New Sprint Commercial Features Facebook, Palm Pre 21

by Jason Robitaille Mon, 08 Jun 2009 1:09 pm EDT

Remember that gigantic Facebook set we saw way back in May at the Warner Bros. film studios? Sure you do.  Well, it's finally made it's worldwide debut as a Sprint commercial for the Palm Pre. Not quite the same style as their earlier Now Network commercials, but still quite good, with more Palm Pre focus, so we can't argue about it too much. And while this video, with it's large focus on Facebook, could just be referencing the all-encompassing idea of synergy, it also gives hope of a dedicated Facebook application, which many of us would love. The ad has already made its television debut, appearing during Fox's Sunday Night "Animation Domination" segment during an episode of The Simpsons.

Oh, and in case you were wondering (like I was), the song is Doorway by IO Echo.  Kudoos Sprint, another great commercial!

Thanks for the tip Mahootzki and Jerry!

i was expecting more. not bad, but not really good either.

They can't do everything in every commercial - these are tactical strikes on specific targeted groups...

The style while a little different from their other Now Network spots still fits in the overall theme... like their Now page here:

"Now there's a phone that truly lives in real time."

I like the ad and I love my Pre, the only phone that lives in real time.

The first time I saw this ad was on Saturday night on "Pushing Daisies" (best written show on TV). I noticed the big 3D Facebook mockup and something went off in my head "I've seen this somewhere before". Sure enough, the Pre pops up at the end. Ho hum.

While there isn't a "dedicated" facebook app, the Pre-loaded Facebook bookmark in the webbrowser is pretty nice - if you can't do something there - just log into the actual FB page via the full web browser.

It doesn't show you comments, give you the option to "Like" something, and numerous other things. Until they update it and give it full functionality, I'm going to continue to use the full web site.

Yeah, the Treo version was/is really rudimentary. Even the iPod version has some useful functions. Frustrating to only be able to see something but not be able to communicate directly or see what's being referenced in a post.

I agree, I never used the Facebook for Palm on my Centro, always used mobile site via Opera.

Great ad! Wish it was a little longer though.

My pre-existing (hehe) Facebook events are not showing up in my Calendar. Google calendar is syncing fine. Do I need to enable anything on the facebook side? Facebook friends were added to my contacts, no problem (except for some failed merges, even when the names matched exactly). I will try creating a new event now that I am synced, but I think my existing ones should show up.

I thought it was a good ad. As far as a facebook app, yes I would love to see one. However, the real facebook site (not x.facebook.com) actually works terrifically. Even the chat works great!

One other thing I noticed with this ad. The color scheme is a little different in some apps - I noticed it in Messaging. Maybe showing things to come?

The commercial also showed up like once per show all Saturday night on the CBS offerings.

It was also played in the NBA finals during the 3rd period I believe.

Not bad, just can't wait until the Facebook App actually is offered on the Pre.

If you wanna be hardcore fire up your Amazon app right now and buy the song. Let's show these nice musicians some Pre love! (I'm downloading this as I type...because I can! And because I'm on wi-fi right now...)

The irony is there isnt a Facebook app. In fact I am very disappointed with the FB web link...lacks so much of what I can do on my itouch FB app.
