Palm stockholders to vote on HP buyout June 25th 14

by Dieter Bohn Wed, 26 May 2010 5:15 pm EDT

Palm has just filed what looks to be the final an definitive version of their Proxy Statement to the SEC for the impending 'merger' with HP. An earlier version of the statement gave us the juicy details on the history of the merger, this version lets us know when shareholders get their chance to vote on the deal: June 25th at 9am Pacific.

Naturally, Palm's board of directors unanimously suggests shareholders vote yes on the deal. If you're really feeling antsy, you can read the opinions from Qatalyst Partners and Goldman, Sachs & Co calling the $5.70 per share price 'fair.'

Naturally we're eager to see HP throw gobs of cash at Palm to help webOS take off, so we're hoping that things go as smoothly as they appear to be right now. Today's all-hands-meeting at PalmHQ no doubt will provide more details to Palm's own, we trust the news will be sunny.

Double/triple up on WebOS

I vote yes. Oh wait... I have no shares. D'oh. Well, keep WebOS alive, imho.

I vote yes. Oh wait... I have no shares. D'oh. Well, keep WebOS alive, imho.

seriously, why would they vote no. Only side note shareholders, make HP keep the Palm branding!!! I would hate to use a HP phone, I mean they kept compaq they better freaking keep palm!!!!

+1 to that! WebOS needs to get a little bigger and HP will help in that. I'm not saying that cause I like the other platforms but in the end I want to see 3 platforms dominate.. WebOS, Android, and iphone.. The reason is so people have choices on what they want in a Smartphone.

Palm/HP needs to get the WebOS more business orientated so all the RIM people can jump over. If I had a dime for everytime I heard a IT person say they wish they could get a WebOS device but can't because it's not secure enough for their jobs then reluctantly pick up their BlackBerry I'd be rich.

most BlackBerry users are on one either 1.) because BB is a secure device or 2) their company has a corporate discount at Verizon. Once Big Red got the Pre plus their were a number of IT people I knew get excited until they found out they wouldn't be able to link up with their servers or security issues wouldn't allow them.

Android can keep their crowd of newbies that don't know what a smartphone is they just bought Android because the name is burned into their brains from Googles Blitzkrieg marketing and saturating the market. Hell half of Android users don't even know all they can do with their phones... Sad really..

and Apple can keep their fanboys and elitists that mainly use the iphone as a status symbol. Because as we all know Apple products are not cheap. Gotta love vanity... You have a phone cause it makes you look good like wearing designer clothes...... There it is Apple has turned into designer tech company. Oh well to each is own.

I hope the sale of Palm goes through so we can see WebOS grow rapidly like it should of out the gate. HP will matket the hell outta it at 1.2billion dollars you would think they would have to so they can make that money back.

I'm voting NO

I have 150 shares and I'm going to vote YES!!!
Long Live WebOS!

Hurry up and buy Palm. I want new WebOS devices!

This survey should also be held in the forums so we can show them how it's done. Don't want them to waste any time. Some of the worst mistakes are made during moments of indecision.

Keep the Palm name, but change webOS's name. No one knows it and it sounds generic. Call it something cool.

webOS is Palm's greatest asset, but it has absolutely no identity.

As long as don't hear any hints that HP is dropping phones or webOS, I'm all for it. I lose money but meh. I just bought a bit to toy around.

I sold at $5.80 but I would have voted hell yes!

Im voting no.

I will vote NO. This is a robbery in favor of EP money and for the new job at HP of JR & C: disregarding who believed "in the plan" and "be in for the long period" of this farsa.
I understand those lucky webOS users here that want a long & bright life for their favorite OS, but we shareholders deserve better than this treatment.

And heck, being in Italy (the country with the highest cellphone/population ratio in the world) I cannot STILL BUY A webOS phone here, thanks to the great Palm (mis)management.

Love to all

And you think without this deal that you would get one in the near future? Barring a move to a foreign country (namely the US) that would never happen if HP doesn't get this deal done.

And you speak of a farce? Goldman Sachs estimated this deal as "fair". Reading comprehension much?
