Pre vs. Storm: Verizon Internal Document Smackdown (Part Deux) 9
As AT&T did before them, Verizon is circulating a document internally comparing the Storm to the Palm Pre. The whole 4 page mess was leaked to our pals over at CrackBerry.com and while we can't say we disagree with any of Verizon's data points, we can say that they're going a long way towards not, erm, accentuating the positive.
We will say that quite a few of the "no" entries Verizon has put in can and will be addressed either by 3rd party software or by Palm itself. Whenever Sprint's exclusivity runs out, we're betting big V will be circulating a document with a slightly different take on the whole thing.

Yeah baby.... The pre rocks!!! They are so jealous. They won't be getting it anytime soon. Mr Hesse will make sure of that.
VM and ATT take the all the features that 90% of consumers don't care about and acts like the one day old Pre won't be able to do these! All of these features can be added via firmware updates. BTW, Sprint's network is faster and more reliable than VZ's!!
I think is good for Sprint that this document has leaked because it WILL be used by Sprint to train its staff in how to answer all these no's when customers ask them.
what - can't be used as a modem? Why?
I mean the apps we make up in weeks, if they stop hiding the sdk - but - no modem :(
This was already known. An early Sprint web page said the Pre could tether, but it didn't last.
And people think Verizon is getting the Pre?... That document suggests otherwise.
Gadgeteers don't buy a phone for was it is at the moment, but what it will be in the future.
The iPhone today is much better than it was when it launched; there was hardly anything in the apps store, etc., and it took off subsequently (although quite frankly, most apps as not very useful.)
WebOS will be huge - just wait - developments will be lower, and developers will start cranking out all sorts of good stuff (without the Apple Police censoring)
My girlfriend and I went otu gadget hunting tonight. She wanted a BlackBerry, I wanted a Pre. We ended up on the highway with a Sprint store on one side, a Verizon store on the other. We went into the Verizon store simply because we saw it first, and it was later in the evening.
After taking a good look at the Blackberry Storm, and putting it throught its paces, I came away firmly convinced that I wanted a Pre.
The Storm might have the features mentioned above, but it's a bear to get to them. The pressable surface, which at first sounded like a good idea to me (to give the keyboard tactility), but the problem is, I found myself not knowing when I should touch and when I should press. Maybe you can edit documents on the Storm, but I certainly wouldn't want to try it.
I'm more convinced then ever that I should get a Pre - maybe even before my AT&T contract ends.
I think they forget that consumers are intelligent and research their intended purchases. That's why I do not have an iphone or Blackberry. Palm may have created a platform that will grow and grow. Just think in 2 years time the Pre will not be the top end phone for Palm. I cannot wait to see what that phone will be but they can certainly focus on design of the phone because the platform is well thought out. Good Luck. Still waiting in the UK but please do not go to O2, Vodafone more highly rated. I think exclusivity is unfair to the consumer.
