Palm UK to sell Pre 2 SIM-Free on November 12th 33
We already knew that HP would be selling the unlocked Palm Pre 2 both to developers and directly to consumers, the only question was when. We're once again not sure if this applies to the US, but Stuff.tv is reporting that the availability date in the UK for a SIM-free Palm Pre 2 will be November 12th.
Also, we obviously need to note that the November 8th date that was dropped on the HP for Students Facebook Page didn't exactly pan out. No matter - it's looking very clear that the Pre 2 is going to make its way out very soon. We'll keep watching for more details, even down to the fall of a sparrow. The readiness is all ...and we're ready. Are you?
Update: Pocketlint confirms.

first?
First what? Idiot? That would be your mom, which makes you the second idiot.
ha ha, good one.
So does that make you the third idiot for that corny ass comeback?
The reason there is a question mark there is bc I was being sarcastic... you on the other hand we're being an @55h0le
Had to look this one up, The fall of a sparrow:
This quote from Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2 comes just at the point when Hamlet is preparing to fight his final battle. Since he's a tragic hero, we know he's going to die. Even he and his friend Horatio know he's at risk, and Horatio offers to buy him some time. But Hamlet replies:
Not a whit, we defy augury: there's a special
providence in the fall of a sparrow. If it be now,
'tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be
now; if it be not now, yet it will come: the
readiness is all: since no man has aught of what he
leaves, what is't to leave betimes?
This is where the famously indecisive prince makes his decision. He has come to understand that no matter what happens, he will die. Accepting that, he is free from the fear and turmoil that's gripped him throughout the play. His fate is sealed--and, he now understands, always has been. He can go calmly to meet his fate.
Which is of course a reference to Matthew 10:29
Matthew 10:27 - 33

Hey ESSAY!!
Any guesses on price? I just bought a pre+ on fri and so still have 14 days to return it.
If it is in the
You should trade your pre+ in for this if you have the chance even if it will cost you a bit more because the phone is much better. I'm sure the pre 2 will cost about the same as the origional pre which was about $650, so yeah about 400 pounds.
yeah... thats a lot of cash to be spending on electronics that just get outdated in just a few months
Still can't believe there isn't even a rumor of when we'll get 2.0 upgrades stateside.
It is rumored we will get the update after the release of the Pre 2. Thats all we get.
sim free! does that mean no more exclusivity with O2UK or...?
How much??
Hope some carriers start taking the phone in the UK...
Nice if they do the sensible thing and just use the Pre 2 to get people hooked on webOS and offer it at a cheap price (Say 100 quid or less:P ..maybe a special deal for those who have got orginal pres and stuck by) I would defo go for it, as I think my pre is slowly giving up :P
Well based on the pricing of the original Pre on Sprint, I believe the quoted price for just manufacturing the phone was like $139USD-$178USD (cant remember which).
Since Pre 2 is better materials (gorilla glass too), you probably could find the phone for as cheap as $200 off contract fs HP is feeling generous and wanting to get this out in the open without worrying about making a buck off develper phones.
My guess is that the phone will be priced around $350. Cheap enough for most people, yet pays for HP fees needed for marketing, manufacturing etc. Basically the same price you can buy an off contract price Pre from the HP site now.
Does this mean they couldn't get any carriers to bite in the UK?
Probably. My guess is this will be their little experiment. See how many sales they'll get on a SIM unlocked device in the UK.
That is, if this is even true.
my o2uk contract is running out in Apri, i am so hoping HP get other UK carriers and break this stupid exclusivity with O2. If the price is right then i might consider the pre 2.
Anyone able to view the Stuff.tv page on their Pre or Pixi? All I get is their 404 error page with a broken egg on it, EVEN when I follow a (not easily found) link from within their site.
I stopped by a ROGERS store in Canada today and they said they had already recieved a "launch kit" for the Pre 2. They said that usually means it won't be too long now.
Hopefully it will be priced low/competitively. Either way don't really care, I'M BUYING ONE ASAP
Oh :( I thought i would of been a few months longer until it came out, so i got the pre plus on an 18 month contract.
If i brought the simfree pre 2, could I whack the contract sim into it? Would O2 find out and complain? :|
I still had 6 months left on my Palm Pre contract when I trashed my phone. Ended up buying a Palm Pre Plus on PAYG. I put my contract sim in the PAYG Pre Plus and of I go. No problems at all.
I'm going to try and pick one of these up on launch day.
oh hopefully also a german sim-free qwertz-model will be sold. by now we only have ipaqs at hp-germany :)

I wonder what HPalm will do with the app catalog model (if anything) now that they seem less keen on provider contracts. Paid apps are unavailable for me now because I use a simlock free German Pre on a Dutch provider that does not sell the Pre. Perhaps the provider will be cut out of the loop?
I use a simlock free UK Pr? on a dutch carrier (KPN) and I'm wondering if the Pr?2 has to be activated in the UK so I can still use paid apps in the Netherlands....
i hope the pre 2 comes out in the states this month because we had a rumor of nov 8 but now tomorrow's the 11 another rumor date. Lets hope it's true...
