Palm Pre Being Delivered to Stores? 22

by Jennifer Chappell Sat, 14 Feb 2009 1:52 pm EST

Update:  Hmmm.... those UPS boxes that were seen being delivered to a Sprint store might have been some Sprint Treo Pro's getting re-stocked after being reflashed.  WMExperts talks about the RAM problem with the Sprint Treo Pro's and that they've gotten word that some of those Treo Pro's are being re-stocked now.

Well, well, we seem to have caught wind of another juicy Pre "rumor" today.  Forum member PedroTheGoat has posted some info via Palm WebOS Blog that there are some Palm Pre's being delivered to some stores.

The Palm WebOS Blog picked up a tweet that UPS is delivering Palm Pre boxes to a Sprint shop.  Below is that sweet tweet.  We sure hope it's for real!

And Palm WebOS Blog mentioned another tweet from a couple of days ago in which an Adam said that his aunt who works for Sprint has a closet full of Palm Pre's.

All this has us wondering if the Pre is really getting close to being released.  Probably not as close as February 15th.  We have a hunch that if the 15th is going to be anything regarding the Pre, it'll be that Sprint stores will have some Pre's on display.  Just a guess though.  Stay tuned...

Even if they are pre's I dont see how they can go on sale this sunday. We haven't seen the Pre clear the FCC yet. Maybe stocking for a later date is possible, but actually going on sale in two days isn't going to happen.

Someone mentioned that you can request confidentiality from the FCC, so the fact that you haven't seen any documents from them doesn't necessarily mean anything. A quick Google turned up this (PDF) which seems to confirm it.

I won't believe this until I see it....and I don't think I'm the only one...

So this is all based on a second-hand tweet? Really?

That's why they're called "rumors." They're unsubstantiated. Half the stuff you read on the interwebs is unsubstatiated.

You want official stuff go to www.sprint.com.

To bad that tweeter didnt go into that store and ask about it.

"I just bought a Pre from a Sprint employee for twice the price." Discuss that rumor.

Hey, I saw Elvis while I was having lunch at Taco Bell. If I twitter about it, I guess it must be true.

You say you bought a Pre for twice the price!! Thats awesome, what did you pay so we can just cut that in half and have an idea of what it will cost....lmao

I saw Elvis talking on a Pre. He was discussing the last episode of Knight Rider.

Was he talking too Kurt Cobain?

^ *to

we will just have to see on sunday whats really going on

Get this phone out NOW. Palm needs some momentum to prepare for the clsuter**ck that will be the iPhone HD. Too bad for Apple I like real keyboards!

The "real keyboard" seems to be the major innovation Pre has over the iPhone. Apple has pushed that lousy software keyboard down people's throats via slick marketing, but it's still a lousy keyboard. Palm has copycatted the iPhone's unexpandable memory, small battery, capacitive screen, etc - thankfully they kept at least **one** of the good things about the Treo: Hardware Keyboard.

Well, launching this week would coincide with Mobile World Congress and the expected formal announcement of the GSM Pre.

Those are most likely the fixed Treo PRO's that had to get a hardware swap (ROM) because of WMA not recognizing memory issues:

Looks like those are the new versions of the PRO with the fixed ROM - NOT the Pre.

It isn't a "hardware swap", it is a flash (hooking up by cable and sending in new software or fixes). There are service companies that do this at a clip of 50,000 a day. This was done on the all the Pros last week.

But you are right. These were Rom-flashed Pros coming into the stores. They have only been moving regionally so it will be a few more days til they can come out of the UPS boxes and launch. They are still off the system so you can not have a sales transaction.

Anyone saying that Pre will come in March is smoking something or pulling your chain. My guess is May or June. I know for a fact that March is not possible.

Yeah, I work for a indirect dealer in Florida, and I have no word for anyone. Either, bosses, or top people from sprint (we have a chat with them on Fridays) They mentioned some other phones, but no Palm Pre. I want that phone so bad, but I can't afford one, shit is going to cost some real money more than likely.

I went into a local Sprint store and asked about the Pre. Oddly, none of the workers had ANY idea what I was talking about. They hadn't even heard of the Pre yet. I asked if they had any info on the Pro yet and thy started looking through some data sheets that they're given anew each week. I asked if I could see it and they actually let me gander through it. Apparently they were going to be able to start selling pre-orders for the Pro tomorrow but still no release date on the product.

As for the Pre, in the 12 page or so document there was not one single word or hint at it. As much as I want it and as much of a hit it is without anyone having even used it yet... I highly doubt Sprint or Palm would just put it out there as a "lets see if anyone notices." This is too much of a hail Mary pass to keep their butts in the game for them to just go will-nilly on releasing and not whore it out at the same time. Sad but expected...

wwwwwwrrrrooooonnnnnnnggggg

You are right. Feb and March are 100% out of the question. So probably is April.
