Pre officially drops to $150 34

Palm Pre cut to $150

Coinciding with the unveiling of the Pixi, Palm has chosen to drop the price of the Pre on Sprint to $149.99 with a new two-year contract. To accomplish that the instant rebate has been jacked to $150, while that blasted $100 mail-in-rebate continues to hang around. This pricing is effective today and applies to Sprint stores, telesales, and sprint.com.

Many analysts have suggested that a price cut for the Pre was in order, though some may have wanted more. Clearly Pre sales haven’t hit the levels that Palm or Sprint had hoped, so hopefully the 25% price cut will spur some new sales, so long as there’s effective publicity to accompany the cuts.

I would assume other retailers, like Best Buy, will match this price as well?

I bought my Pre from BB on Saturday. They better give me the $50 or else I'll just return it.

that's too bad on the sales bit. I've been promoting the hell out of mine. all of my friend's want one.

this could be good in getting the sales of the pre up, maybe more developers will see this and release their apps for webos. but what about those of us that have supported the pre from the beginning...i find this an insult to us who have owned a pre for months now to drop the price 3 months after its release. i completely forgot about my mail in rebate and didnt get it off in time so i got stiffed on that 100 bucks. i love my pre and it was well worth what i have paid for it but i like to save money too...

That's pretty standard fare for technology.

Really? If you really cared about saving money then you would have mailed your rebate in.

Gonna call tomorrow and see if i can get credit for phone i brought for the wife just a week ago

It's interesting. I bought a pre on Sept 3, and I was expecting to lay out $299, and get the $100 rebate. Before I could finish paying, the manager came over and lowered the price to $249. I didn't ask why, just said thank you. I made it very clear that I was going to just be "trying out" the phone within the 30 day period. Maybe this is why the manager did it? If he knew that the price was going to drop, he may have lowered my price to match what he knew the final price would be by the end of my "trial period". I sure as hell would have brought it back for the difference. Good move on his part, I think I'll be keeping it. Goodbye, T-mo. ;)

Hmm...still within 30 days of buying it from best buy...might have to return it and go to the Sprint store...

Skip the Sprint store--just ask Best Buy to credit you the difference!

I also am within the 30 day return window, and was successful in getting them to credit me the $50 to my account. I just called them, and after a little back and forth and several "let me put you on hold while I look at this" they finally came back on the line with the "we are going to credit your account the $50."

The lady I was speaking to kept trying to tell me the $149.99 price was for a new 2nd line, but I was finally able to convince her it was the new price of the Pre for a new line or an eligible upgrade.

Just so you know, the $100 CREDIT FOR PORTING YOUR NUMBER IS NOW OFFICIALLY OVER, due to the price drop of the phone. The links have been removed from Sprint and other retailers.

This is huge, this is what I've been waiting for, I'm going to buy a Pre in the next couple of days.

I just purchased mine online on Friday 9/4, so I fully expect the extra 50 off per phone and will be calling tonight!

I just called my local sprint store where I bought my pre on Sept. 1st. They said that the store hasn't been given any direction on if they can credit the account, but said that Sprint told them that everyone who has bought a pre in the last 30 days can get that credit by calling customer service! Great news!

I called Sprint's customer service and the lady said that they cannot credit me the $50 (I bought my phone last saturday, the 5th of September). She told me to go to the store and check with them. I called CS again and the lady told me that they couldn't do that as well. I just sent an e-mail, and if they refuse again, I will continue to ask them until the credit is received. I understand if I bought the phone a few months ago, but a few days?

Just scored an additional instant $50 credit to my account. Bought my Pre on 25-Jul-09, and they were still kind enough to give me the additional credit. Being a premiere customer for 9+ years has it's advantages!

That's quite generous of them.

The price drop occurred the day after I purchased my phone. After a fairly strange conversation with the Sprint rep ("Jennifer", quite obviously sitting somewhere in India) the $50 credit was applied.

In one of the more bizarre exchanges we went back and forth for 10 minutes while she checked on the "user form" for the rebate (I'd clearly told her several times that I had noticed the rebate on a "user forum").

But it worked out in the end, and all-in-all she was very pleasant to deal with.

Message from Sprint via Chat - "I was researching your account and I do see that you upgraded, however, I did not see an order which is why I asked if you upgraded at a store. I see that you redeemed your $150 upgrade discount which would have made the price of the phone $299.99 before the mail in rebate. The phone is now $149.99 before the mail in rebate. I will be applying a credit of $50 to your account for the difference. I do apologize for any miscommunication."

Was a bit of a back and forth, but ended with my $50 credit.
I purchased my Pre on August 25th.

Just walked into Best Buy, luckily the same girl who sold me the phone was there again. She herself being a Pre user, knew which $50 I was talking about and I got a credit back to my card right away =D

Me and my husband only paid $149 for it and never had to wait for the mail-n-rebate, we just went to Best Buy and got the price instantly.
