Palm Pre Plus out of stock on Verizon and AT&T online 23

  Palm Pre Plus

We're not sure if you can derive any information from this, but we've had several readers let us know that both Verizon Wireless online and AT&T online have been out of stock on the Palm Pre Plus for some time now. We'd sort of been assuming that we had a overstuffed channel on both carriers so seeing it out of stock since last week has been odd. We called around to a handful of stores on both carriers and the local guys all report that they have plenty of the devices on-hand.

Maybe they just don't feel like competing with HP.com, who is selling contract-signers the Verizon Palm Pre Plus for $19.99 and the AT&T Pre Plus for free with a $50 gift card.

We're not feeling that this means newer devices are in the pipeline, but given that Verizon is still charging a crazy-low $29.99 with free Mobile Hotspot, we can't say we're super pleased to see it out of stock online. Anybody been jonesing to buy online only to run into this out-of-stock wall?

Sources: AT&T, Verizon, HP Wireless Central; Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

It may be as simple as Verizon and AT&T wanting to drive traffic into the stores rather than ship it back to the DC to fill online orders. If we want to jump to wild conclusions, let's start a rumor that this means that the iPhone is coming to VZW.

Maybe they're selling better than we anticipated o.O

The weird thing is that as of just a few minutes ago, Verizon's Flash-splash on their homescreen is still advertising the Pre Plus and a BlackBerry device for $29.99. And just to the right of my comment box is an ad for AT&T's Pre Plus at $49.99.

Chance the ad to the right is not from ATT though.

Indeed...thanks for the correction.

i hope something else is coming...

I wish something was coming I really do. But I was @ my friends Sprint store on Friday trying to replace my Pre.. I was trying to get a Pixi without using my upgrade she told me she couldn't. When she asked me why don't I want to use it I told her b/c I'm holding out for a new Palm device.. She told me that I would be waiting for next yr!!! :o She said that her store has received a list of new devices that will be coming out from fall to the holidays and there was no new Palm device listed :(.. Man I hope that she's wrong...

Well regardless of what is or isn't coming, there is no way that list would have a phone that hasn't been announced yet. Just saying.

Maybe this is a regional thing? I'm in Virginia and when I go to VZW online the Pre is not marked as out of stock. It's still selling for 29.99 with 2yr contract and online discount - no "out of stock" flags.

Still available online in Zip 10026

I've run some numbers with sbono13. Using StatCounter browsing stats & based on sales volume the first 3 quarters, I estimated that there will be an increase of about 513,000 in the webOS installed base for Palm's Q1 (June-August). Taking into account webOS phones going out of service, that's roughly 600,000 phones sold in the quarter. That's higher than the ~500,000 Palm sold the first 3 quarters, probably less than they sold in the March-May quarter when Verizon started their aggressive pricing.

As another metric, Pandora downloads continue at about 3000/day. That's about the same rate as last year, back when there were only a few dozen apps available. Which gives somewhat more credence to the sales estimates, since they sold 550,000 Pres in their first quarter.

All told, I'd guess we'll see total phone sales of 3 million through August 2010. Figure 2.8-2.9 million still in use, 80% in the U.S., and that's a US installed base of 2.3 million as of 8/31/2010. Pretty much in-line with other guesstimates out there.

I find those numbers to be pretty impressive, better than what I thought.

They're estimates, we'll never know how accurate. But I wouldn't describe them as pretty impressive. Google is activating that many Android devices every 2 weeks.

How many Android devices are there? How much advertising has Verizon done for the Droid series of devices? Remember all those people saying the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus were not selling well?

Still available if you put in Cambridge, MA as your location.

I hope it means that they are clearing the runways for a new Palm phone take off! Take care, Jay

pre plus out of stock on verizon, pre of course still available.

At&t - pre plus also out of stock...

so both out of stock with pre plus, I am accessing from columbus, OH

I'm in So. Calif and VZW still has the Pre+ online and in my local Verizon store for $49.99.

Funny thing is, just a month ago I walked into my local Verizon store and told them I was an AT&T customer and I wanted to switch to their service. I got the Pre+ for free ($0.00) and the free mobile hot spot, and a leather slip case for $4.97. I did sign up for a 2 year agreement.

One possible reason for this could be that both Verizon and AT&T have sent their inventories back to Palm to update them to WebOS 1.4.5 so that NEW devices are sold with the new OS version. The delay in the release of WebOS 1.4.5 may just be the carriers waiting for their inventories to be updated.

Just bought a Pre+ online last week from Verizon for 49.99 to get the free mobile hotspot.

sounds like they are draining inventory so they can set out a new product...

Both the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are listed out of stock by AT&T here in central Alabama.

Anybody remembers what happened to Helio could be the same thing
