PlayScreen Launches 25 Online Games For The Pre 24
Well this isn't something you see everyday. PlayScreen, an online mobile gaming hub, has ported a collection of 25 of their games to the Palm Pre. Right now they're all only available online at http://playscreen.com/palmpre/ but PlayScreen is promising to turn them into individual local applications and make them available via the Palm App Catalog. Here's an excerpt from PlayScreen's press release:
"These ad-supported titles take advantage of the advanced WebOS on the new Palm Pre phone" said William Volk, president and CEO of PlayScreen. "Titles include blackjack, solitaire, bowling, sudoku, solitaire, roulette, backgammon, darts, golf and other popular games."
"PlayScreen is applying its considerable experience in advanced mobile technology to bring these titles to consumers" commented PlayScreen President Sherri Cuono. "There are no installs required and these games are played instantly via the browser. We're also going to make downloadable versions of these games available when Palm Pre App Catalog launches."
"With all the excitement over this new phone and operating system we wanted to make sure consumers didn’t have to wait for their favorite games" added William Volk. "Reviewers of the Palm Pre have asked, 'Where are the Games?' Well, the games are here, at PlayScreen.com."
An impressive feat to say the least and one sure to please many new Pre owners. I particularly like the Memory Melt Down and Snowboard Alley games; they're the quick, got-a-few-spare-minutes kind of games I loved on the PalmOS. Sure, the graphics and animation might not be as complex as they could be if the SDK was in a native coding language, but the games actually aren't too bad overall. Oh and did I mention they're free! Free!
So it's official: no more complaints about a lack of solitaire on the Pre.

So currently the App catalog is in beta, and it sounds like they're saying their waiting for it to be non-beta? Do we have any estimated ETA on when the app catalog will no longer be beta?
Prolly when they have a few apps worthy of payment.
Ah, this is pretty cool! Memory Melt Down is nice, but too slow...lol
Truthfully, these games as is are not as good, definitely not app worthy (even if they are free). I have my Pre and I'm hoping they make good games that really utilize the Pre's resolution and speed.
yeah these games look like poop.
I played some Blackjack and it was alright. Hopefully the full apps will be better.
They may not have an SDK yet either. It seems to be taking a long time for Palm to approve MOJO SDK applications. Although they are probably bombarded with apps for it. I havent got mine yet.
On another thought, if the app store is in beta, they may not allow paid applications yet. That could be the other reason.
A good chunk of these games are unplayable on the Pre...game response is very poor.
im in the same boat as nochmal, some games dont even work.
This should go as an package emulator app of some kind. Where you get the games suite as one app. Maybe the app will be able to utilize multiple cards, like the browser or email apps.
I was pretty excited until I tried it. It look like a piece of crap. This does a disservice to the Palm Pre really. On top of that the game will be ad supported? Count me out.
horribly games. I as a pre fan am ashamed that this is the first big game announcement about the pre.
Big announcement? No game worth downloading is gonna come out six days after the phone is released. Ditto most of the other apps.Need to give it time, we were not the only ones with no access to pre or webos.
Forget tictactoe, how about Global Thermonuclear War?
Seriously, this isn't that great, but what can you expect from ad supported web games. I didn't get this to play games, the games are just a bonus. I tried out the Solitaire and it was horrible.
It's a start, but not much more than that.
Ugh...nobody should be excited about these...UGH.
THIS IS CRAP.. sorry..
Eh, they exist. At least it's it a change from Connect 4.
Solitare was playable. The exploding pig game is clever if macabre. But whack-A-Balmer didn't work. Political Punch Out was impossible to play -- double taps zooming the screen while I am trying to jab.
These are just simple web games. They also have a iphone page at playscreen.com/iphone. Nothing Pre specific here.
John
pretty cool, this will have to do till native webos versions come out. gotta compromise! months from now we'll look back and chuckle.
Utter Crapp...to even mention these is silly.
Obviously they paid you to post this crap.
Please dont ruin your reputation by grabbing the easy money. Its obvious what happned here.
