OnSale honoring cancelled orders with a new batch of TouchPads 72

by Tim Stiffler-Dean Wed, 21 Sep 2011 9:16 pm EDT

On August 21st, just a few days after HP began delivering HP TouchPads at those epic firesale prices, some major retailers had to confess to a major screw-up that resulted in more than a little bit of confusion. OnSale, as well as other retailers, ran out of TouchPad inventory very quickly in that first weekend and were unable to meet the demand of potential TouchPad buyers. Many orders that were already placed by those masses had to be cancelled due to a lack of inventory. The result: thousands of upset customers were asked to look elsewhere for the webOS tablet, which was a feat not easily accomplished.

Starting today, OnSale has made a public effort to rectify some of the problems with those very same customers by putting them first in line to order a 32GB TouchPad as soon as HP makes them available. For anyone who placed an order for a TouchPad on August 21st through OnSale's system, you can visit the link below to fill out a very small form that will leave you waiting in line once more. To make things fair for everyone, OnSale is limiting these new orders to one TouchPad per person, per household with a qualifying Order ID (which you will have received in the cancellation notice from OnSale).

You only have until September 26th to take advantage of the offer, but we imagine that if you've already been waiting this long, you'll be quick to jump on the opportunity to get a cheap TouchPad. OnSale is only able to provide 32GB models for $149, even when the original cancelled order was for the 16GB TouchPad. If you get to the website and it's taking a long time to load, don't panic. You're probably just experiencing the lag that comes from so many people rushing to place their orders.

if only barns & noble would get on this. they cancelled my sunday order of 2 touchpads.

I rather use the app because I don't get video ads and stupid flash ads wasting my battery. Opening the browser and opening a bookmark is more work than hitting a single pandora app button.

I too would like Barns & Noble to do the same thing. They canceled my order as well. Come on B&N.

how about those who purchased through amazon.

btw i totally forgot i still have an open order from cost central.

I ordered from OnSale through Amazon - they cancelled my order and game me my order number. I just used the link provided in the source above, and entered my order number. OnSale just sent me an exclusive link in an e-mail (to only be used once). I clicked on it, and completed my order for a 32GB Touchpad - hopefully they'll fulfill it this time!

I ordered through Amazon. I got my U-number by calling onsale, but when I fill out the form using that, I just get a message saying "the item is no longer available".

ya I tried last night and today and get the same message as you, did you figure anything out? It would have been nice of them to send out an email notifying people, I just randomly found out. What a pain

Too bad my canceled order is from MicroCenter.

That would be something if they honor theirs as well. I don't think they had a lot to begin with.

This is too funny reading all these rumors from people who don't know anything.

I guess amazon customers are SOL??? Ugh I may never get a tp :(

Wrong. If you bought from Onsale on Amazon and still have your order number use it. I just did and I am super pumped.

My canceled Onsale order was through Amazon on the 21st. I put in the order number and it went through fine. Thanks for the heads-up PreCentral!

I got the response saying "This items is no longer available" too. I ordered through amazon too, I might add...hmmm

I ordered via Amazon, and the first time I tried this I got the "item is no longer available" message. I tried a few more times and it seemed to go through, and I got an email from onsale saying my order # had been validated and giving a link to complete my touchpad order. I tried that and nothing happened. Then I tried the link again and got a web page with this message, "The requested action cannot proceed because you either expended your unique Order ID or there is no more stock available." I'm not sure which of those two problems cut me out (since I clicked on the link twice), but if you go through this process and get the validation email, click only once on the link and be patient, maybe it will work for you.

EDIT TO ADD: I tried again just now, Thurs. morning, and the link in the email went through, I completed my order, and I got a confirmation web page that said, "Thank You! Your order has been received and is being reviewed. An email with more details may follow or you may be contacted by our Card Processing Department if necessary." I don't have a lot of confidence I'll get one, but I do have a little hope!

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME...
I've been trying to call Onsale but cant seem to get through. There's seems to be a flaw in both their online ordering and their phone system. It says press 0 for operator but after pressing 0 it say "that function is not recognized" WTF!

UPDATE: Like yours mine too went through on thursday. Since then they've even sent me a shipping status email with Sep 24 2011 as shipping date. The email has a tracking link but it takes me to a "page not found" error.

THIS UPDATE IS COMING FROM MY NEW TOUCHPAD :) yay it came

Amazon order numbers work, but I can't get past the shipping and billing info screen. The continue button just brings me to the top of the page. Also, all of my calls get disconnected (I've tried 10 times).

Argh, I had two orders through Amazon. All receipts gone.

Just completed my re-order. I ordered through Amazon. The website is SLOW, but it finally went through. Are these guaranteed? Can I stand down from my TouchPad watch?

Completed mine as well. Hopefully this works out. Could always use another one. I've made over 3k profit so far reselling these **** devices. Thanks HP..

Cool, how many have you been able to sell if you don't mind me asking?

Not gonna lie - but you're a prick for making all of that cash on reselling these items. There are tons of Devs out there looking for just ONE touchpad - and here you are, scooping up all stock you can find, only to turn it for a quick profit. Shame on you.

While I was in line picking up my TP, most of the people didnt know what they were buying. The operating system, why they were buying other than it was on sale, and quite a few were hoping they could put another OS on it. I was the only one in line who even had a WebOS device. If people are buying them, then chekmate should sell. I wasnt happy about not getting one either, but I will buy one for my wife for 200 or a bit more if I dont get one at this fire sale.

Sounds like the ebay drones were quickest to the punch. :.(

Is anyone else having trouble after pressing Continue? it wont seem to go past that point?

Thank you onSale, I was starting to lose hope of ever getting a fire sale Touchpad!

i'd thank Onsale but its not working!! Cant they do anything right?

Ugh... all I get is "item is no longer available". If the friggin' thing is no longer available, why leave the web page up to allow you to re-order one? More frustration from their 2-bit ordering system.

I can hear their servers cry as my shipping address fails repeatedly.

I was finally able to complete the order process, amazingly. Now all I can do is wait until it gets cancelled again :)

I ordered thru Amazon, also. First try, I got the "no longer available" message. Next few tries (due to the incorrect alphanumeric code) it went thru and I received an email with a unique link. I followed the link, it took a while to load but finally loaded. The "billing info" stage took an even longer time to process. I am now waiting for "choose method of payment" to process...(I'm back) I just now put in my cc info... and w a i t i n g (longest wait so far)...Just now hit "Place order" button. (Drum roll)... I received email confirmation receipt. "Thank you for placing your order with OnSale. Upon completion of processing, you will receive an email confirmation. Please save this message for future reference." And now more of The Waiting Game!

Order went through! Good move Onsale! Thanks Precentral/Tim!

I hope this works but per the notice, they can cancel the offer: We reserve the right in our sole discretion to revoke this offer at any time.
UPDATE: I just spent about 90 minutes trying to get through all the steps and when I got to the page for payment selection there wasn't a button to proceed except to Submit Inquiry or something like that. Clicking that just took me to a log in screen and now I'm getting the rejection notice:
The requested action cannot proceed because you either expended your unique Order ID or there is no more stock available.
Contact customerservice@onsale.com for more information about this issue.
I tried calling the "SPECIAL HP TOUCHPAD LINE 1-877-233-7409" line and was rejected there, too. It just says that they couldn't answer my call because of the high volume and to call back from 7-7pm tomorrow.

I put in my information and got this:

Your Order ID has been verified. Please visit the unique link provided below to complete your HP TouchPad order.
IMPORTANT: This link can only be used once.
LINK (removed for this)

Then was asked to fill in my information, which I did and then it came back with this:
The requested action cannot proceed because you either expended your unique Order ID or there is no more stock available.

Contact customerservice@onsale.com for more information about this issue.

Thank you!

Screwed again by onsale. Going to file a complaint with BBB, because these just seem like more false tactics to get you to their website without any actual product.

I did it and it worked. I think their servers are just getting blasted (took forever). They may still cancel my order, but its not like bad pub is good for them.

after the cc info, i click continue and then i get a page, but dont know if it went through or not.

So much for this working :( . I ordered from Amazon, validated my Amazon order number and I received an email from online about 20 minutes later. They sent me a unique email link that can only be clicked once. I clicked on the link once, entered my credit card information and got an annoying message on the next screen that said "The requested action cannot proceed because you either expended your unique Order ID or there is no more stock available. Contact customerservice@onsale.com for more information about this issue."

I know I have not yet expended my order id because I clicked the link once. So much for taking care of Amazon onsale customers... I emailed customer service just to let them know about the problem I experienced.

Onsale not working again!!!

I am glad I waited till 3 am to make my order when traffic was down. went through smoothly. (FYI make sure to only click the link once or you'll be screwed).

oops! i didnt get time to save my details on amazon as they deleted the entry from my open orders :( (i must say that was shady of them as well)
I ended up paying 230$ for a 16GB. ohh well. Good luck to the others.

EDIT: IF YOU DONT HAVE ONSALE ORDER ID ENTER AMAZON ORDER NUMBER...

lol i just did... got through in minutes! came up to $157.00.

I'll probably sell this one though...

Just placed my "re-order" this morning. Went through quick and already have an email confirmation from onsale! I'll believe it when it is in my hands though....

Edit: My order seems to have gone through now. I take back my original post.

I had already posted this morning that I was getting the "expended your unique Order ID..." message last night after entering my information. Well while I was writing that post I had clicked the email link again. All of a sudden the onSale page opened and there was all the information I had entered last light. I put in my credit card info and I now have an order confirmation. We'll see how it goes, but for the moment I have a TouchPad on order.

So...anybody give up on the idea of a Touchpad and have an order number they'd like to share/sell?

I have an order number that is verified and I now I have the one time only order email link. I'm open to selling it. Make me an offer.

"the item is no longer available". for me.. :(
onsale sucks..lol..apparently their servers suck.

Thanks Precentral. I ordered just now. website was slow but did not encounter any problems.

Well, well. I was able to place the order but lets all remember that this is onSale. The same ones who oversold by a HUGE margin the last time. I have zero confidence in them at this point, but I am willing to be proven wrong. Come on onSale, prove me wrong.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Did anyone ever find out how many TP's HP made and or sold? How many TP owners are out there?

I was able to place an order too...

But I am think my order just put me into an "approved" queue.

I am guessing OnSale doesn't know how many TPs they are going to receive. I am thinking if they get enough in, I will receive one. If not, my order will be canceled again.

(edit) That's strange, I just got an email that my CC was charged for this purchase. Are they REALLY filling orders that quickly?

I just received another email with shipping details...wow this might really happen!

Would be nice if they had a white one ;)

I posted yesterday that I tried to order from onsale by clicking their unique link once but instead got a message stating "The requested action cannot proceed because you either expended your unique Order ID or there is no more stock available. Contact customerservice@onsale.com for more information about this issue."

I followed their exact instructions but after receiving this error message yesterday, in desperation or annoyance (not sure yet) I clicked the link numerous times but got the same message. I also tried to re-register to no avail. I eventually emailed customer service about this problem last night. This morning around 8:20 am central time or so, I decided to click the unique link from my email again and lo and behold, my pending order information from yesterday was there.

I entered my credit card billing/shipping information and proceeded to checkout. It took forever and eventually their website stated that my credit card information could not be verified possibly because of extra security restrictions imposed by my credit card company on the transaction(great! :( actually this is a good thing but not today..aargh ). I then proceeded to enter a different credit card which also took forever. I did not want to wait another 20 minutes so in the "credit card processing page" I clicked the refresh button (folks you do not really want to do this because you could get charged twice) I decided to ****?!@$ the whole "wait until your order is completed before refreshing this page process" because I figured I could always dispute the second transaction if it showed up on my credit card bill. I also decided that it would be a lot quicker to dispute a transaction on my credit card statement than wait another 20-30 minutes online. The good news is that 1 minute later I received a webpage confirmation from onsales that my order was successful. I also received an email confirmation to the effect. I am not holding my breath because I still have a bitter taste in my mouth due to Onsale cancelling and without notice deleting my previous Amazon order, however if and when I do receive another Touchpad, my 2 kids will get to share one for their christmas present.

onsale website crapped out on me as the charge was being put thru. my account shows no order placed. i can't use the link they sent to my inbox, as it is now expended. tried to call customer service. got thru twice but was disconnected. now all i get is a busy signal. i guess the joke's on me for trusting onsale.com again.

Anyone in the US who could buy mine for me and post it to me in the UK? PM me.

Keep at it. I got the "the item is no longer available" message multiple times, took a break and now it finally worked. As noted, the final processing of the order took a few minutes.

finally got he 2nd confirmation email.

Wow, got my order in. I doubt I will ever see this, but ... here's hoping.

It "seems" to have worked as my OnSale cancelled order number was accepted and I received a confirmation email after placing the order..I will give OnSale a nice review if they truly deliver the goods...In any event, Thanks Tim for alerting me through your post...

Sep 30th 12:40 am EDT update : Typing this msg on my touchpad that arrived yesterday afternoon; onSale finally came through !!
Thanks again to Tim and Pre Central for posting this article...

Just got a shipping confirmation email and there's a temp charge on my credit card. It might've helped that I chose overnight shipping.... At any rate, thanks to PreCentral for the heads-up.

Follow up: My TouchPad arrived this afternoon via FedEx. Bit of a shock, really.

Well I just got a shipping confirmation at 3 am this morning from onsale. Unbelievable... I was expecting another dissapointment from onsale. I was surprised that it shipped a day after my order was placed!

I just got an email form onSale that my Touchpad shipped yesterday.

Thanks PreCentral for the heads up about this. I got my shipment notification last night from OnSale!!

Adding to my comment, I selected regular shipment service.

Website finally took my order around 10 AM yesterday. I selected standard shipping and mine still says "In Process." My citicard does look like it has been charged (lower available balance), but has not shipped.

Anyone who says theirs has shipped: did you select expediated shipping?

Hoping to not screwed again...

I did regular shipping. My order was ultimately placed yesterday morning at 6:20 AM PDT. I received an email early this morning that my order had been shipped. The only worrisome part is that when I click the tracking link on the email I get a page not found error on the onSale site.

Received an email that my order was shipped yesterday. Clicked on the tracking link and got page not found.

Went to the onsale storesite to track order through order status. Put in by order number and zip code and got a ups tracking number. Clicked on that and ups says it cannot locate shipping details.

??????????? Will it show up???????????????

So I'm going to get screwed by them again. Ordered early enough and still level 0100 Aka nothing. Yet people are reporting they ordered today and it's been shipped. BBB time this time. I know I'm not the only one but citi said the order went through so it's all on them. Heaven forbid you ship to a work address...onsale is jacked up. I'm a few over 700 **** an ones tens of thousands ahead of me have shipped. Unreal...

Finally got a tracking number. Ups says the touchpad is in memphis tennessee. It looks like I will finally get a touchpad!

Got shipping notification this morning. Thanks Precentral for the heads up on this. I'm just hoping this isn't another cancelation. I'll check the tracking later today with UPS.

got tracking number yesterday (UPS ground). now tracking says it is in memphis. No ETA yet.

w00t!
