October's "sports issue" of Pivot lands in November, pretends that nothing happened 48
For all of October we sat and wondered, "When, oh when, will the October sports issue of HP Pivot be released?" Surprisingly, the answer to that query is "November." That's right folks, the Sports Issue of Pivot has been released to the confused and ambivalent masses and unsurprisngly it covers a good number of TouchPad apps that can be tangentally related to sports. After running out of sports apps in the first 30 pages, Pivot turns its attention to general TouchPad apps, including Glimpse, FlightPredictor HD, BeamOut HD, and Pennant (back to sports!). But what we really like is their profile of prolific webOS homebrew developer and now TouchPad App Catalog success story Jason Robitaille (pg 39). There's no mention of the month delay, even in the opening hail, which is a little disappointing. Sometimes you need to own up and address the issues, but it seems that this issue by-and-large is exactly how it was at the beginning of October (we're told it was ready as early as the third of the month).
Update: The @webOSPivot Twitter account notes that the international version for October will be out in "the next few days."

And next month will be:
Start warming up-
The Christmas issue is coming soon.
Only to land in March.
GOOD NEWS! The international version of the HP Pivot Sport Issue for November 2001 is now out just this minute. I enjoy reading it now. There are FREE apps being given away, too. I downloaded the HP CARE PACK app, but sadly upon being launched, it says: "We're sorry. You are no longer eligible to purchase an HP Care Pack for this device. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact HP WebOS customer service." What gives?
I am looking at pivot right now, 9:39 am, and it still shows "coming soon". tried a reboot and no change.
:( Me too
Same for me.
it is probably still at the customs in Sydney, being underestimated on what took it so long :-)
Next issue to feature spooky ghosts and goblins and other Halloween apps.
Wow, cool super slo-mo HD video on Page 1.
Wow that is neat and pretty painful to watch in slow motion. Shame humans can't slow down time like that...would very useful. Sorli...
Reboot worked for me, but then Pivot has lost it glamour to me and HP needs to work on fixing other problems (start with the board that axed webOS). Sorli...
What, is this not October. Have we gotten so used to getting things on time from HP that we have to cry when it is just a month late. Ungrateful. Ungrateful.
I can't believe the lot of you being so uppity as to expect this wonderful issue of pivot to be here when they said it would.
Thank you HP and everyone else involved for getting this issue out to us on a "dead OS." I really do love my TP, and my Pre minus. If December comes a little late, we should be ok with it. We are still getting it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Sorry "sorli" didn't mean for it to be a reply, meant to just put a post in.
I'm just looking at the picture above, either they're really tall or they forgot to put up a net.
apparently white chicks CAN jump!
I love the title of this story. I've owned a Pre for 2.5 years, and I don't have to "pretend" NOTHING HAPPENED.
I'm seeing Jason Robitaille on page 37, not 39.
@MrJspeed I haven't tried yet on my machine but you could well be a non-US user? If so then you might not be getting the 'Kindle' pages, as the Kindle app is *still* not available in all territories (e.g. UK) (though it certainly was available in places over the interwebs) and so the relevant pages are removed before delivery.
Anyone got any idea whether Amazon might release internationally?
The Amazon Kindle is already available internationally. You just install the Kindle App following the steps shown in this link:
http://askowen.info/2011/09/how-do-i-install-the-kindle-app-on-my-hp-tou...
Or you can go a slightly more complex route via Preware with Impostah as I've documented on my TouchPad blog:
http://rklpad.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-become-us-touchpad-user-and.html
I'm off to fake being a US user again because Pivot *still* hasn't had a UK app store release...grrr...
No mention about the next pivot, is this the last one?
piv·ot/ˈpivət/
Verb: Turn on or as if on a pivot.
Noun: The central point, pin, or shaft on which a mechanism turns or oscillates.
Synonyms: verb. rotate - revolve - wheel - whirl - spin - turn
noun. axis - centre - center - axle
I'd say the definition of the word pivot sums up this whole WebOS and Pivot magazine debacle. For WebOS, this is this central point between the dying and being dead. And the magazine, well, they sure rotated, revolved, wheeled and whirled us!
So dizzy right now my Verizon Pre+ is looking like a Pre3!
and clearly webOS customers have received the shaft.
Also don't see the FREE code for the sports app... Probably because it was found before this issue was released and used up so quick again!
I sent an email to WebOSPivot@hp.com yesterday afternoon to complain about the missing October issue.... wondering if this was the trigger??? :-)
Yes, that was it! THANK YOU. webOS nation owes you a debt of gratitude!
lols
This is just another vendor who is getting paid to finish out whatever contract they had - just like the hardware vendors.
I Just get a blank page when on the "Featured" tab. The other tabs work fine. Jut no pivot. And, I am in the US.
I had that in September. If I swiped to do a page change I could get to some of the pages. Also, some of the pages only showed in landscape while others only showed in portrait.
That seems to be the case. I only get 2 pages in the middle. Did it ever itself?
that's supposed to say "fix itself".
I assume the reason for the delay was the girls ball: in the October "issue" they had a blue ball in their hands... and now they are playing with a yellow ball! Someone lost the ball and they had to buy a new ball for the picture...
Perhaps someone thought blue balls were in bad taste.
is there really nothing else to write about?
Maybe a review can be done on yet another unreleased product instead? Maybe the rumored C40 can be revisited? Anything for content...right?

The Pivot magazines are great. But those cover photos are just....creepy. What's up with that?
Well? Not for us Germans - again. That means we won't get it before December 1st.
Not that I really care that much. Don't get me wrong, here. It's neat and all but to me it would make much more sense to push out webOS 3.1 instead of pushing money into Pivot.
There's nothing in there, that I couldn't get on precentral. Except the not even warm feeling of having something "the others" do not have.
still hasn't shown up yet for me, and I restarted the thing.
my still shows the Aug pivot. Is it country specific?
these blank pages are driving me nuts!
Did HP ever actually call it the "October" Sports issue?
I wanna
This is just plain embarassing.
For some odd reason, I can't get the Pivot. After I restarted my TouchPad 32, all I get on the on the Featured Tab is a blank white screen. Anyone know how to resolve this?
Nope. Still looking at the June issue. Which, by the way, looks much scarier then the two girls on the september issue that people complained about. Being European doesn't get you pivot easily. But my Pre3 makes up for that ;-)
I hope the Sports Issue international version will be out in THIS WEEK!
