Pre Download Speed Test: High Speed, Low Latency 6
Xenophonite in our forums engaged in one of our favorite pre-phone-launch activities for any phone: checking out DSL Reports Mobile Speed Test results and looking for browsers attached to unreleased phones. To wit: the Palm Pre. The results: fast.

In plain English, this means you're looking at download speeds of between 500k and 1700k - which is mighty fast. Faster, we think, than most people are managing on iPhones.
Just as important as speed is latency. Speed is how fast your data comes down, Latency is how long it takes to get your connection going in the first place. Latency is notoriously bad on mobile networks, but it's darn good on Sprint's EVDO network - coming in reliably under .2 seconds, while an iPhone's latency on AT&T's over-stretched network often is longer than a second.
Add in the Pre's lightning fast rendering time and you can expect that your browsing experience on the Pre will be a joy. Maybe, just maybe, it really will be 4 times faster than the iPhone.

Do we know that these numbers aren't artificially bumped by running the speed test from within the emulator? Unlikely, but possible.
I get about 781 kbit/sec from the 1MB file on my Treo 800w. I remember when I used WMWifiRouter and connected my Dell Mini and did a test on speedtest.net and got somewhere in the range of 1.5-1.6 Mbit. It would appear that the phone was the bottleneck. I'm really excited to see the internet fly on this thing.
I wont believe this until i have it in my hands. I remember the "blazing fast internet" Sprint claimed the Instinct would have and it has been everything but blazing fast.
YOWZA!!!
The news keeps getting better!!!
We have itunes, googleOI, push, multi tasking cards...wow. Not to say there are no bumps in the road. But this freaking fantastic!!
Ok, if this is true, Palm can officially use the word BOOYAH!!!
I upgraded from a 650 to the 755p only because the 650 was slow on the net. The 755 is much better. It allowed me to tether and VPN into work and go a full workday without hiccups or being too slow. Glad to know that when I upgrade to the pre a boost in internet speed will be among the many perks.
Hopefully we'll be able to tether on the pre one day.
The instinct is very fast, just not with native browser. I use opera, and its faster than my cable connection on my pc. In fact, seeing the network on my instinct has convinced other to come over to sprint when their other contracts are up. They cant believe how fast it is. I'm in Buffalo/niagara falls area.
