Palm Financial Results Coming Dec 17th 27

by Dieter Bohn Mon, 30 Nov 2009 1:56 pm EST

Another quarter, another chance to find out if Palm's grand experiment in rebirth is going to continue. Dec 17th is the day and while we're clueless about what the money will look like, we eagerly anticipate finding out how many devices Palm has sold.

Palm has historically refused to break out the ratio of types of smartphones they've sold, instead just giving us the total.  This quarter, however, the number of Windows Mobile-based Treos and PalmOS-based Centros is likely to be a much smaller margin of the total than usual, which means that the total number of devices sold this quarter will be our best indication yet of whether or not Palm is gaining traction. It will also set up a nice baseline for comparison for when the Pre gets released on Verizon early next year.

Get the details on the earnings call at Palm's press room, or even better, check back here at PreCentral on Dec 17th for the rejoicing or gnashing of teeth -- whichever is appropriate.

Palm will announce 1.7 million WebOS devices have been sold.
I'd say 1.3M pre and 400k pixi.

Umm...the main theme of the article is that Palm does not break down sales figures for individual devices so there will likely be no specific figure for WebOS devices, Pres nor Pixis.

My prediction is that sales will be lower than last quarter. Palm will attribute this to gradual phasing out of non WebOS devices but will decline to elaborate any further.

Right, that's why i assumed that the mix would be like that, we'll never know.
I'd have to disagree on fewer sales though due to the aggressive pricing taking place on both pre and pixi, and them selling out several BB's as noted in other threads.

If i recall palm in its last earnings call already did give guidance of lower earnings this quarter. So i believe "lower" is expected. I think the issue will be can PALM in some way exceed those expectations. They could do that by NOT having lower earnings at all or having earnings that are lower but NOT as low as expected. I they are in line with expectations the stock will probably not move too much. That said being in line is a sign of some stability. On the flip side it also does NOT prove that Palm has a consistently selling product. so spectulation will still be out their. i'm sure what investors want to see is something like Pre sales improving every quarter. That is 700k units sold in one quarter, 1 MIllion the next. 1.2 million then next. And revenue growing in a similar rate. time will tell. But the stock will move on the merits of Palm as a business not whether web os is any good. Like they saying goes, "Good products don't necessarily mean good companies or good stocks."

The moment of truth - sell now or hold the stock??? I'm betting on Palm long term.

Me too. I do hope Verizon gives webOS a decent amount of ad time though. They sure have been quiet the last month or so.

quiet in regards to what? The Pre? They've been blasting their horn on AT&T and the Droid .

I think I'll buy more stock soon.

just added another 2000 shares

2000x more time the fail!
I love my pre but palms stock is toast

Ya, I hope it's good news because I've been getting Kenneth Pinyan'ed by Palm's stock.

Also, @etrade18 . . . .2000 shares? Why are you browsing PreCentral? Why aren't you on your yacht right now? .....or, perhaps you are.

Yeah. He's obviously a thousandaire.

A thousandaire! That ballin! Let's go to a strip club in vegas and make it sprinkle.

@blackmagic01

LMAO!! Now THAT was the funniest thing I heard all day! Thanks for that.. :)

lol!

2000 call contracts

what k?

What's the expiration date on those calls?

Could someone tell me what's the time span for the second quarter? Is this September, October and November sales?

I wonder if Pixi sales would be included?

Thanks if anyone knows :)

yes pixi sales are included

sept to november including sprint canada europe mexico pre and pixi

That is a good point. Hopefully it will boost the numbers a bit.

I will be buying some palm shares tomorrow morning. I am betting on the rumor that the GPU, native apps, and WebOS hitting other providers. If Verizon is indeed picking up the Pre, then I expect Palm's stock to rise a bit. Also, who knows what Palm will show at CES. I am betting on 2 variants of the Pre. A proper Pre 2 slider and a slab version with identical hardware, but thinner. If palm did this, they would allow for people to choose a physical keyboard or a virtual keyboard, and as we all know, choice is a good thing.

I am curious if they will announce the launch date of the Pre on Verizon right before they release their financial results. If sales werent all that great, now would be the time to release some positive information.

Hopefully the numbers r good.

Good to see misting systems

I think the issue will be can PALM in some way exceed those expectations. Chicago movers USA MOVING & STORAGE is a full service chicago moving and storage company able to provide quality moving services throughout United States for both residential moving and corporate relocation.
