Pre Plus, Pixi Plus officially coming to O2, Vodafone Germay April 28th 30

by Dieter Bohn Tue, 13 Apr 2010 9:45 am EDT

Billboards are one thing,  but when palm.com/de tells you that the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus are coming to Germany on April 28th, it's probably save to stop calling fake and start wondering when other GSM carriers in other countries can get in on the plus action. We're actually starting to wonder if there's something fundamentally Teutonic about webOS that can explain the love affair between Palm and the German people.

Actually, the bigger news is that O2 Germany will no longer have an exclusive on the device despite the fact that they've arguably tried harder than any other carrier on the planet to make the device a success - with great results. Anyhow, confirming rumors earlier this month, the Pre Plus is coming to Vodafone - in Germany anyway. Don't count out O2, however, as we hear that they intend on ensuring Telmap navigator will soon be available for webOS.

Again, it all goes down April 28th, which incidentally is the direction our morale is going as we wait for an actual, firm release date of the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on AT&T.

Update: if you love press releases, Palm has one for you.

Update 2: Title fixed (and yes, we're tired of this alliteration). Good news for UK webOS lovers: Electric Pig reports that O2 UK says it's coming.

Thanks to everybody who sent this in!

cool thing, I've been waiting for it since the american release of the pre plus ... palm, this really takes to much time
when it gets released in april, I can buy it for my birthday - woohoo what a cool present
I hope palm can fix that ... problems of rumors and the question of an new owner
If not in April, I have to buy another smartphone, because WebOS isn't developed to end and I want to have a phone with a garanty -> so palm hurry up

in deutsch kurz zusammengefasst:
hoffentlich wird das bald mit einem neuen Eigent

"Plus Plus, Pixi Plus officially coming to O2, Vodafone Germay April 28th"

What's a Plus Plus then? ha.

Was ist ein "Germay"?? (and this from a guy named "Dieter Bohn" no less!)

Haha, Can't believe I missed that one as well!

Looks like someone needs a strong coffee!

"Germay" New Country! Good palm needs all the countries it can reach right now, fictional or non-fictional.

New country? The PRE has been in Germany since October '09 if memory serves me correctly.

it will be a pre plus on April, 28th, propably one of the last devices Palm will have produced. So it will be an artifact for the museum of smartphones. Not too bad

As soon as that artifact is available for North American GSM networks, I'm going to buy one (now that chances of a new "halo" product in June are virtually non-existent)

cool now just bring it to UK please, don't care what carrier but some kind of nav application would be nice, thanks

I hope similar does not happen in the UK for purely selfish reasons. I ended my Vodafone contract early to move to O2 for the Pre so to have the Pre Plus available on Vodafone over here a mere six beta testing months or so after I moved would be a rather large kick in the teeth. For Palm and anyone waiting to adopt the platform it is great news.

People are so negative ! Bunch of spoilt brats !

Palms plans are solid and very very calculated. You will see a very intresting turn of events. Palm is a buisness not a toy factory, they make buisness solutions....
A new OS that is cutting edge and whipping the competition hands down....
Hardware is an issue and without a doubt will be looked at very seriously in the future....palm is not PRE Plus.... Palm is WEB OS ! Wake Up !

Wanna toy....get an iPhone !

Whipping how? In reviews? Take a glowing review and a nickel and see if you can buy a cup of coffee.

Many plastic toys are built tougher than the Pre.

It's a known fact that Web OS is the most advanced mobile OS to date....

Narrow minded Western Consumer mind set is such a joke !

At least Europe is awake to the productivity of Web OS

Yay! More Palm love for Germany :D

Am already proud owner of a Palm Pre from O2 Germay (lol) today. I am perfectly fine with the software, only the hardware quality seems to be ... well... say not so great :D

How is it with the Pre Plus in comparison to the original Pre? Is the slider more durable or is it also getting more shaky after some time of usage? What about the power button? Is it also going bad after some time like with the Pre?
I'd really like to know. As this is nothing you can quickly test in the shops, I'd really like to get an idea by someone who has had both phones for long term testing.

Thanks for your comments already :)

Fantastic! Fingers crossed for other countries with Vodafone or O2. But what about pricing?

Sweet! I'll be placing an order for a Plus Plus from Germay soon to replace my current German Pre..

This time I'll get a prepaid O2 or Vodafone card as well, with a couple of Euros on, and create a solid Palm Profile. I want all the apps! :)

North American HSPA please, Bell's CDMA network is horrible... it's ruining my phone experience!

Hope to see it in UK Vodafone soon too. Means more apps, more interest and advertising on the handset and the platform and more competition with droid and the i-turd.

Well done =) Now bring it to UK Voda and more European countries too.

well it is official, invitations have been sent to journalist for thelaunch of pixi + and jon rubinstein in person with the boss of sfr 0n 27 in paris so paris will take the shine come 27th!! i was elated but with the rumour of palm up for sale i have seconds thoughts about buying pixi i may go for iphone with a heavy heart all those years waiting fo pixi quelle domage!!

Reports coming in of confirmation of a UK launch:

http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/04/13/palm-pre-plus-and-pixi-confirmed...

I would love to have a Palm Pixi Plus! Any chance of an early upgrade or will i have to save some pennies or how about a business expense?

Dieter: re Update #2 - no, title not quite fixed yet, unless the launch really is in the Grand Duchy of Germay (Lichtenstein) and not in "GermaNy" at all....

Just spoke to o2 and they have confirmed that one of the pluses will be on its way but they said they havent got a date.

Now for those of us in the UK if you want it you will have to get a new contract and run it along side you current one or pay off your current contract to get the upgrade.

O2uk do have a recycle scheme but as of today the Pre will get you

Palm.... what happens with Spain?. I'm waiting for my Pre Plus.
Come On!!!

Sprint in America is waiting too

Finally, a Pre Plus f

Finally 2 launches at the same time, now if these launches come to AT&T and SFR together with O2 and Vodafone for the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, that would be a home run.

Finally I can get my girlfriend the Pixi in the UK, just hope it is coming end of April like the others. I think it's a good move by Palm, but it needs the marketing to go with it. I like the Pixi advert and think it could be played across Europe too.

I love my Pre, but I don't understand why anyone would purchase it at this point?

There has been no guarantee that WebOS would be developed further, considering that they are planning on selling the company. The purchase could be just for the patent portfolio and not WebOS itself, which would live all of us with a pretty good phone, but no future support on the OS.

I don't see why any carrier would want to sell the phone at this point.
