Pre ranked amongst the 10 most brilliant products of 2009 24

The Pre has made its way into PopularMechanic's "10 Most Brilliant Products of 2009", being grouped with some rather innovative products like Nikon's camera and pico projector combination and an unusually efficient wind turbine.

Here's what they had to say about the Pre:

The Palm Pre (which costs $200 with a contract from Sprint) doesn’t break ground with any one engineering advance. Instead, it sets a new standard by putting all the best available technologies together. Most cellphones—even high-end ones—excel at some tasks, while utterly ignoring others. The Palm Pre’s features read like a gadget geek’s wish list: optional inductive charging, a full keyboard, the ability to sync with iTunes—and it can run multiple applications at once. Sometimes more is more.

Checklist: Inductive charging? Check. Hardware keyboard? Check. Intuitive multitasking? Check. iTunes Sync? Check.

There's just one thing wrong with that write-up: the Pre is currently selling for $149.99 on contract with Sprint.

The Palm Pre definitely deserves it.

Just one more reason I feel good about my choice of buying the Pre. Now I know I'm brilliant.

+1 again for the Pre...wait...Apple IPhone 3GS didnt make the top 10...hahahahhaha

I'm a proud owner of a Pre. And I've never bought any Apple product so far. But I respect a lot of work Apple does. There is no denying the central role of iPhone in the smartphone revolution. Few can achieve a better synergy of technology and art like Apple does it. No doubt Palm has made excellent contributions in the past and with Pre they have reinforced their position as one of the pioneers in this field. I am very excited to see more of webOS and Pre going forward.

Yesssssssss the Palm Pre definitely deserves it...This the the best phone ever. Good work palm

Sweet ass sweet! Long live the PALM PRE!

that's funny itunes sync....I guess we should be glad that they keep fighting for the itunes sync.

itunes sync? check (again tomorrow)

Hmmm, where is the iPhone 3Gs on that list? And was the iPhone ever on the list a few years ago?

Come November I'll be a part of the Palm Pre and WebOS community..I can't wait.

One question, though. When I do pick up my Pre will the phone be updated out of the box or will I have to download all of the updates since release date in June?

Thanks to anyone who can answer!

Maybe, but I doubt you will have to download all the updates since June. It just depends on when your pre was built and what version of the the software was loaded on the completion of the build. So if it was built today and given the 1.2.1 update. Then no updates will be required. At least that is how I understand it.

Congratulations Palm- but i think WebOS is the reason for the praise, more so than the Pr

Pre FTW.

Its an amazing phone, and everyone knows!

Congratulations Palm- but i think WebOS is the reason for the praise, more so than the Pr

I love that wind turbine. Where can I gets me one? I'll check Home Depot later today. =O

Amaaaazing! I knew there was a reason I said this is the first phone I ever truly loved. Its just amazing how everything works right. Congrats to Palm for this achievement.

Kudos to Palm!

Wow....u pre fanboys just always have to try and diminish the iPhone in order to make yourselves look good, huh? Act like u been there before! And btw, the iPhone is tops on the only list that matters: SALES! Where's the pre on THAT list????
