Palm Developer Day scheduled for 23-24 April 17
Okay, so maybe it’s more like Palm Developer Weekend, but they’re calling it Palm Developer Day, so we’ll just go with that. Friday April 23rd and Saturday the 24th will see current and potential webOS developers descending on the Palm corporate campus in sunny Sunnyvale, California, to partake in a number of sessions and rub elbows with the Palm Developer Relations Team.
A $25 pre-registration fee will net an attendee access to all sessions, meals (they had some pretty kick-ass pizza last time they did something like this), and even a gift of the commemorative type.
Topical matter for the sessions will include:
- Intro to webOS
- Porting Apps to webOS
- Advanced webOS
- Marketing Your Apps: The Business of webOS Development
- Creating 3D Games for webOS
- Effective Debugging Techniques
- What’s Coming Next in webOS
Yes, it’s not just a Mojo SDK code-a-thon. There’ll be talk of app porting, 3D gaming with the PDK, and of high importance for any developer looking to make a buck or two: marketing. And is that a peak at the future we see there? We think it is.
UPDATE: As Lisa from Palm has informed us in these here comments, the Palm Developer Day could almost be considered two separate events. Friday will be "more of a webOS bootcamp" for new developers, while Saturday will be the Developer Day with the keynote, programming sessions, and - this is cool - "office hours" where a developer can get one-on-one time with the Developer Relations Team.

Nice Pun :)
Thanks for posting this, hopefully more developers will catch on now because of events like these. :)
It is so depressing, before the palm stock took a nosedive, we used to get daily new apps and Derek would have to come up with a new way to say after the break, but after the nose dive, multiple days without a single app. :-(
Yeah, it's called the weekend. There were more apps today, and we'll talk about them tomorrow morning. :D
@Derek: wow, tough crowd. You don't list new apps on a holiday weekend and some dudes are on a bridge ready to jump. Don't worry DK. Most of us appreciate your hard work.
its bout to get real hot now since the international paid apps is out and well people are money hungry.
just out of curiosity how much do you guys spend on apps a month?
We're technically hosting two events. Friday is more of a webOS bootcamp ...not glamorous, but will help new developers get up to speed. Saturday is the official Developer Day and will have the keynote, in-depth sessions, and "office hours" where you can get 1-on-1 time with app review and the developer support engineers to talk about your application.
Hi,
Will there be any objections to skipping Friday and just coming for Saturday's Developer Day?
Thanks.
I'll be giving a talk about high performance 2D graphics using JavaScript. Hope to see a lot of other developers there!
Good to see this from the software side of things... (It would be nice to have an east coast event also).
I wonder if Palm will ever have a day to gather feedback from their customers/partners on build quality flaws that seem to plague* their products more than lack of quality apps (apps are improving drastically). Maybe they should just take some six sigma classes, but I guess if Palm can't build one right, they will not build a million right.
*Palm Pre: slider mechanism, crack by USB port, flaky power button, loose battery when opening and closing the phone causes shutdown/reboots, just to name a few.
Palm - what is going on???
Palm - I'd pay $25 to access these videos online - any chance you could publish them on your website for those of us who don't live anywhere near the west coast??
WEBEX!!!
Adora mentioned on her Twitter that these sessions will be recorded and posted online for free, and they are looking into streaming options. http://twitter.com/Adora/status/11664705734
@blueray: Exactly what I was thinking. Live streaming would be great but being able to log in and view them later would be even better...
(P.S. No idea why this reply wasn't nested as it should have been...)
I can't wait! I'm registered, booked, and reserved!
Woohoo! Registered, booked, and reserved too!
