O2 Germany to hold Premier Parties 23
If you recall, Sprint and Palm were going to hold launch parties back in June to celebrate the launch of the Pre. It looks like O2 in Germany, the exclusive carrier for the Pre, will be following suit. O2 began sending out the above email today, spelling out dates, times and places of the GSM carriers plans. In case your German is rusty, here's the nitty gritty, from pretogether.de:
There will be big Pre parties in six O2 stores in Germany with music, buffets, and "many more surprises". The first 50 people who will buy a pre will get a free Touchstone from O2.
The parties will be on October 12th in the following cities: Berlin, Munich, Hannover, Dortmund, Köln, and Frankfurt.

Does that say Palm Touchstone gratis?? We didn't get a free Touchstone!!
i will try to attend the party in cologne... they send out emails who is allowed to attend and who isn't.
i've been o2 customer for more than six years now. hopefully i'll get my pre that day :>
there isn't much of commercials in Germany so far about the pre, so the chances may be good to be invited.
time will tell.
by the way the german pre will have another firmware than the U.S. Version.

So the European and North American Pres will receive different, customized firmwares. I hope the EU 1.2x will already be on 'Pixi-level'.

I have PREoredered my Pre ;) *sorry.. a few days ago at the o2 hotline, wandering if they are actually selling the Pre at the party or just taking orders for the Pre there.
Does anybody know if they actually sold the Pre at the launch parties in the US?
I'm not going to attend the party, although Frankfurt is quite near. Driving trough Frankfurt is such a pain and I'm not even sure that I want the Pre, although I'm pretty excited about it.
I'm using an O2 XDA Star atm, which is a HTC touc dual. It somehow resembles the pre from the looks, it does tethering, offline outlook sync and the battery lasts 3 to 4 days. The slider even has a slight oreo-effect ;). I'd basically be paying 481

Yes.. i am really pissed at thei price of the touchstone. I was in the US a few 2 month ago but didnt thought of buying the touchstone ....
I'm going to attend the party in hannover, already got an approval. As being said on ppc-welt, there will only be 50 touchstones in whole germany for customers in the stores, and NOT in every single store. I hope i will still get one.
@Beatmaster can you preorder the phones and be sure to get a touchstone?!
The first 50 online orders starting Oct. 13th 9h will be lucky ones.
I read that as well and was surprised that the mail suggests otherwise. We'll see :)
@neos200: no i can not be sure. But i want the phone as early as possible, so i was hoping, preordering 2 weeks ahead should get me a pre as soon as possible.
@all: Still .. question remains, .. do they sell the actual hardware on the opening party, or just taking the orders ?

I simply can't believe thei don't have an event in Hamburg (3rd largest city in Germany)!
Also quite bad, if you want to renew your contract online, you are out of luck for a touchstone kit. (on my contract is so old that they want to get rid of it...)
Anyhow. I pre-ordered* in my local store (they couldn't tell me what I will have to pay for it with contract renewal).

Hmmm. Got this mail today as well and signed on immediately. Hopefully there's still place left in Dortmund :D
The first 50 who buy the phone online on the 13th octobre (beginning at 9 a.m.) will get a free touchstone as well.
@all those complaining about the price of the touchstone:
Here in germany every price is including VAT (20%). Still it is more expensive than in the US. Say hello to rip-off-europe where nearly everything is more expensive than in the US :-/

I already have an approval for the party in cologne and follow the discussions over at the german forum www.nexave.de . In this forum a guy who is working at the launch team of o2 gives some hints and even an employee of a store is an active member so the sources are quite good.
@beastmaster: There will be devices for sale at the launch parties.
@neos200: There will be 50 Touchstones at each launch party and additional 50 Touchstones for the first online orders.
@Ka-Efka: If you are a business customer you could go to the Palm Pre Night in Hamburg on 9th of October: http://www.palm-pre-night.de/informieren.html . Wether o2 sells devices there.

Besides, o2 Germany is quite taking good care to provide an exclusive environment for the Pre. A little low-profile, but that is not necessarily bad. Creates a slightly 'exclusive aura' around it. I like their concept so far.
May be I also have a look over at nexave. I quit following the site about a year ago. The more and more negative attitude there was just not worth my time. Would be great if this has changed.
