Palm Sightings: Modern Family and CSI:NY 21

Palm Pre on Modern Family

Ah, the cell phone. How did we ever pull off on-the-fly scheming in random places without it? That’s a question Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) of Modern Family should be asking. More importantly, he needs to tell us what app he used on his Palm Pre to find the number for the local Great Shakes.

Separately, Detective Mac Taylor (Gary Sinese) is still sporting his Pre around New York City crime scenes. The CSI:NY sleuth always seems to be in some manner of hot water with the mayor’s office, this time getting all fussy over delaying a race in Manhattan (as if the traffic wasn’t bad enough already). At least he’s still using the stock Messaging app, though I am surprised that the number isn’t already in his phone. The NYPD uses Exchange, right? Shot after the break.

Palm Pre on CSI:NY

Have you spotted the Pre, Pixi, or other Palm device on your favorite show? Drop us a note at pretips@precentral.net with the show and a few relevant details like air date, time in the episode, and an online video link if you've got one!

Thanks to jstew10, Underground Neo, Alan, and Alex for Modern Family, and mtaylor79 for CSI: NY.

Heroes and that aweful KGB commercial.

Rumors are flying about WebOS 1.4 being delayed. Precentral, if you have any real corroborating evidence of this, please let us all know.

I think those rumors were started by Precentral when they tweeted about it.

If the update does not make a showing tomorrow then I strongly believe that the image circulating around the web was a spoof to begin with...but since we all pretty much believed it to be FACT, rumors are now saying webOS is going to be delayed. This makes Palm look like the bad guy because now everyone expects something MAJOR tomorrow...but what if the true release was the 22nd or 27th or whatever. If we want Palm and webOS to succeed, let them do their job...don't knock em down by fabricating things.

Or maybe in this hypothetical scenario the release was actually delayed for one reason or another. There's not always something nefarious afoot.

...but wouldn't you agree that in most cases it is the public that jump the gun rather than the vendors doing actual delays?!?

I don't work for PreCentral or Palm, or Sprint, but i know we will not get an update tomorrow because based on Palm's/Sprint's track record we have not received a single update when we thought we would. However, based on Palm's track record, I know we will receive the update soon! But, is there anyone out there who wishes they could stop obssessing on when we will get the next update????? I wish that after this update, that my phone does what it's supposed to do so that I'm not lookin forward to the next update to make it better. WebOS is great and I have given up on the idea that Palm can do something through an update to make the OS not be so laggy. It's not gonna happen with the current hardware and the demands of multitasking. In fact, I don't find the lagginess that annoying as long as I reset the phone every other day or so. I'm not that stoked up on video recording as I have had it on every Treo before this phone and to this date, I have ZERO videos as keepsake. I know video recording is important to some people, but if it's that important I will buy a separate video recorder. But, what I want to stop hearing from Palm is how this update or that update is goingto increase the speed of the phone or give me better battery life. As soon as i hear those words I'm WAITING again! At this point, I'd rather stop knowing when we will get the next update, and what it's gonna be. Just send the update Palm and drop the changelog after the fact......

The reason you probably have no keepsake videos from your Treo is because the video quality and ease of use stunk. I had the Treo700w and even taking photos was a chore, and the pictures were all dark and grainy. In addition, there were no social media sites back in the day where you could easily share your photos and video.

Today it's a different world. Sharing has become almost an addiction. I have an HD video camera and a 10mp digital still camera. But I don't carry them everywhere I go. I do carry my phone with me. Being able to capture that candid moment is priceless. Just ask any parent with young kids or that young couple in puppy love.

Video on a mobile phone is in great demand now. My kids are off for winter recess this week. I would love to have this capability on my Pre.

I actually think you are right in all that you say, it's just that I think I'm tired of waiting on this update and that update you know! Back when we had our 700s, we knew we weren't getting any updates...LOL! We pretty much knew our purchase was an "as is" purchase! I recognize times have changed, but pretty much after a year with a phone I'm ready for the next new thing anyways. And, to be honest, waiting on updates that other phones already have, makes the waiting even more agonizing. I think I'd just rather know that what I have is as good as it gets, and if they surprise with a great update, then YAHOO! Am I making any sense, or blowing smoke up my own ass...LMAO?

I hear what you're saying. The frequent updates and anxiety it causes is a definitely a new thing to get used to. Imagine what would have happened though if Palm had waited until it had all the features we each expected. They'd be out of business by now.

With only 1000 employees they had to draw a line in the sand somewhere. They chose multi-tasking, synergy, basic PIM functionality, and the sweetest most elegant UI to ever come to a phone.

Now they need to build momentum on different carriers, with upgraded hardware. I agree, it never feels fast enough -- moving at the speed of development.

i watch modern family religiously. usually i can spot a pre..completely missed that one :)

Quite frankly don't see the point of these, the sad thing is i don't see these "sightings" increasing mindshare or buzz on the Pre/webOS when it clearly deserves it.

The anticipation is so strong, I think Palm should figure out a way to release on Monday even if they have to hold off on some of the planned functionality until a week later.

The only way I would delay it is if video recording had some major major flaw.

There was a Pre scene on the CBS episode of Two And A Half Men. Alan was using it and was going to make a call. I wish i could remember when it was.

He was in the ice cream shop with his brother and son. He kept taking it in and out of his pocket checking his texts or something. I think it was the one when Charlie convinces his nephew to cheat on his girlfriend and gets caught.

(removed double post)

I wonder how many of these sightings are from actual product placement or come form the actor wanting to use the pre specifically.

Recently noticed the character Dana Walsh on 24 was using a Palm Pre also. Not too surprising since they seem to push Sprint stuff pretty hard when 24 is on.

(removed double post -- again; looks like even after closing and reopening browser, some how post data is getting resubmitted from a cache in the webos browser. Weird.)

wasn't this an article about pre sightings on tv shows? Where did all the update posts come from? Big fan of modern family btw. Can't wait to see the pre on Big Bang. Although I think the sheldon and leonard characters are iphone fanboys...

Talking about NY, and technology - if you wanna see something really cool visit the restaurants New York NY, there you can have a wonderful time, with all you wifi lovers to enjoy both the quality of the food and some nice family dinner.
