UPDATE: In yet another stunning upset, the Palm Pre Plus has toppled the BlackBerry Bold 9700! And by the slimmest of slim margins, too. Out of 25,263 ballots cast, the Pre Plus topped the Bold by just 91 votes, securing 50.2% of the vote. A narrow victory that was duked out until the very end, but a victory nonetheless. Up next: The HTC HD2. Bring it.
The Pre Plus is hanging on in Laptop Mag's March Madness, but a huge number of PreCentral readers have let us know that this week it's up against the CrackBerry nation's BlackBerry Bold 9700. If you're interested in seeing the Pre Plus repeat last week's upset of the Nexus One, hie thee hence and vote.

The EVO 4G is not part of LaptopMag.com's March Smart Phone Madness. Neither the release date nor the price have been announced.
It hasn't been reviewed by anyone, yet. All it is specs on a page and fleeting hands-on videos at the CTIA conference.
Nexus one doesnt have that many user's. Everybody has a crapberry. They are buy one get four free and they are like 25 cents. We need more votes!! Tweet about it.

Because perhaps I fell for the Pre hype. But I'm just waiting for the EVO to be released. Don't get me wrong, the Pre is a nice little phone, but it's just not something I want to continue using or carrying around, especially once the EVO 4G is launched.
If you're getting the Evo, wouldn't the Pre be closer to the same specs of the Evo than a blackberry would?

I love my pre, but come on they been screwing us for months now with this flash shit and so on, so when the EVO do come out I'll be the first in line, and what a smack in the face to us sprint customers that were here from day 1 coming out on some other freakin carrier with the pre and pixi plus,
Now if Sprint would get around to rolling out 4G to my area I's consider the EVO, but for the next year (probably more) the Pre will make the most sense for me.

Again, if you read the article, you'd think the Crackberry is the best thing since sliced bread & T-Mobile makes it that much better. Again, they try to rip on the Palm Pre (Plus). Amazing bias built in to the survey.

It's pretty much inevitable that Blackberry is going to win. As individual BB model users see their models lose, they'll inevitably vote for the other BB models, until the numbers are overwhelming.

Seriously, the HD2 runs WinMob Classic, or whatever MS is now calling it. It is guaranteed to never receive an OS update. The HD2 is doomed to be the exact same device from the day the first one booted up to the day when the last one shuts down. Depressing.

I'm an avid webOS enthusiast. I've been tinkering with my Pre since a couple weeks after launch day. I know it's fun to band together and feel like you're helping an underdog cause. But .. a serious question: How many of you have actually used the Blackberry Bold 9700? I like to think my Pre and webOS are the best thing out there at the moment, but honestly, I can't really say that I know that. And all this blatant talk of vote-rigging is kinda disgusting, even though all sides will be doing it. Maybe I'm just too old (26) for this stuff. *sigh*
I completely agree with you. This is disgusting and we are only fooling ourselves into thinking the Pre has such a huge fan base.
The whole poll is a joke! 1) You don't think crackberry guys are doing the same thing? 2) if it were an honest poll, do you think the pollster would write such biased articles?
It is more a poll of the enthusiasm of the community than it is of the phone. No big deal, IMO. It is just a childish game since the writer chose sides.
If you want Palm to survive and you love webOS, you should have done whatever it takes.
I have used a multitude of blackberries.
While efficient at getting the job done, that's all they do.
Battery life is superb but the OS is easy to leave.
When you're on a Pre, you don't want to go to a non-gesture/non-swipe/non-touchscreen phone.
The bold isn't bad, but it isn't THAT great. The Pre is feature packed and now can do a lot of things that it could not do back when it was released.
Also, the way the Pre is being updated... it's good to know that a company is avidly working for the user. (not that RIM does not, but Palm is a small company releasing many updates).
That's been my experience to with the BBs I've used... And I'm with you on Palm. My point was just that I suspect the vast majority of the voters on all sides for this "contest" haven't actually used the things they're voting against.
I haven't personally used the Bold, but hundreds of attorneys and staff at my firm use them, and my experience with them is that they suck, like all Blackberrys.
I don't think informing the community that they can vote is vote-rigging. Especially since most people here actually own a Pre they have every "right" to go and vote for it.
Besides, it's only vote rigging if you vote using your phone, desktop, laptop, netbook, your buddies phone, all your coworkers desktops, posting to vote for pre in your facebook status, and setting up a bot to vote and change your IP address between votes.
See, I have a static IP on my connection so I'm not vote-rigging... :-p

First off, at 26 you're only too old for pony rides and that's about it. I'm 37 and feel perfectly fine about voting from my phone and each of my computers. And while at my parents' house today I voted from their computer, too. This is among the many reasons why internet polls can never claim to be scientific.
Further, LaptopMag.com knows the overwhelming majority of users will have never used the competing device. The very fact that these polls still exist makes it perfectly okay to trump your device when you know squat about the other.

In so far as i can tell, it doesnt seem to count your vote more than once. After voting, if you try again it says "we have all ready counted your vote, thank you" above the poll.
I tested it and opened two windows, selected the same one, clicked both buttons and had the same results on both windows (i had voted previously), so it seems that anyone who is "voting multiple times" is likely just wasting their time :P
