O2 Germany Pre Plus, Pixi Plus get priced 40
If you hadn't heard, the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are coming to O2 Germany and Vodafone on April 28th. As is (distressingly) becoming the norm, pricing wasn't officially announced when the phones were officially announced.
We've got the prices for O2 now, anyway. They come courtesy of O2, and along with golem.de, you might say that Germans will be paying a bit of a premium over their French neighbors: 389 Euro for the Pixi Plus, 509 for the Pre Plus. Of course, you can also opt to purchase the phones at just 29 Euro to start and pay out the rest over time. It also helps that since this is O2 Germany, these phones are straight-up unlocked.
Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

let the importing begin!
Are they crazy???
In France prices are 429
I don't believe SFR will sell you an unlocked (before official-by-law 6 months old unlocking) phone with no-plan (they require at least pre-paid).
Yes, this could be the reason.
They need to start selling products in India and Australia. I know China is coming soon. Are they sold in Brazil?
I'm happy for the French and German people to be able to get their hands on the Pre+ very soon, but what about AT&T officially announcing a release date? I swear, I must check this site about 100 times a day hoping to see that information. Palm/AT&T you're killing me ;o)
Buying a Pre Plus unlocked is very tempting, but if I understand the rules, it would not be possible to access the App catalog without activating a data plan, right?
I need a device without a data plan (just voice) with access to Apps. I live in Canada. Is Palm a no-go for me?
I feel forced to buy an iPhone when the next one comes out... Can't stand my old TX anymore.
If anybody feels like enlighting me, have a go!
(My very first post of PreCentral BTW. But a lurker since the very beginning.)
no you dont need an o2 germany contract. still the issue is a little foggy but i bought it from o2, put in a german eplus sim, activated it without any issues and had app catalog just as expected being in germany. strange: the mobile hotspot app (featured by o2) at first it was not there for me, after a couple of days it was. there has to be some logic about the current network or sim or the one you were in at "firstrun" time. but: an o2-germany contact is not the magic and only thing that gets you into an app catalog.
The problem is that I do not want any contract, other than voice, possibly. I have wifi everywhere around town, since I live in a metropolitain area. A data plan in Canada is an expensive liability.
So if I buy an unlocked Pre Plus from Germany, only use pay as you go voice plans, will I have access to the app catalog? That is my big issue.
If that isn't the case, I will consider myself forced to buy an iPhone HD this summer. I know many people with an iPhone and no data plan who are using all the apps.
I hate the closed Apple ecosystem, so this isn't an easy decision for me. But I have no choice at this point. I am feeling like a old geezer walking around with my TX.
so just buy a phone off ebay with Bell. And don't get a data plan. You can turn off data on the phone so it only works on wifi. I've thought about going just voice cause I use maybe 50meg a month for emails and that's junk mail normally. Lol.
I know I can do that, but I've heard that you won't be able to access the App catalog if you do that.
If I can buy a Bell device without contract, use it with pay as you go, and still have access to the app catalog, then I won't need to get an iPhone I guess.
Sorry, I am a newbie with smartphones. Still using my old TX after all these years...
You can, if the Bell device previously has been activated on Bell, not officially though, you'd have to buy a used device and do an ESN swap online yourself.
Thing is you'd have to go through MetaDoctor to activate the phone, since it requires an EV-DO data connection to get past the Palm Profile stage.
I'm not 100% sure, but my understanding is that you only need to activate the phone with any O2 SIM card (a friend that lend his for a few minutes) after that you can access the apps catalog through WiFi.
When I'm roaming I turn data off and I'm still able to access the application for other countries using Wifi.
I think that there is another option, "meta doctoring" the phone that will avoid the activation step.
Cheers
JD
you need nothing from o2 to activate the phone, no data plan and no contract.
as you can see here with the pre (not plus)

TK 421: If it's of any consolation to you -- you're not alone. I'm yet another T|X-toting Canuck in a similar situation. For what it's worth, I plan to buy the Pre+ from AT&T soon -- as long as the unlock solution ( http://www.precentral.net/real-gsm-palm-pre-sim-unlock-live ) works for AT&T phones.
The catch: I happen to have an AT&T pay-as-you-go # with a SIM card. I plan to purchase & activate my phone State-side before unlocking & throwing in my Rogers SIM. According to AT&T, they will sell me the phone outright when it's in-stock (will cost $500.00+, I'm guessing).
Palm: if you guys are listening: you guys *really* need to sell unlocked GSM 'carrier-free activation' phones. I'm certain there are tons of potential customers around the world (ie: including myself & TK 421) out there who aren't enjoying WebOS & would like to, given the option.
I, along with so many others have a pent-up demand for GSM unlocked Pre's. I've been waiting since launch to get my hands on an Pre, but ohh no, stupid Palm. I tell you, the management at Palm gotta be the stupidest of all the phone companies.
No wonder they are dying - ridiculous! There's no wonder Nokia is the largest phone manufacturer in the world. They don't rely (nor do they force their users to sign their lives away with carrier contracts). Get the damn phones out there, market them properly and watch what happens.
The board needs to fire Palm's CE - he doesn't know how to run a phone company, demote him to head of R&D.
Unfortunately for me and you guys, it's in Palm's best interest and possibly written into contracts to stop them from selling an unlocked device, for an amount of time.
If they release an unlocked device themselves, they are effectively competing with the carrier(s), and they need the best carrier relationships they can get at the moment. It sucks, really does and its got Palm (and us) in a corner.
In Australia, carriers don't have quite as much control over devices (legislation?) and I love that, don't know how the States ended up how it did. And well, Palm can't afford to come to Australia atm, so be thankful!
Any news as to when the Pre plus will be coming to the UK yet as I would love to upgrade my pre!
Nice to see, but I think these are way overpriced. if Palm want to get a foothold in Europe to try and save their skin, prices like these for (essentially) year old phones isn't going to cut it.
Someone walks into an O2 store and sees a Pre Plus sitting beside an Xperia X10. What are they going to choose? They are the same price. Madness. You can only charge premium prices for a premium product. 3.1" screen with a plastic screen and a 500Mhz processor isn't premium, 4" glass screen with a 1Ghz Snapdragon Processor, 8.1 MP camera and swappable storage is. no matter how good the OS. (It is the best OS, but hardware counts too.)
New device Palm, quick-smart.
+1
New device? inevitably.
Quick-smart? Not going to happen sadly. Not with AT&T still not launched. Have to be announced say 3mths at least after that I reckon.
Haha..good joke o2...
Now seriously, who will ever buy palm pixi! they soald palm pre for 369 and they want 389 for pixi... and palm pre plus costs 509 - same as iphone and more then htc desire.
i am going to do so...whats so funny about it?
Way, way, waaaay too expensive! Are they crazy? That's over $680 for the Pre Plus! I guess this is O2's fault, but WHO will buy a Pre Plus for 509 Euros, if even the brand new and far superior (hardware) HTC Desire only costs about 440 Euros.
Crazy, I don't get it.. I thought Palm needs to sell!
+1
WORD!
Exactly! I think I'm losing faith quickly in Palm's management. Then again, I think that has already happened. I say, Palm's CEO should be fired - plain and simple. These bozoes don't know squat about running a phone company.
Palm, you have dropped the ball here - or allowed O2 to. These phones had to be super cheap to widen the user base, then you can charge for a follow up premium product that matches the current hardware.
This is like charging full price for the iPhone 3G when the 3GS is the same price. Crazy.

apologies for the triple post.
AT&T is waiting for the iphone 4g, so they can release the palm pre plus at the same time. :(
German keyboard?
the first pre was sold for 480
"they only need a new manager for marketing^^"
and one for product development!
When O2 UK sell Palm Pre Plus? And someone can share or tell me where I can find Palm Pre Plus wallpaper from picture above?
Nice 2 know: Pre+ is exclusive to the online shop of O2 Germany. They still have the original Pre in the shops.
Until yesterday they didn't even have the Pre+ on their preview page. My guess is, they want to push original Pre sales a bit before launching in the shops. If you want a webOS device, that would be your best deal atm. It's even cheaper than the Pixi+
The Vodafone pricing might be interesting. Also if Vodafones Pre+ will be unlocked.
On that age of industry, only wealthy and upper social links of londonclass people could afford such expensive jewelries. While the lower class couldn
I don't understand why the regular Pre costs less than 400
if anyone has the wallpapers to these devices, please PM me them!
