Plaxo coming to webOS 2.0 via a Synergy Service? 25

by Dieter Bohn Thu, 06 Jan 2011 7:35 pm EST

One of the little-noticed (and even less-developed-for) features in webOS 2.0 are Synergy Services, which allow any developer to plug into webOS' messaging, contacts, and calendar. We're assuming Skype on Verizon will take advantage of it on the Pre 2 (if when it's released), but beyond that it's been thin pickings.

Apparently that won't be the case for much longer. We spotted an app in Palm's Beta feed for Plaxo, which should allow your contacts from that service to live alongside your Exchange, Facebook, and LinkedIn contacts in perfect harmony. We're not Plaxo users ourselves, but we've received enough invites from others that we assume plenty of people are waiting for this service.

The app is described as a "Palm Internal Test," so it may never see the light of day. We hope it does, though, if only because this is a webOS 2.0 feature we'd like to see more developers take advantage of.

Is it just me or is it sad that we are sitting here during CES 2011 and the only news in 2 days is that some stupid service may be released one day on a phone that may be released in the "coming months" What a depressing time to own a webOS phone.

Did you sleep through the news yesterday? There was an announcement yesterday.

No. Announcing the date of an announcement isn't really news if you ask me. But who knows perhaps I am mistaken on the definition of news???

An announcement, of an announcement, that will likely announce something that may happen in coming months...it's like a campaign promise.

At CES last year, they announced Video and Flash in Q1. Maybe on Feb 9, they'll let us know what happened to Flash. And the next announcement will likely close the door on Sprint for the next year, so it would appear the big news on Feb 9 will be a universal price hike for Palm products. Yip-pee?

Think small, think big, think beyond your current budget.

+1billion

02092011...little more patience

Even with the 2/9 announcement... No cverage of CES? Zero? Nothing at all? Not even an artickle about McKinney's 'predictions' for CES?

in the coming weeks.....................

um, yeah. Where is the CES coverage?

Slim pickins...

Is HP/Palm going to be announcing anything at CES? Or did they pull out completely? I keep checking and hoping for something... anything...

yea wheres the newssss???????

how did you guys missed the posts that hp nor palm were going to make any major anouncements if any @ ces?

why do you think they are having their own event on feb. 9th?

plam sucks at keepping the few they have happy. That why they are hp now, which isn't much better. I will buy hp's next phone(180 days from today) but I will never support it or talk about. They have been bad to us. You know it. Remember 2.0 on our pres, it will NEVER happen.

I'll take that bet.

I was reading some other site's coverage of CES. The only vague mention of HP was for a laptop they're making for Verizon LTE (if my memory serves me). Not one mention of pads, phones, connected devices, toasters, etc. I hope this feb 9th thing is good.

There was an ungodly amount of Android news. They have some sick looking phones coming out. Same for their slew of tablets. It seems every mfr is making an Android device in the form of a tablet, phone, or netbook/gaming thing that I didn't really quite care to read about.

RIM has a tablet coming out on Sprint soon, Wifi at first then 4G later in this year.

No matter what HPalm does I'm stuck with my 2009 Pre until June. As a supporter I'd like to see some positive attention in the way of bad ass devices. But I can't get one for 6 more months. Hopefully that's enough 'coming months' for HPalm to get their shit together.

Yeah yeah yeah, every one of us webOS users wants new hardware, or an OTA update to webOS 2.(?). But it's not gonna happen anytime soon. What ever happened to paitence? As soon as HP aqquired Palm you should've realized that it would set the"timeline" back significantly. Personally I'm excited to what HPs bags of money, existing infastructure, and general clout will bring to our beloved OS. Go play with iOS and Droid for a while if you're that fed up. Then come back when droves and droves of first timers are just joining the H/Palm express, and you'll appreciate webOS even more. But for now stop whining at the lack of news.

I have to say it's been a long weary journey with my palm pre minus, it's like my girlfriend I love her for what she is and could be, but hate her for what she's not. I still stick with her even though there are way more attractive and popular girls out there that entice me every day, I can't say I don't look @ them and want to just drop everything for them, but i'm comfortable in this little rut I made for myself and most of all i'm loyal so thank you palm for this great little smartphone even if se's not perfect she's mine.

Word.

it's really sad when the best reading/news on this site is the SPAM post..(:-(

Hahahaha. I dont know why i still come here. I keep hoping for some kind of leak.

Guess i'll just keep using my Evo. Just downloaded an SNES emu and some games easily from the marketplace.

Why Palm, why? Why could you not keep me with easy stupid conveniences like this?

My Sprint pre is barely hanging on for dear life. I'm guessing in Feb they're going to announce that within the coming quarters, I'll be able to wirelessly connect that bad boy to a spanking new webOS printer, which is awesome because my Sprint pre (while cracking from both sides, sucking down batteries, becoming unpleasantly slow, and lacking many relevant apps) is everything I could ever want accept for one thing; I can't connect it to a webOS printer. You don't know how many times a day I've needed to print something from my phone on the fly and wished I had a printer featuring webOS to send it to. It would make my mobile lifestyle complete. I have a suspicion that's all about to change come early to mid to late 2011. If my Sprint hardware holds out long enough, which is questionable, I'm going to be there to see this come to fruition! F#$K yeah!!!

I am sick and tired of hearing about what's coming to WebOS 2.0! When is WebOS 2.0 coming?! Goodness.
