Cool...will check it out this evening.
The real fun was the post-show...the KesslerCast.
When I miss the PalmCast (as I have for a few weeks prior to this one), I really miss the PalmCast. Dieter, Derek, and Keith do a really great, funny, job. They're laid back at the right times, intent at the right times, and snarky at the right times. Really good job, guys. I honestly can't wait until y'all have something seriously big to talk about, webOS-wise.
I'm not sure I quite understand how Sprint "blew it" with the Pre. They're advertising was FAR better than Palm's advertising with their stupid creepy girl commercials.
Sprint screwed up the Pixi by forcing Palm to exclude wifi, I'll give ya that.
EDITED: Because I completely misread. My bad.
Sprint's commercials were definitely much better than Palm's (but she wasn't creepy; she was quirky and hot), but it was too little, too late. There was a window to show potential iSheep what the Pre could do and how amazing webOS was, and thereby pull them in to a superior form-factor and OS, and Sprint (and Palm) simply missed the window.
It was really weird, because those of us already "in the know" on the Pre and webOS were bemusedly watching and talking about the missed opportunities from the very beginning, but it just didn't seem to matter to Palm (or to Sprint, until the "walking webOS" commercials, which were, as I said, just too little, too late).
We may never know the whole story, but I just don't see what more Sprint could have done. When they changed their advertising to the "Now" campaign (which is totally, completely awesome) they used the Pre as the main phone in their commercials. Then they started making commercials specifically for the Pre which were great!
In the meantime, Palm was giving us creepy girl (not quirky hot, creepy nightmarish), defective hardware, not enough phones to meet demand, a VERY late SDK which in turn meant very few apps, etc.
I love my Pre and I love what Palm was but the fiasco that was the Pre launch begins and ends with them and them alone.
Sprint has done a lot of things wrong (see: Instinct) but I think they handled the Pre launch about as well as anyone could have.
shoot Verizon and AT&T blew it more then Sprint... Verizon reps tried talking you out of the Pre Plus and onto the Droid... Where as the AT&T people didn't even know it was launch day with no advertising at all... At least Sprint tried and actually had a successful launch day resulting in shortages of the device. They made sure you knew the basic gestures before you left the store,, and had ALOT of instore advertising including one store I went into their big flat screens did nothing but loop WebOS demo type soundless ads.
out of the 3 AT&T dropped the ball.. No instore advertising and their employees didn't even know it was launch day let alone they didn't even know the touchstone charger was free with purchase of the Pre Plus..
cool I can put TWIT on pause now and listen to a pod cast that actually likes WebOS..
hehe, true dat. I hope Leo gives the next version HPalm hardware another look, but he seems pretty much in love with his Android devices these days. ;)
I have caught very few Palmcasts live. This one was one of the few. You all (Deiter, Derek & Keith) do a wonderful job with these shows and are to be commended.
Thanks to Derek for tolerating and entertaining us with Kesslercast after the show. Between the silliness (ours) there was some really insightful and informative items.
Keep up the great work guys!
