Palm Pixi Makes a Fashion Debut 10
Palm is showing off the Palm Pixi in New York this week at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park. In addition to the above video detailing Palm's inspired presentation room, they have a funny little Facebook app called Runway Wars (warning, direct Facebook App Link), where they'd like you to vote on celebrity hairstyles.
The tie-in, of course, is the Artist Series of Touchstone back covers that Palm is planning on releasing with the Pixi.
It's starting to become clear that Palm is making a strong play for the celebrity set, but so far they've been unsuccessful in dethroning the BlackBerry. Do you think they have a shot?

The reason so many Celebs use the BB is because of its durability (for the most part lol) and its BB messenger.
The Pixi will probably not be a huge thorn in the side of BB. Even the iPhone the celebs wont switch too, I think BB might keep the celebs for a while.
Although crackberry users are very loyal i thibnk the do have a chance. blackberrys arent very inuitive and not so user friendly i tried one out the other day and immediately felt like throwing it across the room lol. to many menus and option. browser isnt very good. i notice what people love about bb's are that they are great for messaging. And the pixi as well as pre are great for messaging. On top of the the webos opperating system is great. So i think with time palm will eat up some of blackberry's business
I think that Palm has an increasingly good chance of crashing the celeb scene with their new identity, style, and most importantly - OS! Sure BlackBerry is a veteran and the iPhone a "trendy" phone, but Palm isn't exactly a new company, and with redefined vision, new leadership, unrivaled software, a partnership with the most affordable (not to mention fastest) wireless network, and rapid updates there isn't a doubt in my mind Palm will make ripples and have an effect! I, personally, was one of the overnight campers for the Pre 6/6/09 and am kinda considering that Pixi (with orange custom back!) Can't wait for one like Pixi with on-screen keyboard ONLY!
I'm just impressed the guy knew enough to call the board part of the skateboard a deck. Wonder where he read that.
in a word, "no"
Yah I have to agree...crackberries SUCK. I had to help a coworker with hers once (I was using a Treo 650 at the time) and it drove me nuts trying to navigate through the thing, no wonder people have wrecks while trying to text message. lol
I hope Palm knocks the crap out of the BB market. Only reason BB is still popular is business use them for messaging/email while out of the office when they shouldnt be and the government for the same reasons (President himself included, dang crackberry fan), and since the government has it "it must be good" BAH!!!
GO PALM, kick BB too while in the process of kicking Apple around. Man I love this company (Palm), hire me!!!!!!!!
Really...who cares? Besides Palm, I guess. As a Pre user, I could care less what the "celebrity set" is using. In fact, in general, I could care less about the "celebrity set". They do not influence my decisions in life at all.
You can do this at Sprint also, for most any of their devices: http://sprint.skinit.com/skins/
I have a blackberry and know it sucks but its pretty much the best out there for verizon right now on consumer side. As far as celebs, I imagine that they have a high demand for email/calendar functionality for events, auditions, agent updates, and the like... similar to business users. Despite BB sucking in soooo many areas, BB has well established software (that avg consumer will never use) to handle these features directly or from a remote site. I would not say these are great but they are the most functional. Until google calendar becomes the ubiquitous calendar/email app, IPHONE by its mac nature will NEVER corner the high-throughput market of business. On the other hand, BB should be very, very scared of WebOS which could be the iphone/BB hybrid available on all carriers that takes over all of its market share.
This video was totally my idea and was actually captured by a former colleague of mine (while we were in between runway shows)! I'm so glad one of my favorite blogs has posted it (I later posted a write up on my own blog after the video was posted). This has made me smile so much.
And for the record, the Palm demonstrators/promotional staff were so kind and let us sit in their booth almost the entire first day when we weren't at runway shows. I just wish they had had a plugged-in Touchstone so I could fuel my Pre. Too bad the booth lacked an open power outlet!
Thanks for posting!
