Pre camera pics... they're out there 8

by Derek Kessler Fri, 29 May 2009 3:13 pm EDT

Picture taken with Palm Pre It all started with a Twitter post from Palm: "Just trying out yfrog.com." Yfrog is an ImageShack-based Twitter picture uploader, and obviously to test it out the people behind Palm's Twitter account had to upload a picture. It's that thing you see to the right (click here for a larger version). Sure, they could have just uploaded a picture from a computer like the next tweet said they did, but a cursory glance at the Exif data told us that this picture was indeed taken by a Palm Pre. And why would Palm fake a picture's Exif data - if anything, you'd think that they'd take steps in the opposite direction and hide that it was taken with a Pre.

Another Palm Pre Pic - Burger King That touched off an interesting idea in our forums, one that we're hitting ourselves for not thinking of: searching Google for pictures on Flickr that were taken by a Palm Pre. Clearly there are at least several Pre phones floating around out there,  and it should come as no surprise that people have taken pictures with them and uploaded those pics to sites like Flickr.

Pretty soon we'll all be doing it, assuming that you're into that sort of thing. It's cool if you aren't. Really, we won't disown you or anything. At least publicly.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

those pics look awesome for a cell phone!! the pre may just give me an excuse to take pics with my phone now, lol!!

I was thinking the same thing. Pretty darn good for a phone. I want to see how it does in low light as well.

Edit: Found one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/70314875@N00/3284053434 Not too bad (for a phone). Nothing to wow about but better than my 755p.

There's already a group ready & waiting for the Palm Pre on Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/groups/palmpre/

Palm Pre on Flickr

omg sweet, its better than my behold 5mp

LOL, Derek if you're a geek journalist, please spell flickr right.

GAH! [insert curse words here]

Thanks, corrected.

Actually, I was thinking they were a little disappointing. The colors look good but the noise level is horrible, especially in skin tones. I was expecting a phone camera but after all Palm had said about how good it was I was just expecting a little more. Oh well. Beats the 8330 I have now. Not sure about the new Blackberry Onyx though (software based image stabilization)

The pictures taken by the Pre definitely beat my Instinct...
