Palm Pre Makes Twitter's Trending Topics of 2009 24

Palm has made quite a splash in the media this year, and the Pre has generated so much buzz since its announcement back in January that its been tweeted about enough to get it onto the Top Twitter Trends of 2009, joining the likes of Windows 7 and Tweetdeck in the Technology category. iPhone ...not so much.
Other big topics to flood the twitterverse in 2009 were #swineflu, Chuck Norris, and the Teen Choice Awards. These are truly exciting times, people.

Well here in Germany the Pre is a well known device. Most peoply who have a blackberry, old palm or iPhone actually look on the other side of webOS. It's really interesting to see that so many people are interested in the PRE. Hope Palm will some day be back with it's full power and never doing the faults they made in the past again.
hmm... well they did already one. Why the **** did they made the pixi have another resolution then the PRE???? We had the same problems already with the old palm os forcing developers to create modifications for each device. I don't understand it!
well, i live in germany too and i work as a waiter. i see most of my guest in restaurant own an iphone'that is sad'.ALL these times i have seen only 2 guest with palm pre and have personally spoken to them and they were not verry happy with the phone because of its email problems.... i also have the same problem with my emaila ccount. i cannot add an account. i keep getiing the same error* unable to contact with the server* ... can u help me?
The fact that iPhone didn't make the list makes my happy list.
Shows that people are finally being fed up with Apple. Palm is quickly taking the mindshare! Go Palm!

So no iPhone... you know what macworld is :D? I know can be everything but I bet on it that there are also some iPhone topics.
The constant iPhone bashing in this place really makes me cringe, in both the articles and comments. I mean what is even the need for 'iPhone... not so much'? The author is clutching at straws just a little if he thinks the Palm Pre's mention and not the iPhone's is signalling some massive turnaround in fortunes. Honestly, a bit of maturity wouldn't hurt. Respect the competition and what they've done!
he is just making a valid point that the king of smartphones in the US is not even on the twitter map and that the Palm Pre is... nothing wrong with pointing that out.
Pre being on this list wouldnt be very interesting if Windows mobile, android, iphone, and everyone and their mom was on it...
Just hop over their their "sister site" for the iPhone. They will spin an article here towards Pre, and then you can read their spin for the iPhone audience on their other site.

It's an interesting tidbit of information that the Pre is on the trending topics list and no other smartphone is.
Why he brought up the iPhone specifically is simply because the iPhone is king of the hill right now (in terms of mindshare) and basically is the representative of the smartphone market (again, in terms of mindshare). Therefore, Palm making this twitter trending topics list (a gauge of sorts of mindshare) is notable. If Android were king of the hill, I'm sure he would have said "Android...not so much."
Your complaint is definitely a case of molehill --> mountain.
Maybe I am getting old, but I still don't fully understand the point of Twitter.

Anyway, a bit of maturity would not hurt I guess. It's good to put other phones in perspective, but pinpointing it down to iphone is a bit childlike.
Realtime sharing of information, discussion or getting almost instant feedback from questions. Great way to get a joke or two, instant news, or links about whatever subject is covered by those you follow
Well I like the iPhone bashing because I bought the Pre only because I believe someday it will be head-to-head to the iPhone.
It's a big competition, the smartphone market. iPhone is at the moment the best phone for users how don't like to hack and such stuff. It's amzing userfriendly.
Well since the pre also has these kind of features (or wants to have them in the future) the only phone the pre needs to compete with is the iPhone. So of cause it needs to be mentioned on this side.
An important thing to remember here is that this is a measure of PEAK tweets. Those of us who follow Twitter know that after the Palm Pre had that impressive spike in tweets it hardly ever made the trending list again, whereas the iPhone was on the trending list multiple times. So in terms of absolute numbers OVER TIME, iPhone of course wins.
... But in its brief flash of Twitter glory, the Palm Pre flashed the brightest for 2009.
It would also be interesting to know how many tweets are sent out from iPhones vs. other smart phones. Now THAT would be all telling.
Heh actually the Palm Pre was the only phone on the top 10 list let alone the only computing device there.
