Yep. Sucks huh? Best OS ever and they spit on it. We'll see if it ever gets revived! Open sourcing it was its last chance and its not looking too good.
man, this sucks. Never came across a OS like this before and was wowed from day one back in 09; im still wowed by it today! It really sucks such an awesome platform is being treated this a way!(damnit.) :(
I'm not discouraged yet. Open source IS the right solution in the long run. I'm a survivor of the UNIX wars of the '70's and '80's. Those battles ended with Linux, giving us the various distros, iOS, Android and WebOS! The only other OS to survive from that era was DEC's VMS, reborn as the foundation for Windows NT etc.
Good ideas don't die, they evolve. Open source offers many opportunities for real growth.
Not discouraged? WebOS / Palm has just gone the way of Atari and Commodore - especially the Amiga - a product ahead of its time that just didn't make it and a company that created a whole marketplace such as smartphones that couldn't keep up. Are you discouraged as I am now?

WebOS' good ideas are already evolving elsewhere.
HTML5-heavy OSes (e.g. iOS, Windows 8), cards for fast app-switching (e.g. Windows Phone, Android 4.0), swipeable notifications (Android 4.0), contact integration (several different OSes), and so on and so forth.
I guess if you have to see these all in one place, there's always the Blackberry 10 phone coming late next year. But they are pretty much on the exact same downward spiral trajectory that HPalm was (sharply discounted tablets gathering dust, delayed phones sparking little to no excitement, turmoil in the executive boardroom, plummeting stock prices).....

This time last year we were wondering why they weren't going to be at CES then found out they were having a separate gig. I and my family have moved on to the Sprint Galaxy 2 Epic Touch 4g and Samsung Nexus phones and have not looked back. We still have our Webos Touchpads. sigh....
I got the Epic 4g Touch last week too. Have you got the wireless tether working? I got it rooted properly last night but the tether did not work. Maybe I got the wrong version. The OS fragmentation is frustrating. So is the user interface but ICS will be pushed to it soon. I am also really not liking the virtual keyboard but the speech to text helps a LOT when texting. No WIFI tether would be a deal breaker that would force me to go back to the Pre though. My wife got it too and is not looking back like you either.

Aw, poor WebOS. I bought a Touchpad in the firesale and ever since I've been loving my WebOS. I installed cyanogenmod just to check it out but I like WebOS better so I rarely boot Android. Hopefully being open source will breathe some new life into it and if not hopefully other companies will copy the great things like cards from it.

so sad... I was a rep for Palm Pre. Had my new demo pre well before launch, sworn to secrecy so the new device wouldn't get leaked. So exciting! We loved webOS so much... Worked thru Sprint then Version and then AT&T. Still using my original Sprint Pre :-) I can't use another phone... Just can't. They all can't compete with webos... I'm still not sure if I want a European ATT Pre 3 or USA ATT pre 3 .... Ahhh we had so much fun ... Sooo sad
All I ask is, where is Rubinstein in all the disaster that happened!? We have not heard from him on any of this! He took a nice VP job in HP and to limbo with Palm?? He is to blame for all this for throwing Palm to this HP wolves!

Such a cool beginning...such a sad ending...what a wasted opportunity.

And a wild roller coaster ride at that!
A roller coaster that was 90% lift hill, and never reached the loop see saw while waiting in line to ride.
*sigh* :'(
Don't make me cry...:(
