  HP

Palm has updated their official blog with the news and they seem awfully happy:

In case you didn't hear, we just announced a merger with a little shop down the street called HP. That little shop happens to be the world’s largest technology company, and certainly one of the most revered companies in all of tech-land. Can you say "webOS acceleration"? We’re pretty excited, and pleased we surprised the world again.

Yeah, we're surprised. We can also say "webOS acceleration." In fact, we sort of like saying it.

More to come.

yeeee haaaaaa

wow that's all I got for right now

New tag line for Pre+ commercials:

Dude, I'm getting a Palm!

that's dell not hp, duh

I'd rather it be HP than RIM.

HTC would have been slick.

Hell, I NEED the new device that is going to come from this. When, when when?

I love HP products! Not all, but most of them! Hopefully they will be the 'missing' link to Palm's WebOS platform!! They could help them bring in good hardware!! GOOD LUCK PALM!!

But I must confess here... I got really tired of my sad trumbone... and got the HTC Hero... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything I was expecting in the Palm Pre and MORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe in the future if Palm is still around and they have succeeded in hardware and fixed bugs in WebOS will I considered them again.

Tah-tah Palm!!!

awesome!!!!

HP Slate 2 With webOS!

Is it just me, or is anyone else get Nerdgasms thinking about such a Holiy Grail in Mobile Tablet computing?!

+1

Some thoughts:

HP's customer service is exteremely highly rated for all o fthier products.

HP's IPAQ product was a higher end Treo.. and the build quaility was superb, with much bigger touch screens. It was aimed at enterprise markets and did very well, until the recent shift to capacitive screen phones.. but here is the key:

HP must have a boatload of patents as well, and when combined with PALM's 1600 patents, will be able to enter the smartphone market with almost near inpunity from Apple and MS.

I can see the WebOS OS and UI on so many of their current device, as well as potentially new ones, like an slate computer; and NO royalties paid out.

Incredbily good partnership.

I'd totally buy an hp tablet with webos on it, specially since I learning javascript I make it do what I want!

speechless!! This is just awesome news!! Long live the Pre-paq and the pre-blet!!

More importantly, the focus is on webOS and not on the patents.
I didn't want HTC to acquire Palm, since they would most probably have dumped the webOS.

I'm sure Ruby had something to do with HTC not being able to bag 'em. And yeah, at least now webOS devices will be available globally.

And the tablet.

"Hey iPad! why're you hiding behind the sofa? You still have some days left."

As a (relatively) small company Palm was a gnat in the ears of the competition. With HP backing the gnat just became a sharp taloned eagle.

I am just about to buy HPs new touchscreen tablet pc (I've used their old ones for years) and am SO EXCITED to see them go with Palm. YES!

this is pretty big...Palm is now able to compete with Apple and Google across the board. I think that was one of the biggest thing that plagued webOS. Now that Palm & Hp is scaling webOS in different form factors, it's creates more...and BIGGER opts for webOS to get face time, and show why Palm truly has a word class OS.

2nd I gotta say I'm pretty damn proud of Palm. I'm a launch day user and it feels as if I've seen this OS grow up before my eyes. Seeing all that Palm has done is very admirable and I know the move with HP will pay off. Congrats HP as well as Palm, can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

You're spot on about competing w/ Apple and Google (and RIM). Palm was the smart, nerdy kid that was getting bullied about. HP was the "protection" that Palm needed.

BRILLIANT!!!!!
