Palm Pre vs. iPhone vs Centro: Photo Fight! 16
Navyyang in our forums points us to this thread at Chinese site Treo8.com, sporting the above photo (and one more) of the Palm Pre next to the iPhone and a Centro. The Palm Pre appears to be 'well-handed' in that the center button is missing. The original source appears to be a ludle.net parts listing page sporting the above shots as well as more Palm Centro parts than you can shake a stick at. (Oddly, Ludle's about page doesn't seem to indicate much work in the mobile electronics space - but they seem to offer all sorts of other parts.)
So there's not a lot new here except to remind everybody that, yes, the Palm Pre might be a bit thicker than the iPhone, but it is much smaller vertically. Shorter than even the Centro by a very noticeable amount.

Interesting. But when is the release date? Everytime the chatter here starts showing some frustration a small tidbit of new information comes out. JUST GIVE US A RELEASE DATE. Then Palm/Sprint can proceed with wetting our appetites with new functions/changes.
Hum. I can see a center button.
I was just about to type the very same thing. I turned up my screen brightness and there it was.
An enhanced version of the photo can be seen here. It appears as though the button is missing; there's just a depressed area, obviously where the physical button would be
nice job on doing some photo-work and uploading for all of us. As Dietert*(sp) has said: this is from some parts listing thing, so that would probably make sense thats its more of a "shell" and not a functioning unit.
Just my 2cents
Why has the iPhone turned its back to us on this picture? Its very elitist!
LOL
It's obvious that Foxcomm's subsidiary (Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) ) is behind this. Foxcomm manufacturers the iphones and CMCS has a subcontract to manufacturer the Centro on an ODM basis. We all know CMCS is manufacturing the Pre. Inventec has the outsourcing contract for the Centro on an OEM basis.
I think people will be surprised to see how small the Pre is compared to others.
True... let's see a side shot, too, even though the Pre comes out in the middle (thinner than the Centro, thicker than the iPhone). The comparative shots work better than just seeing numbers.
palm should be in a high office delivering speeches they are good at rhetoric. One minute its more info closer to public launch or wait until FHO/2009 or better yet they say we now you are tired of hearing all of the above, give me a break with all the horse shit talk and get the bloody product in the masses hand so we can put it threw its paces and enjoy or self...........
While that picture gives you a decent idea of the size of the Pre, the most accurate comparison would be to the CDMA HTC Touch Diamond. I had mine in hand and compared the two. The Pre is almost identically the same size as the Touch Diamond in every measurement. Same height, width and about a millimeter or less thin. The only difference is that the Pre is obviously shaped like a river stone whereas the Diamond has squared off corners.
The original thread also mentioned that the production of Pre has begun.
i think saying obviously, would be rhetorical.
To the previous poster:
A width comparison is in another thread on this website located here:

I just hope Palm doesn't implode before the battle has even begun. Any further delay or screw-up in launching the Pre and Palm is toast.
