Pre Pops Up on Palm's UK Site 16

by Brian Hart Fri, 20 Feb 2009 5:57 pm EST

If you are in the UK, it's time to ratchet up the excitement about the coming Palm Pre, given that the Pre has just popped up on Palm's UK website. Even though the picture is the CDMA model, the fact it's made an appearance on the UK site is a very good sign that a GSM model is on the way soon. Those of you anxiously awaiting the new Palm Pre with its slick webOS interface, are you excited yet? Does the appearance of the Pre on Palm's UK website mean that a GSM Pre is coming very, very soon?

I am really looking forward to the release and i am possibly obsessed by this phone definitely an I-phone killer for sure but for only those who know what they are looking for!
Bring it to the UK Palm please!

It has been posted on the dutch Palm site ever since the pre was announced.

"Does the appearance of the Pre on Palm's UK website mean that a GSM Pre is coming very, very soon?"

-- I hope a CDMA pre comes "very, very soon" :)

Pre was listed on the Hong Kong website since the CES announcement also. Local regulations dictate that all phones sold in HK are carrier-free/unlocked (we can buy iPhone direct from Apple HK store) so I can't wait for it to be released here.. and its GSM too. :)

That's fantastic news. I was worried that even if a GSM version was released I may still not be able to import it, as it would probably be locked (and it will take time for people to unlock them). But if it's being sold in HK then it could be possible to import it from there and not have to worry about it being locked! :-)

Only downside is that it might be in Chinese with no option to change to English. Could probably get by (if I studied my Chinese really intensively), but would be annoying.

No worries, most of the electronic products selling in HK are in English rather than in Chinese. I got my treo 680 without Chinese software in HK.

Interesting to note that it hasn't shown up on the Mainland China site though...

In Hong Kong too... http://www.palm.com/hk/ie/

A question :

In the past, when Palm present a new phone on the website, how long before availability it was???

It's actually now on the Australian website as well! Hope that means they haven't forgotten us down here too!

I am sure it's been there since CES as well. Bring it on!

And the NZ one!

Yeah, I'm liking the look of that too.

It showed up on the german site ever since CES as well. No news at all.

All these sightings... have any of them happened for country sites where the carriers use 850 or 1900 mHz? (Other than the US, that is.) Since many Latin American carriers use those frequencies too, and possibly some elsewhere, that would count against this claim that the GSM Pre will only have dual-band HSPA. Or it would mean that Palm has 2 GSM versions ready.

And if not, that would point to a more staggered worldwide rollout.
