LifeDrive and FAILED to think about putting a phone inside. Oh, but they wanted to produce the Foleo: ouch! They are also the dorks who came "this close" to putting a touch screen on the Pre, until Rubentein ran in and put a stop to it.

It has been clear for years that the guys at the top at Palm just didn't "get it" on some very basic, consumer-pleasing issues: they seem woefully out of touch at times. We should be happy that before the prior CEO left, he didn't green light an ad campaign featuring Lindsey Lohan, Brtitney Spears and Mischa Barton all discussing the Pre's stability... from rehab, of course.

Palm needs to re-think these creepy ads. First off, they need to show more of the phone, and less of the creepy-chick. Sprint wins on their "Now" commercials. They have a unique way of showing different functions of the phone like the 3D cards the guy was flipping through. Apple shows nothing but the iPhone and it's functions on every commercial and are very effective.

Palm's commercial, though visually beautiful (except the creepiness), doesn't show the Pre until the very end. This "crazy" one doesn't even show a flattering part of the WebOS when it finally gets to the phone. It is an epic-fail in my book. Also, they need to start marketing the phone to guys as well. I've heard many comments from people at my school that think the Pre is a "Chick Phone" because of these commercials. The Pre is a great phone! Palm is screwing up the PR!

"When I am feeling particularly on edge, I shake my Palm Pre and it locates the closest psychiatric facility. Bing, bing, bing."

or

"Palm Pre- the phone for emotionally unstable pasty-white-skinned, disconnected (but hot in a way) nuts".

or.....

Haha! Yes! I think that would churn up more sales than the current ones! Keep the same setting, but publicly recognize the mental challenges the poor gal is going through. At least she seems happy. :o)

Sorry, I think these commercials are great! The gal is hot and the message is clear about the Pre being something different and special...
When I first saw the commercial, I wasn't aware that it was a Pre add....but I was drawn to the surreal nature of it..a welcome change from all the other BS in commercials..then I was pleased to see that it was for the Pre.

...and I'm a senior,, go figure.

Wow you guys are funny im lol!!...When I got the pre I never imagined it would provide weeks and months of quality entertainment!!

ok...now she's just freaking me out. They reaaaaaaly need to stop these commercials.

I love your sarcasm and totally agree... at least I hope it is sarcasm else I disagree :(

The commercial is just fine. It is different and soft and very PERSONAL, with a little bit of light humor.

"Does your phone know you're crazy? Of course I do, it's mine."

... and if you are "creeped" out by it, jeezus go get a life. Nothing is creepy about it, get off the band-wagon. If you don't like it because it isn't marketing to YOU, then whatever, but realize that YOU are not ALWAYS the target audience and there are many different personalities and tastes in the world.

Beautiful woman, talking briefly about how she FEELS about the phone in HER DAY TO DAY life. That is what these ads are doing.

Get over yourselves people and stop whining.

No, what's really, really creepy is that all of this-the complaining, the unwavering praise, the commercial critiques, all of it, is starting to seem very Apple-like.

Where am I?

clap clap clap, thank you. i call these people sissy fanboys/girls.

From what I've seen, girls hate it too, and my girlfriend hates it and loves her Pre :)

As for it having some Female influences in the deisgn: My girlfriend and I both got our pre's at the same time and while I was on my pre checking out all the applications and trying to see how quickly I could root the device the first thing my girlfriend noticed was that there was a mirror on the back when you flipped open the keyboard to use for makeup... That kinda sent that message home to me..

Please someone STOP this compaign.. It is bad, Creepy, and just pointless..
