Palm Pre on Verizon: Still a Possibility 20
According to Digital Daily, analysts are thinking yesterday's rumor that Verizon may skip the Pre is poppycock. Deutsche Bank's Jonathan Goldberg writes:
Our checks continue to point to healthy carrier demand for the Pre early in calendar 2010. We believe Palm has placed orders with the supply chain for another version of the Pre with features highly consistent with a Verizon launch
Indeed, if you take a look at Palm's financial guidance for 2010, as Morgan Keegan's Tavis McCourt did, there's pretty much no way Palm could hit the numbers they're planning on without Verizon.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg received a statement from Palm that, while it's not a straight denial, definitely adds another bucket of cold water. They write that Palm has "reiterated its plan to work with additional wireless carriers in the second half of fiscal 2010." "Additional carriers" doesn't necessarily mean "Verizon," of course -- especially since we've heard plenty of rumors that the Pixi will hit AT&T.
In other words, Don't Panic.
Update: Palm, while they "don't comment on rumors and speculation" does "point out that in a press release we issued yesterday, Palm re-affirmed it's fiscal year 2010 outlook and planned product and carrier launches in the second half of Palm’s fiscal year ending in May 2010." Here's the relevant bit from the press release where Palm announced they're exercising their over-allotment option:
Palm expects to use the proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes. Palm also reaffirmed its fiscal year 2010 outlook and its planned product and carrier launches in the second half of Palm's fiscal year ending in May 2010.

I`m still waiting for the pre on verizon.
Now all my friends can get a Pre...
Panic? Frankly, I'd love for Palm to give a little longer exclusive to Sprint. That crap that VZW pulled announcing that they'd have the Pre right at launch was dirty pool. It clearly hurt Sprint, but it also hurt Palm sales on the launch of a new phone!
I just like the fact the Palm is wanting to expand to other carriers, so people still have a choice without having to switch. My brother-in-law switched from Nextel to AT&T just so he and his wife could get iPhones. Now they're getting envious that I can call any mobile without using minutes, and the great data plan I have with Sprint.
I have to agree that both Verizon and at&t both hurt the initial sale for Palm on Sprint. So they lied to keep subscribers? Is that really a company to do business with???
Anyone waiting for the Pre to hit their carrier needs to read the comments in the forums of those who have already switched over to Sprint. Not only are they saving a ton of money but they are also very happy with the service. One even made the comment that it was nice to actually talk to a customer service rep that was not only in the USA but he could also communicate with no problems.
I agree with you that Verizon and AT&T screwed Sprint when they announced they were getting Web OS phones. I actually think this is a story planted by Sprint to get back at Verizon.
So does it piss anyone else off that Palm (or anyone else) needs Verizon's permission to make a phone that works (or is viable) on their network? Anyone remember the old black AT&T phones? Remember how much better the phone network got when you did away with the carriers controlling the devices?

p.s. I'm not actually that old, I just know the history.
It aint happening, for obvious reasons Palm will not come out and say that. Verizon is NOT getting the Pre! Similar "rumors" have been swirling about the iphone going to Verizon, that aint happening either. Besides, it will be the death of that crappy BB Storm.
I dont know what to make of these stories if VZW will or wont get the Pre and/or Pixi. I do however suspect they will be getting them.
The reason is the palm stories are vastly different than the apple RUMORS. No one at apple or verizon has ever publically said that verizon will get an apple device. However Lowell Mcadam (sp?)a mucky muck at verizon publically said that verizon would be getting the pre and 'its cousin'. So Verizon is on record as getting Palm devices.
I'm not sure of the legalese but there is a posibility that verizon would need to publically retract that. I forget the context of when he said it, but if it was a response to investors complaining about VZW's poor smartphone selection and he talked about the pre to calm investors than that could perhaps be construed as a forward looking statement, and subject to whatever regulations that would trigger. (has to have been said in good faith and the like)
This is a really good news, I guess I will still wait for it on Verizon before doing something else.
You should really be careful when reading anything "The Street" (the source of the negative Rumor) has to say about Palm. I purchased some Palm stock soon after the Pre was unvailed. Since then I have read countless articles from The Street (also the Motley Fool) telling me numerous rumors and reasons why Palm will fail and why I should sell. I personally have never seen a positive article about Palm from either of the above mentioned sources. I did not listen to them and my stock has nearly tripled . . . so I do not intend to listen to them now.
Well hold onto your hat PreJamison because even Cramer doesn't believe the rumor either.

...You know Friday they are going to throw these stocks -- all of them -- away at the opening. But as it dawns on people that it was average selling price and not demand the buyers will come back. Probably sooner rather than later.
Not only that, but I will go a step further. I believe that Verizon, which is attuned to what the customer wants, will embrace the Palm Pre and support it, perhaps even aggressively.
I know that's on the other side of what Scott Moritz, a tech reporter at TheStreet.com, wrote, but I do not think that Verizon can afford not to offer this phone given the demand it has engendered already from Sprint, a vastly inferior character I would, at the coming discount, be a buyer of Palm too, betting that we will soon see Verizon support it for 2010."
Also, just an FYI to VZW folks waiting for the Pre. I switched from VZW to Sprint and I will not be going back if/when VZW gets the Pre. Two words: "Cheaper" "Faster." Of course the "Faster" may depend on where you live. I travel all over North East Ohio and have been VERY pleased with SPEED everywhere I go.
This is just getting blown all out of proportion. VZW mightn ot be getting the Pre, they're probably getting the Pixi due to their aversion to Wifi and the Pixi's price and features more closely fits in with VZW's higher end feature phone line up that they like to push so much.
Whoa!! RIMM's stock is down 16% today! Something Verizon may want to take into consideration when choosing it's phones of the future.
We need to petition the FCC to institute a rule that any phone should work on any carrier.
Anybody second that notion?
Check this out!! Looks like another Fanboy Artical to me.

Don Reisinger (the author of that article) is a notorious d-bag. He has time and again demonstrated a complete lack of reason, and it continues to amaze me how somebody with his magnitude of lack of any kind of intelligence or talent can be a successful correspondent in print medium where you can
You definitely have to stick with verzion. This is one of the better wireless companies.
