Palm Pre Plus coming to O2 Ireland on Monday? 17

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 18 Jun 2010 2:27 pm EDT

After showing up for O2 Germany and in O2 UK, the Pre Plus looks to make O2 Ireleand the next stop in its world tour, according to some in-the-know posters on O2 Ireland's forum. The drop date is supposed to be Monday the 21st.

Pricing and plans aren't clear yet, but we wouldn't be surprised to see them both come in at around the current pricing structure for the (naturally now out-of-stock) regular Pre.

How long does Palm think it can keep dropping a year-old phone as "new". Time to move on to a new device. This is old news. We're waiting.........

How long? Until July 31st.

This actually has me worried. Would this delay any potential releases of a new/next version of the Pre? I mean - why are they releasing a 1.5 year old smartphone in the first place? Shouldn't they hold off and release - whatever is coming up next from Palm? Would they ultimately hold off releasing the next generation until these old Pre's are on the market for some time?

Will we ending up waiting longer because of this?

The Pre JUST turned 1 year old this month. The Pre PLUS is 6 months old.

This makes me think - the next Pre is a long way off! Sad now!

I have 6 months of waiting left in me and then I have make a move

I can honestly say I am getting fed up with these launches of the "new" Palm Pre Plus...it's been over a year since Palm launched the Pre. Stop talking up these nearly-obsolete phones and give us something on the new devices already.

The Pre Plus is only 6 months old. Release cycles for products are often out of sync by geography with a great many products being released as new based on where you live despite having been released elsewhere months before.

Same thing happens with TV shows, movies, HTC and Motorola phones, cars, and other consumer electronics the world over. Sometimes you're first to get it, sometimes your last. Regardless the company will market it as new because it's NEW to that geo/demographic.

Example from the movies: Spirited Away was released in Japan in 2001 NEW. Then released in parts of the US in 2002 and then again to ALL of the US in 2003. Then it was released in Kuwait in 2005. Each time it was promoted as the "new movie from Studio Gibli/Disney/Distributor HERE..." They're technically accurate for the population they are marketing to if not entirely accurate based on chronology.

So while YOU have enjoyed your OLD Pre Plus, O2 subscribers in Ireland haven't had the opportunity yet and therefore it's NEW to them.

The pre came to Europe 6 months latter than in the US
I would expect the same is going to happen with the next version.

Meaning.... I don't think that this news say anything about the next device release date.

PD: I have to wait another 6 months I would love to have a Pre Plus in the mean time....

+1

sure wish I could get a pre plus on my sprint network. It's bad enough at&t & verizon sell the plus for next to nothing. On top of that, other countries get the hot sh** & I'm stuck with the old pre? What a kick in the balls... :(

What are you crying about? You got to have a Pre 7 months before anyone else! And maybe you'll get lucky and the next Palm phone will also go to Sprint first.

Yeah, you may be right. But still, I would have used my yearly upgrade to get the pre plus.

My actual contract finish on July,11th. I'm still waiting for the Pre Plus in Spain. Come Palm!

Wow, i bet this will rival the likes of HTC and Apple phones!

Palm have to understand that the Pre is a dead duck. Why do this on the same week that the iphone 4 is on sale!

i dont think i have ever been more pissed off in my life, i asked the O2 representative in ireland if the pre plus was coming to ireland in the near future when i was replacing my pre (because it literally fell apart after 3 months of careful use. I have it insured and i pay good money so i felt i was entitled to at least that information. I was told explicitly no. that they would not be releasing it here due to low sales of the original pre. i could have just switched up to an android phone but i decided to stick it out. I pay 100 euro a month for next to nothing on top of 10 per month insurance and i get treated like that? nice work o2 ireland.

The Pre the Pre plus is obosolete in the cell phone business, no one one last years tech! I don't thinks Sprint wants to have anything to do with the Pre Plus and I don't blame them. The Pre can't be good for business with all those exchanges/returns. With newer phones coming out each month who wants to buy that old junk! Get with the program Palm!
