Palm Connections holding real-world launch event today in Portland 25
by Jonathan I Ezor Mon, 18 Oct 2010 1:18 pm EDT
Palm Connections, which will be promoting 300 small groups making a difference for the public throughout the United States (including giving them a Pre Plus and $300 of Verizon service), is following up its recent (re)launch with a real-world tour whose goal is, according to the Palm Connections Facebook page, "heading out into the country, meeting more organizations and getting them plugged in." The tour kicks off today (October 18) in Portland, Oregon. If you're in the area, why not go out and support a great company doing good?

come to Spokane, Wa!
... totally awesome!
I don't think this is the "real-world launch" most people are interested in reading about.
Real world launch of what? Free giveaways of obsolete Palm Pre's and Pre Pluses ahead of the Verizon launch of the Pre Plus + 2? Getting them plugged into what? Staring at a small low rez screen while everyone else is on an iPhone, Droid X and soon, Wp7 phones? Forget it. LOL!!!
What a sad and horrible comment to make. You know that they are giving it for free to help people. Also, it doesn't matter how "badass" your phone is. Some people still like thier old beat up phone before webos, 1gz, hdmi, iphone, etc. Keep jumping ships and stay a flag wavier. Just don't mock kindness.
Oh, come on! Was it kindness when Apple gave all those iPods to the Chileans? I didn't think so.
When I first predicted the Pre would be a free phone, I didn't think it would be as free as this. Great way to boost market share, though.
And to all who think I am pooping on Palm's "charitable" act, not so, I am all for business doing business savvy things. I am just not for dressing it up as charity. If it was charity, Palm would have done it at the beginning of the Pre run, not at the washed up end.
Based on what has been posted. Palm didnt have the funds to give freebies at the begining. HP does.
eh, on second thought, not gonna give any crumbs to the troll.
I agree with brett come to spokane wa also
Another slow news day....
two months after I move from portland...
Verizon and Palm working together probably means the next Palm phone(s) are going to be a Verizon exclusive.
Not necessarily. The EOLed Verizon Pre Pluses are being recommissioned to be prepaid phones and this promotion may kick off that transition. Those of us on Verizon hope that we will see the Pre 2 on VZW (as well as other devices) but I don't think this is evidence of any special deal on the next phones from HP.
I hope not...... Pre2 should without a doubt be exclusively for SPRINT CUSTOMERS. Ha,ha..:grin
Any news on when and where? I can't get to Facebook from work and the page doesn't seem be webOS compatible..
@RUSH....I agree. Sprint users such as myself have been loyal to Palm or the new company, Palm powered by HP so we should have the opportunity to get the new hardware first.
I would be perfectly happy if HPalm landed the new phone on all carriers.
Especially Sprint... ;)
Because it worked so well the first time?
Look, I understand that Sprint Pre users have been around for the longest and feel entitled to the newest hardware first, but that is not in HP's best interests. The iPhone is coming out on multiple carriers and HP needs to partner with a big carrier to Push the devices. Right now, Sprint just doesn't have the power to move devices like ATT, Verizon, or (IMHO) T-Mobile.
Personally, I am for simultaneous releases, but i fear that a carrier will not want to push a device if they do not have some amount of exclusivity.
LOL, ATT and VZ struggled to sell their minimum order, VZ even canceled 1/3 of their Pre+ order. Most Pre customers are on Sprint. To think VZ has some sort of "power" to sell more is totally ingnorant of the reality that VZ has used Palm and other devices as bait/switch to droid. ATT in all their power, hasn't even created a TV ad for the Pre+. I don't see where you think this will go by leaving Sprint out. VZ has a vested interest in droids, ATT has a vested interest in Torch and Iphone. THEY HAVE NO MOTIVATION to sell Palm units. None. Yeah, let's let VZ have Palm's best unit, exclusive again. To overcharge, break GPS, delay release of WebOS updates, and....here, check out this droid unit that we have spent 23MM dollars on TV advertising.
Oh yeah, VZ is the answer.
