P102UEU crops up in FCC, bound for US airwaves 49

P1002UEU

The Palm P102UEU, presumed to be the Palm Pre 2 (or Palm Pre Double Plus) has cropped up in the FCC databases, as noted by the fine chaps at Engadget. P102, as you may recall, is the model type (the Pre was the P100, and Pre Plus P101), so presumably the P102 is the next generation Pre. UEU has been determined through similar deductive reasoning to be the UMTS 3G GSM variant of the phone, however historically there have been two batches of GSM webOS devices: the UNA (UMTS for North America) and the UEU (UMTS for Europe). Strange that the UEU is getting FCC clearance while the EWW and UNA were cleared by German certification firm TÜVRheinland. Either way, FCC clearance is one of those last formalities before these devices head into the hands of users, so maybe we’re not that far from announcement time.

UPDATE: Some super-sleuthing into the FCC docs has revealed some specs and some interesting observations - check it out here.

yay

Sprint Pre 2 please!

Great, so it looks like we are going to get an identical old Pre but with a faster processor. Well we already took care of that a long time ago when overclocked our slow Pre's. I don't want to get stuck in a 1-2 year contract with a mediocre phone. When there are some amazing phones on the current market. I think I will keep my options open now that my contract is up with Sprint.

I can't wait for the Pre2, but it best be a device with a physical keyboard and not the rumored mansion.

Only problem I see is that the first page of the filings say "WLAN 802.11 b,g" without a mention of 802.11n.

Pleeeeeeease let this be a portrait slider, with a RAM upgrade, and let it be available on Sprint this November.

I think from the filings that it is indeed a portrait slider.

If you look at the SAR 2450 (Wifi) page, you will see it references "Open" and "Close" and shows graphics of what appears to be something similar to a slider.

Like I said (and has been confirmed by webOS Internals), it is indeed a slider.

maybe this one will go to t mobile lol

that could be true.

sookie sookie now...

I'm confused. I thought we were all just discussing HP's announcement of no new phones until 2011?

As I commented on that article as well, the guy said new phoneS would be available next year. That still could mean they'd release a single phone this year!

So the HP executive was talking about the Europeon webOS phones when he said early next year. Lokks like we are getting ours here in the US of A October or November.....

Note this IS the European model.

Well this has been what I was waiting for... Now we wait to see when the US version will be FCC'd...

Im going to buy it regardless, but its not eve nfunny how much I want 802.11n, and 4g on a landscape qwerty, but theres no mention of either sooo.... oh well new hardware will suffice I know eventually they will have both so its chill hahahaha

what happened to nothing until early 2011? I'm not complaining as I'm on my 3rd pre from 6/09. I'll stick with webOS as long as it exists. I would really want 2.0 and more features than a new phone without them.

They say no new devices until next year. So it is probably not a stretch to think that this is either just a remixed Pre for a new carrier or only a slight bump to the current Pre/Pre Plus.

I suspect you're correct.

I concur... plus that sticker is exactly the size and shape of the current pre/pre plus... I call refresh, we'll see how significant...

wow,the emotional rollacoaster on the forums today is unlike I have ever seen.

You can say that again. We've had our hopes go down and now up again within a matter of hours. All we need is a pic and specs and we're good.

so the statement from HP about, 'we will be releasing webOS devices early 2011' meant hp, and palm is still on track?
.....enough toying with me, just give us 2.0

what's tmobile use? Cuz if they get a carrier exclusive deal I'm not gunna be happy.if new hardware is coming this year, I hope it's for sprint

T-Mobile and AT&T use GSM(sim cards).
Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. Those technologies are for the voice calls anyway.

Bad idea to release device with same form factor

Mr. Jobs has no place for you on his marketing team. But he might let you stack his money, are you strong?

As someone mentioned on the Engadget comments......the sticker cutout is the exact same as the current Pre.......I think I am going to cry.

The design of the pre isn't bad but in reality it turned a lot of people off. A device with a bigger screen makes more sense if engadget report is correct.

Discussion thread: http://forums.precentral.net/future-palm-devices/264911-palm-p102ueu-hit... (http://bit.ly/webos-p102ueu)

Details of form factor and processor speed are in there.

I get a feeling that it will be on Sprint first.

Same battery? Really? :|

Come on HP release it now, my Pre is out of warranty and the touch screen is in a 90% dead :(

well, news is news.

if its a slider then the screen size must be the same as the existing pre with better specs. If thats the case i am going to hold out for next year, i so want a iphone 4 form factor. Also why exclude Wifi N, its the standard now. Anyway its good hearing some hardware news, looking forward to webos 2.0..

interesting that's it wouldn't be 4G. Wonder if that would prevent sprint from adopting it.

I will stay if it comes out soon and has a micro SD slot. I hate that I can't fit my music collection on the Pre! A slightly nicer camera would be nice too. A few small improvements are all I need to be very happy with my Pre (if it's 3G, rather than 4g, all the better--no $10 waste of money fee per month).

But if the Torch comes out on Sprint first, I will probably switch to that.

Final note: if new hardware is indeed coming out, it sucks that HPalm left us grasping at these FCC document straws instead of treating its customers more respectfully by making a normal announcement.

i dont see why they wouldnt, the only phone that is 4G on sprint is the evo, 4G will most likely be rolled out next year.. they might show case it along with webos 2.0

The Samsung Epic is also a 4G phone on Sprint.

If you want to know how this looks like just go to the Mock Up article. Here's the link: http://www.precentral.net/contest-mock-next-palm-device

So does this new information contradict with the time line that the HP VP provided earlier, i.e., we shouldn't expect new webos phones until next year?

At this moment, I'm not at all interested. I'll wait for a device with a larger screen.

I won't be buying it... I just read the article and my heart just dropped. That just killed all my great expectations of new form factor and new hardware. If sprint gets the new hardward i'll let them swop out the old phone with the new version for free being that that's the hardware they should have debut with back in june 09 in the 1st place... Although i'm not leaving webOs anytime soon I am getting vey irritated. I wonder does palm get it ? Why waste time on the same style that never got you very far on the 1st place... Ugh ! ! ! (pulling my hair out)

@kiddmillion

Hmm...You mean the same portrait slider style JUST adopted by RIMM (Torch) and now Motorola (Spice)? Yep, NOOOO-body likes those portrait sliders... O.o

*facepalm*

I love how some of the people here are saying they already took care of a 1ghz Pre and aren't interested in this new device when if you read the specs on the processor for the new device it runs at a native 1ghz (not OCed) and used half the current draw (hello battery life). Right now we are using a 600mhz processor being forced to work overtime at 800mhz or 1ghz which drains our batteries to the extreme. Don't get me wrong i'm all for overclocking to get by with our regular Pre and Pre+'s, but please be realistic, webOS 1.4.5 does not need more than 800mhz to run very smooth so a native 1ghz will be like buttah.

I would suspect that the bigger battery draw on a phone is the radios and the screen with the cpu coming in third (just guessing though). I wouldn't expect significantly more battery life. Standby time might increase but probably not a lot more use time.

I really can't believe we're stuck with the exact same form factor after all the returns on Pre 1. Some were form related, such as the cracked screens. My Pre has been babied since birth & I have tiny cracks forming in 2 different spots. My wife's Pre is trashed cos she drops it a lot.

I may not be able to resist upgrading if it comes out on Sprint, but I'd rather have a different shape & slightly lager screen. I like the portrait slider, but the slider never worked as well as the other sliders i've owned.

feling somewhat let down, but still love webOS too much to switch unless android steals some features from webOS. I can't live without cards!
