New WebOS SDK Emulator Screenshots 30
PreThinking got some eye candy shots of Palm's WebOS in action via an anonymous source.
There are plenty of pics in PreThinking's gallery, but check out the two above. The call screen looks pretty sweet, huh? I see those colors from nature gracing the palette and looking good on the Pre. Looks like the battery is charging in the screenshot and the call coverage looks to be great.
In the next screenshot, there is a pop-up status for the battery, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Nice to still be able to see the launcher below and the cards in the background.
All the screenshots look great and just keep me drooling for the Pre. Everything looks very clean and just pops, especially the Launcher screen. Go check out the entrire gallery of screenshots at PreThinking.

Funny, I was just looking at Sun's VirtualBox the other day. Very interesting. http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/index.jsp
The Pr? really does look clean. But we knew this already. Still, it's nice to see shots of the emulator.
Sorry! Just woke up and posted the article and was excited to see the pics. Mind was still fuzzy. Okay?????
No worries Jennifer. I think "Anonymous" may be the one in the wrong here base on what I've read in the WebOS book.
Seriously?
Connecting the device to your workstation does not mean you have to use the device itself to write your code.
Oh, I don't know. The webOS book states "You'll also use the emulator for testing your applications after connecting any Palm webOS device to your system using a USB cable."
So it is very possible that it is showing actual battery charge and an actual call.
I don't think you "have to". I think it's an option. But I really don't know. I could be incorrectly interpreting what I've read. It's why I've used words like "may" and "possibly" in my posts on this topic.
If Palm would grant me access for at least one of my apps, I'd find out for sure. :-) Oh well, I wait.
Why not? If you dial 555-5555 right now on your phone, it connects to a recording saying wrong number or a busy tone or whatever, right? But it will still show connected.
Guys, there are more than one type of emulator. Since I haven't actually seen the one for the Pr?, I can't speak as to exactly what type it is. So the next best thing is to go on the information that Palm has released. In chapter 2 of the WebOS book, they touch on how one would test applications. "One way" is to connect the device to your computer via USB.
Yes, there are emulators that simply mimic the function of the emulated device. There are also emulators that are more like remote desktops. For example, the emulator I have for my TomTom has a mode that requires the TomTom be connected.
My understanding is that Sun's VirtualBox still requires that you have an image of the environment that you intend to emulate. I don't know if Palm provides this image as part of the SDK or if the emulator simply uses the plugged in device as the image to emulate.
Again, I don't have access to the SDK yet so all I have to go on is what I've read about the technologies involved.
Anyone else think it's funny that the Google Maps shows Cupertino? Haha
I know Sunnyvale (where Palm is located) is just up the road, on the other side of 280, but that's definitely Cupertino where Apple is located... ;)
