Palm needs a Senior Launch Manager, we need a launch 30

by Dieter Bohn Mon, 23 Aug 2010 9:08 am EDT

Akitayo in our forums is becoming a specialist in keeping tabs on Palm's job board and the latest brings yet more evidence of the obvious: new product launches are on the way. Palm's looking for a Senior Launch Manager (who presumably will work with that Director of Sprint Retail Sales) to "drive the marketing strategy for your product and help drive its success in the market."

While we're at it, we'll note that Palm is still also looking for a video conferencing engineer, presumably to help HP make use of that Vidyo video conferencing acquisition.

I would have hoped this would have been posted 2 months ago :)

I have to agree. A new product announcement is more than 6 months late. I've been lost to my EVO and android, possibly forever at this point (my pre was moved to my spare line), but I'm still hoping form something really special from HP. At this point it better be leaps and bounds above anything else. They've had long enough to get it right.

why are you hoping for something groundbreaking from Palm when you have jumped ship to the EVO? I really don't understand why people jump to another phone and then come back to say they are trying to hold on for Palm, when you've already jumped ship! That's not considered waiting on Palm in my book! I'd rather you say the EVO and Android couldn't wear Palm's "jock strap!" instead, you spew this shit about your well wishes for Palm, while your actions fall way short of your words.........

So you're saying that now that I'm using Android, I have to use it the rest of my life? I still feel webOS is superior to Android, but the Pre is a piece of sh!t, holding me back from doing what I expect to be able to do. So yes, I jumped ship to a decent piece of hardware that lets me do what I expect 2010 smart phones to be able to do.

I also expect HP to get a smart phone out, in 2010, that is just as good if not better. Then I can jump ship again from Android back to webOS. So yes, I still come to precentral daily, as well as go to androidcentral daily.

I'm not going to cripple myself because HP has let their users down and I have no problem changing phones every 6 months if I have to. I'm one of the ones, manufacturers love because I always pay top price to have the latest.

So should I continue to use an outdate computer incapable of running apps I need to use daily while I wait for a new chip from Intel/AMD? I don't think so. And I'm not sticking around using my 4th Pre that can't stand up to regular daily use.

And for you sir, I hope that Palm does not come out with a new smartphone for 6 years, I would love to see you limping on your Pre long after carriers have dropped the Pre.

For your information, there are a lot of people, myself included, who feel that webOS is superior to Android. But I also feel that the current hardware provided by other manufacturers is superior to the Pre.

Why are phanboys like yourself so completely blind to things which do not conform to your narrow minded view of the world? I most likely will jump ship to Android for a year too. If Palm does come out with something in a year, I may be back. Or, I may be on Android until something better than Android and webOS comes out. Only time will tell...

I said it here - http://goo.gl/3e1g - and i will say it again, the new palm phone for sprint is coming on September

I'll still support Palm cuz I love this Pre but DAMN can't we get even a tiny little admittance to something? My poor phone won't take much more, cracked screen, busted usb cover, keypad has to be punched for some letters, and it's a Sprint Pre,overclocked but still...

Hrolf dude wow... You need to take care of your stuff.. Sounds like your so rough on your gear maybe a new Palm device being released isn't for you.. You may wanna check out the new Nokia device N9 which is made up of alot of aluminum.. Lol.. Just kidding relax don't go crazy it was a joke.... Like Nokia.

but in all reality if your with Sprint take that sucker to a CORPORATE Sprint store that has a service tech.. The problems your talking about usually Sprint just replaces your phone for free... Unless of course you really abused the sucker.. Then I hope you paid the extra for insurance on your Pre... I don't know how anyone could get a smartphone without the insurance... Especially seeing without discounts to replace your smartphone from abuse or accidents is sooooo expensive. What's the pre with no discounts like 400.00 or 500.00.... Or you have a 100.00 deductable with insurance.. That's almost a no brainer.

bottom line is take care of your smartphone.

I been waiting for the pre from jan 09 to june 09 so I can wait from aug 10 to dec 31st .. (hopefully it will be out before that) I just know one day precentral will be on fire with new news

Why in the world do they need a Launch Manager? They still haven't hired the Senior Product Manager of WebOS Smartphones that they posted over two months ago.

(P.S. - I'm still interested, and I will keep applying until someone calls me back.) :)

This past weekend I had a few too many with a senior manager from Sprint. He was a huge fan of the Pre and uses it still as his main phone, even though part of his job is using new phones and then guiding the development of the instruction manuals. He is holding out for the next Pre just like most of us. The bad news is that he told me the next Pre won't be out till next year. I told him about the Roadrunner sightings and he said that was definitely the webOS tablet and that the tablet was the big announcement coming up. I hope he's wrong, but just thought I'd relay this info.

a senior manager from sprint's job is "using new phones" and "guiding the development of the instruction manuals"?

does not compute... at all. lol.

Wasn't his main job, but the point was he used all of the new phones (including international ones) and he still liked the Pre the best.

This .... is ..... news?

What a way to fuel the fire. ;)

I will give them until early next year, and if they don't have something new, I'm off to Android.

There is no way Palm can put out a killer phone by Oct or Nov, like the dozens of forum rumors say, if they are still trying to find someone to implement video chat in the device. So they hire the person now, and magically millions of units are ready to ship in 60 days? This makes me afraid the next phone is Q1 2011 with the tablet...

Well they could still do video chat via other methods and change the format with an OTA update down the road. Even if they hired someone in July for that, I would seriously doubt that person would be able to have everything ready by any of the launch rumors of Sept-Oct.

We have no idea if Palm was even working on video chat. I assume the next phone will reflect the Palm roadmap and the cycle after that will be more refelctive of HP's influence.

I will probably never video chat anyway, but it would be a disaster to go the route of the Pre. The phone is missing key features, but hold on because we will release the OTA on a vague, poorly managed timeline. And,since Apple and Android are doing native video chat, Palm more or less has to have out-the-box to keep up.

I don't necessarily agree. There are android phones being released without any video chat functionality. Its It's not a feature that is make or break for a phone. People have various video chat options available from their computer if they want to enjoy the world of video calling.

Like I said, Palm may not have even been working on a video chat feature. The EVO uses a third party app for video calls which Palm may do also. I agree that Palm needs to release a fully realized set of software functions.

I was just saying that if they do have their own video chat function, any hire from this point on will be building on that system, creating a new one for future phones, or both. Improvements to the program can be done via OTA updates. As long as the initial software is decent, then OTA improvements won't play out like video recording did on the Pre where the function was non existent for 9 months. I do agree that they can't release a phone with a front facing camera that has no function and promise it will come OTA in the future. That won't happen though. Either they have the program ready and will release it with a camera or they don't and the next Pre won't have video chat. Either way is fine.

DOH! That must be why they haven't launched anything yet. They are all standing around looking for a manager to tell them what to do... ;-)

Lol good one I can picture it now!

Bottom line is no one on this forum knows what is coming.. Everyone has an opinion & an idea & lots of hope.. Great to live in a free country!
come on HPalm...

Opinions are like assholes....... You all know the rest of that statement. Lets just be patient! I admit I want new hardware and a bit of bigger screen with all of the latest specs in phone, but I will wait on my new WEBOS device until either they come out with one or tell me they're not making phones. I have tried Android and IOS4, and honestly, I don't see how anyone that's used WEBOS can tolerate those platforms! The difference in use is like going from a smooth automatic to a herky jerky stickshift. Not so much with IOS4 though! That's the only phone I would consider after my Palm!

absolutely. it is refreshing to see someone write who has a brain. it is incredible the amount of whiners who post in this forum. i am with you. palm to the end, definitely not Android no matter how many "flavor of the month" packages it comes out in. iOS4 if there is no palm phone. nuff said.

oops,made the famous triple entry..WTFAJ

Were all 3 entries done with your "smooth automatic"? ROFL

double post.....grrrrr!

Patiently waiting for new hardware. Whenever it comes. Not in a hurry to waste cash anyways. Paying off some bills in the meantime.

Ease up people. We shouldn't run off anyone who wants to adopt or re-adopt webOS. I understand the need for new hardware and key apps has forced some people to jump ship. That is reality. Another dose of reality is Palm has to gain marketshare in order for webOS to survive. So we need everyone we can get. Hopefully the combo of new hardware, new apps, 2.0, and renewed media attention will gain HP/Palm new users in droves!

You guys (and girls) actually think that the roadrunner 960x640 is the tablet????! LOL! First of all that resolution would suck for a tablet in 2011. OF COURSE it's the new phone! One of palms major strategies for growth is to make it easy for iphone developers to cross over to webos. If iphone has a 960x640 screen then so will the pre 2. It's that simple. The screen may not be the exact size (LxW) but it will be the same resolution.
