Palm to employees: Business as usual until the buyout 21

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 18 May 2010 6:21 pm EDT

Palm's preliminary proxy statement to the SEC contained all sorts of juicy details about what happened before the HP + Palm deal was solidified. Today they have filed some other details that appear to be a Q&A meant for Palm's own employees.

The questions are all of the sort you might expect employees of a company about to be purchased might ask. The good news is that the majority of the answers are some variation of "Business as usual." Hiring will continue, relationships with carriers and vendors is to remain unchanged, and they're even continuing the summer internship program.

One interesting question was "Did Elevation force a sale?" The answer is a simple "Absolutely not" and a further answer says Palm's big recent investor supported the sale. It's also interesting that the document not only suggests that CEO Jon Rubinstein will stay on, but that he will "stay on to run the business after the transaction" (emphasis ours).

Unfortunately, we don't have any more details on whether HP will keep the Palm brand (memo to HP: do).

+1 for keeping the Palm brand

I 2nd that :) Go Palm!

+1 +1 +1

Keep the Palm brand!

If HP thinks it's hard to sell a Palm-branded WebOS phone, they better know an "HP" branded phone is a nail in the coffin. Anything else (ie tablet) running WebOS, eh, okay call it HP if you must. But keep our smartphones pure: PALM!

+100!

Well, business asual. I just went into a At&t corperate store today,& pretend to know nothing about the Pre. The rep was very knowledgeable about the Preplus, he even gave me hands on, experience. I asked him if the Pre was a good phone,he said yes, & even wanted to sell it. There was no palm advertisement or store signs or anything, but it stood out. First impression: At&t pre is super solid, it overall felt like a different phone in my hands. The phone is faster than anything Pre out there. The phone stock apps has no glowing loading time, 1touch, apps comes rightup, fast. Other 3rd party apps take 1-2secs to load, which is good. Overall my At&t store experience was cool, & the rep said you got to put down 250dollars to get one, & the price will not change anytime soon. Rebate will come later, damn.

I NEED NEW HARDWARE HP/Palm!!!! Raawwwr!

Business asual.( Blades of Fury) from gameloft is now in the catalog. It's a 3D arcade fighting game, kind like, Soul of Caliber,i think. Download it,it's hot.

just make it well and make it hot...thats all i ask for. AND keep it Palm

lookin' goooooooood

business as usual? Heck no.. It's overdrive time!

PALM HAS INTERNSHIPS?!? I need more info about that!

I would like an internship too

I still feel very anxious about this buyout from H-P. Anyone else worried still, or is it just me?

most major companies have interns.

Me too. HP needs to commit to keep developing webOS For phones and not put it on miscellaneous crap like toasters and extension cords.

if business as usual is the same as the past year with no new hardware & a ho hum app catalog then be satisfied with giving up sales to android!!

Agree and lets hope that they don't forget us Palm users outside of the US! The app store needs some serious working on and so the Developer relations team need to pull their finger out. Coming on 8 months and none of the apps we see on other platforms and very very few apps for the UK user. I also have a feeling that we won't be seeing webos on phones anymore.

Are you serious? No new hardware in the past year? Everything they've released has been in the past year. The Sprint Pre was the first webOS device released, and that was released on June 6th, 2009, less than a year ago.

Please go troll elsewhere!

no kidding on the date, I was @ bestbuy on june 6th of '09.. What I saying is: what mp camera is your pre sporting? How many apps are in the app catalog th@ you go to everyday? How much internal memory is on your pre? Does your pre have a hdmi port? If you are on sprint, did you watch verizon & at&t get the plus version of the pre only to sit by & say hmmm wish I had more memory!! Just food for thought.....

crossing fingers for palm employees =)

At least they all have a chance now.

Sprint. Any mobile, any time.
