Seeing http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-SEALED-HP-TOUCHPAD-16GB-Wi-Fi-9-7-READY-SHIP... on ebay this morning made me furious. So many people are trying to get one and have seen their orders cancelled while others got a ton of them and are price-gouging. So I tweeted @BrynaAtHP and @RichardKerris requesting that when the HP store starts selling them again, they should restrict the number that people can buy to something reasonable. Even if they just did this for the first 24 hours, say, that would be a big help. I realize you can't totally fix the problem. If some jerk wants to have an entire office of staff order touchpads one at a time, HP can't prevent it. But at least ordinary consumers would have more of a chance.
I hope they do that soon. My contract is up in 2 weeks and I'm ready to smash my pre into 10,000 pieces. I can't take the lag anymore. My pre has been very unreliable. I saw something I needed to take a picture of, by the time the camera finished loading i missed my opportunity. I want to drop kick someone in the mouth for getting me addicted to WebOS then not coming out with new hardware that can compete with everything else that's out there now.
Posted by bjbiggens on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 5:45 pm EDT
I know how you feel I'm still on the original Pre as well. I was getting excited for the pre 3, and now I guess I'll have to hope there'll be a phone that can fill the void since it looks like there wont be anymore webos phones.

I feel the same way. I had friend tell me his coworker was trying to sell a 32GB model for 250$, I told him he could keep it. I would pay 500$ for a new Ipad before I support what is basically scalping.
Possible jerks - but certainly not stupid.
HP prized the firesale so ridiculously low that everybody and their grannies could see that a quick buck could be made there.
I forced nobody to buy my Touchpad on ebay. I just set up the auction and let those who wanted it bad enough bid the price up. That's what I call freedom of choice. I made a small profit, and the person who bought it got it for a lot less than what the original price was, ebay and paypal made money. It's a win-win for a lot of us. How does that make us jerks?

I ordered from Office Depot early Saturday (8/20) morning, got an order confirmation and had the status from my order change to "Shipped". They called me today and told me they couldn't find one for me and made me come into the store to get my refund. If I had known there wouldn't be any, I would have just gone to the store in person.

I ordered mine from BestBuy.ca a day later I receive an email requesting I call a 1-800 number 'cause there was a problem with my payment. They could not process my credit card because my billing address did not match my mailing address. Here's the kicker they are both the same. The next day I get another email saying they will not charge my credit card and that they were out of stock. So no touchpad for me from BestBuy. I had to go the ebay route.

I ordered my 32GB on the 8/20 via HP Small Business web site and they shipped to me. However, they charged $499 plus tax to my credit card. I have been trying to contact via phone and email all week but no luck getting through. They said on the website and phone message that they will honor the price but it looks like it's going to take awhile before I got my refund. I also signed up for notification on their web site, I might get another one when the next batch comes out.

Paid full price for mine @ JR.com. They aren't giving the HP refund to their customers & I'm past their return date. I told them they would get no more of my business & their response was they dont care.
I managed to order one from OnSale Sunday afternoon and it showed up today. I know people got some of their orders cancelled but thats no reason to declare jihad. What are they supposed to do, create new stock via magic?

If HP wanted to require customers have any version of the Pre to qualify for purchase of a Touchpad at the fire sale prices, I've got my non-active AT&T Pre Plus still. I keep checking and hoping the status will change from "OUT OF STOCK" back to "Coming Soon" or better yet, "Available". I want a Touchpad but I'm not paying scalped prices from Ebay or anywhere else. The moment these things become available, I want one.

I purchased the Bible Reader KJV from the HP Touchpad Catalog and the content's size is for a cell phone. This should not be advertised for a Touchpad since the application has not been developed to support the screen for a Touchpad. The Touchpad is 7.5 X 9.5 inches and the Bible's verses are in a screen as small as 2 x 4 inches. This is shameful!!!
Simple Bible and Simple Bible Pro both display full screen on the TouchPad. I have used Simple Bible for a long time on my Pre "Classic" and recently purchased Pro for the TouchPad. You have to register with Laridian's Bible store to get the bibles on Pro, but the KJV is free there are more translations available for purchase.

HP is completely ridiculous! I ordered 10 32gb touchpads (not to scalp). I waited over an hour in line at best buy with 6 of my friends only to have them tell the 50+ people who were waiting that they only had 3 on hand. So I went home, ordered the touchpads for all my friends from the HP small business site. They sent me a confirmation and charged my CC for them. The charges appeared until this morning and when I called they told me my order was cancelled because it had not processed! I ordered at 10:40am on Sunday and their site clearly says any orders made before 4am Monday morning would be fulfilled. The representative then told me I could try and re-order them if they sell them again on the HP site. I've gone through 3 pre's, and HP laptop and 2 desktops in the past. If this isn't rectified I think I'll be finding a different manufacturer.

because you bought 10. I don't care if you were planning on scalping or not, this was likely seen as profile pointing to this activity. If you had bought a reasonable amount you would have it by now. This will likely be the case for the next fire sale. You will only be able to buy so many per order. If you buy to many, the orders will be canceled.
I bought mine on July 7 for 599.00 - 50.00 make it right credit - 50.00 promo code credit - refund from Hp shopping to bring original price to 149.99 = 49.99 for a 32GB touchpad. For once early adoption has paid off.
I had an onsale order cancelled. I went to best buy too. I missed out so far. I will not buy from these scalpers yet. I am waiting on the email from HP when have the next batch ready.

HAA HAA HAA I went to best buy to pick up a cd and saw a short line at the pick up area.... found out that it was for the touchpad sale, bought one in ten min and was out the door in 15, hahaha just thought ide rub it in your face, BTW I wrote this post with my touchpad! ;-)

Has anyone had it go as far as charges to appear on your credit card and then the charges reversed and the order cancelled? That's the thing that really makes me wonder about what HP is doing. You'd think if they were out of touchpads their website would not be allowing orders to go through and charging people's credit cards.
Posted by PreDogs on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 11:15 pm EDT
Might be seeing the pre-approval on the CC. Real charges cant be "canceled", they can only be offset with credits. Pre-approvals expire and disappear from your account summary.

i was in line at my local best buy this morning for one of the 70 they had got in. missed out again. it was obvious that many were just buying to resell. most didnt even know that webos had been around longer than the tp... got some strange looks when i pulled out my pre+. this just sucks. i agree with some previous comments about having previous webos products to be able to buy a touchpad. after all the bs we've been fed by hp since they took over.
what is the deal with the 'second fire sale' anyway, is it ever gonna happen? sounds like just one more load of bs.

Still no change on the HP Website (OUT OF STOCK). I'm not going to drive around town wasting gas hoping to find one of these things and I'm not paying more than fire sale prices for a product that's discontinued. If HP coughs them up at fire sale prices on their website, I'll get one. If not, I'll wait until someone makes a Tablet I want at a price I'm willing to pay.
I'm jealous that so many people have been able to get touchpads and I haven't. How dare people try to make money off of this. HP isn't making any money and neither should anyone else! HP are the ones who made the touchpad. I don't think its fair. I'd rather buy a touchpad from HP at the original $500 than pay one dollar more than the firesale price on ebay. Those people are dispicable. We are in hard economic times, trying to make a profit off of people who are less fortunate. I spit in your direction!
I want a touchpad and I think that the next stimulus package President Obama hands out is to HP so that they can continue making the touchpad. I also think that people like me on welfare should get on for free. I already got a free cell phone, now I need a free tablet.

Or HP is just playing us to inflate demand then open up the floodgates. Maybe they just tested this with a small number to see if we'd all bite. Having seen that, they're just artificially inflating demand then boom. Drop them on us at the same or slightly higher prices. They'll probably add $100 onto the fire sale prices just to see how many people will bite.

I obsessively searched around for one of the elusive TPs because I was out of town when the fire sale started. Like many, I would strike at any deal I could find only to have my order cancelled. I eventually settled on trying my local BBs in the hopes that I would be lucky. I was able to find an employee who told me that a shipment was likely to arrive later in the day on Thursday, so I went up there after work, got in line, and was able to get a 16gb version with the last keyboard they had in stock at half off. I have one on order from a local computer shop who was able (they said) to secure one from their distributor but that one will not get here until around Sept. 19th, if at all (who knows until you have it in your hands).
I would have loved to be a part of the pre community, but my phone upgrades did not coincide with their releases.

like many, I couldn't get one
Stupid jerks are selling them for 2.5x the price on ebay :(
I prefer dont have a touchpad that make these jerks make profit
On the bright side, at least the profits aren't going to HP after they killed the platform.
Still only half the price of what HP was charging their initial adopters.

How about this: in order to buy one in the (hopefully) next round, you have to show the salesperson your Pre :) No Pre = No Sale.

Your just all a bunch of communists calm down and let people use capitalism to their advantage!
i was gonna try and get my hands on more if i can find them. so that i could sell them to people that actually what one but i couldnt.

Sounds like capitalism at it's finest!
David...
Not much of a profit when the cost to build is a couple hundred. HP is taking a loss... in more ways than one.
Luv the PreDoodle by the way... I think he captures what the WebOS community has felt, rage, excitement, overwhelmed and confusion! Well drawn!
Agreed!
Best PreDoodle EV. AR....

Since the Pre 3 not coming to the States. Could HP make the existing Pre 2 have the ability to Touch 2 Share?
This would really help the carriers move inventory at regular price when people knows that they can use the feature with the pre 2.
