Over One Million Palm Pre Homebrew Downloads! 14

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 04 Sep 2009 10:28 am EDT

Our Palm Pre Homebrew App Gallery just clocked its one millionth download since August 19th! The actual number is higher but will forever remain a mystery, as we opened the gallery up on August 5th and, well, Homebrew actually got started way back on June 11th with the first Hello World app on June 11th. In other words: Homebrew apps are popular, Yo.

They're also graduating to the App Catalog - Translator just made its way in and another is on the way: the very popular Twitter client Twee by Delicious Morsel. Recently, Dennis Wilkins of Delicious Morsel sent us an email talking about his experience with our repository: While the app was in private beta (with an open sign up), he was tracking about 1200 unique users per day. After landing in our repo, Twee had about 5000 unique users every day.

If you're interested in submitting your app to the gallery, hit us up.  If you're interested in trying out Palm Pre homebrew apps, here's how. If you want to thank somebody, thank the developers for creating such great apps and the users for providing great feedback in their related app threads in our Homebrew Forum. Now we just need Palm to come through with paid apps (this month!) and we can start thanking developers with our hard-earned.

And you forgot to say there are almost 200 apps in the PreCentral repository! It's awesome considering this is not the official Palm's App Catalog.

Go Palm Go!!!

i just got the preload but here is a problem with the MP3 ringtone downloads it shows up in the internalz but not in my ringtones folder so i moved it and it still will not show up when i try to chg my ringtone????

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has written homebrew software for the Pre! I love the spirit of the community that wants to make this the best phone and platform out there!

Keep up the great work!!!

I totally agree!

I for one am very impressed with how organized the whole homebrew community is. I am glad this organized group started so early. They set the groundwork for all.

Nice job all!

Absolutely - compared to some of the other homebrew scenes I've followed (iPhone, PSP), the Pre hacking/homebrew scene has consistently been one of the best organized, most cooperative communities around. The progress this community has made in three months is better than most scenes make in their entire lifetimes.

I just want to thank the WebOS-Internals team, the preDevCamp guys, Dieter & the PreCentral crew, everyone at Palm that has contributed (both officially and unofficially), and everyone that has brought this scene to where it's at. If this is what we can accomplish in three months, imagine where we'll be in a year...

+1

+100

Congratulations and thank you so much for all the work and dedication!

Great work everyone. Hopefully Palm will get off their butts and release some on their own.

I think apart from being a beta testing ground, this repository's rating system can be used by Palm to determine how to rank it initially or how visible to make the new app in the official Catalog

great work thank you!

iphone is trash the pre is where it is so if you got the i phone upgrade dude ... or dudette

and BTW if we plan to put the i phone out of business let's keep it free

Great job guys! I wish I could create apps too and contribute to the growing numbers. Thank you for your dedication.
