Palm Sighting: Sherlock 14

Palm Pre on Sherlock Palm Pre on Sherlock

The folks at BBC recently rebooted the classic detective series into the twenty-first century, bringing Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, Lestrade, and the whole gang into the modern world with all its modern accoutrements. Included in those accoutrements are modern communications devices, and really is there any more modern of a mobile operating system than webOS? Sure, the Pre’s not the newest and fastest smartphone out there, but for somebody who relies a lot on intuition, the Pre and webOS make perfect sense for Holmes and company. Of course, we’ve yet to actually see the Pre in Holmes’ hands; smartphoning thus far has been the province of Inspector Lestrade.

Have you spotted the Pre, Pixi, or other Palm device on your favorite show? Drop us a note at pretips@precentral.net with the show and a few relevant details like air date, time in the episode, and an online video link if you've got one!

It's not really correct to say "relies on intuition". Holmes relies on logic & deduction. He scoffs at Watson's intuitions. If referring to Lestrade, who actually uses the phone, he relies more on ignorance & stereotypes.

ya govotsos you got that right on the money.. However if they are actually showing the Pre in action rather then a stage prop in a television show that's kinda cool....

sounds like a cool show too.. Is it on BBC America too? I'll have to check the cable guide later.

It was a 3 part mini-series/pilot.

It has been picked up for a second "season" whether that is another 3 episodes or more I am not sure.

I am not sure if it is on BBC America, I found it on eztv.it torrents.

Great to see the pictures I sent in got used :} - thanks

The Pre also made a brief appearance in episode 3 in the hands of LeStrade's co-detective.

According to this article:

http://www.tvovermind.com/tv-news/there-will-be-more-sherlock/28032

The series will air in US and Canada in October.

webOS most intuitive OS? No Sh*t Sherlock. ;)

A new Holmes show? Fantastic. *hopes Hulu gets it*

Am I being a bit touchy, or is giving Lestrade a Pre a bit of a put down?!

Bit of a Conan Doyle buff and was prepared for this to be rubbish but was pleasantly surprised by just how good this was - first and last episodes particularly.

Really well thought out/interesting design, with SMS messages/ Sherlock's though on screen without intruding in any way.

If you can track it down, I'd recommend it

off to www.casttv.com for a look around... Thx

I saw a Palm Pre in Hero's. I've seen it in other shows too, but I can't remember them...

The cheerleader's father used a Palm Pre. Think it was season 4. "Brave New World" maybe...not sure. Might've been an earlier season.

this was posted nearly a month ago on webosroundup http://www.webosroundup.com/2010/07/palm-pre-spotting-sherlock-holmes/. a little late precentral

Didn't see one on TV, but this morning the lady that sat next to me on the "L" (Chicago) pulled out her Verizon Pre Plus and was facebooking the whole trip. After she got off the train, another lady sat next to me and pulled out her Pixi Plus. It took everything in me not to smile at the thought of seeing not one, but two, Palm devices in the wild within minutes of each other.

Is that Jack Bauer/Kiefer Sutherland?

It was also used in the tv show Flash Forward. It was funny because it was used back when it was a sprint only device but they were flying around the world and still being able to use their Sprint CDMA pre's. LOL
