Palm Pre Ad in Best Buy's June Buyer's Guide 11

Evidently Best Buy does plan to advertise the Palm Pre, contrary to their earlier lack of advertising. Earlier, it was easy to attribute the lack of advertising to some supply issues, which would make sense, but putting this large of an advertisement in Best Buy's June Buyer's Guide does show some level of commitment.  Maybe Best Buy is getting more devices than earlier rumours indicated.  Either way, people wanting an off contract Pre would still do well to seek a local Sprint Store.  That being said, seeing an ad that large in a public printing is always a good sign, and hopefully it'll get new people to consider the Pre.

There are several BBM locations in my area, a rep from one of the BBM's said her store already has over 25 units and the waiting list is only at 12. She did say the other BBM locations in the area have the same number of units. I believe this shortage we've been hearing about is designed to create demand.

We all knew the Pre was going to come out before June 30 so BB could print this monthly guide at any time.
But since the exact release date wasn't known until last week, the earliest BB could get it in its weekly circular would be the one that comes out June 7.

I have asked at the 2 BB's and the 2 sprint stores that I drive by regularly in the Atlanta area and I have not found anyone keeping a waiting list, or taking preorders....etc. No one has admitted yet that anything will be for sale before regular hours on Sat., although two of them gave me a card to call Friday and see if they can do anything. Anyone hearing a different story in Atlanta?

First off, out of the 1,067 BBM locations only 300 are carrying the Pre. All of the BBM in my area have a waiting list. None of the Sprint stores in my area are doing a waiting list, in fact, a memo was sent down from Corporate to all the district managers, which specifically says not to do a waiting list. Lastly, business customers have been able to pre-order starting this week, my company has several pre-orders for the Pre.

My local Best Buy said that they couldn't do any Pre orders or waiting list. They said to come early on the 6th. I'm trying a different one later today.

They also told me I could upgrade to the Pre for $199 even though I'm mid contract. I said, "but I think I'm only eligible for $75 off, right?". And twice the BB rep rolled his eyes, shook his head and said "ehhhh Best Buy doesn't care about that. You will get it for $199."

I'm definitely checking on that at another BB as well.

I should have said pre-orders from Sprint Telesales, that is what I meant. Do you live in a large Metropolitan area?

Yes -- Portland, Oregon.

Well that's surprising, I was informed by a BBM rep in my area that, the heavily populated areas are doing waiting list. Maybe it's up to the store? Try to find out if they already have the Pre's in stock, if so how many.

I just got on the wait list here in my area. Where is this d7 announcement?

I went in to Best Buy and Sprint today and neither said they had a list that I could get on. I then called another Best Buy and they said no list either.

Sprint however said that I need to register on the Sprint website (which I did MONTHS ago) and they said they will only be selling to people that have registered on their website to be notified. Everyone else will get lower priority.

I didn't get too far today. I better be able to get one on Saturday!

You're very welcome! They had STACKS of them (the Buyer's Guides) everywhere at my local Best Buy.
