Quick App: clearview 12

by Adam Marks Thu, 18 Aug 2011 11:32 am EDT

While you can customize the wallpaper of your Touchpad, you rarely get to actually see it since there are usually cards blocking your view. Although there are numerous applications for webOS phones that will essentially copy your wallpaper into its own card to give the impression of seeing through it, none existed for the TouchPad until today with the release of clearview by fxspec06. For 99 cents, you can now have an application that will allow you to see your background whenever you like. Although the screenshots in the app catalog show the app in card view giving the illusion that you are seeing through the card to the background, I was not able to replicate that perfectly. If the image was less than the TouchPad's 1024x768, it showed the entire image within the clearview card with a gray border around it, and if the was greater or equal to 1024x768 it would zoom in just a little too much. While it may not work perfectly, at least you now have a way to easily show off your background image.

Note that if you use a wallpaper switching app, clearview will not automatically update while in card view. You will need to make it the active app before it updates.

That is the most disturbing wallpaper I have ever witnessed.

Nice to see Advanced Browser in that quicklaunch bar!

I don't see the point. Even if its only 99 cents, that's a lot for, quite literally, nothing.

Really. I seem to recall that there was an app for the Pre which did the same thing. It had a 0.99 cent Pro version with more features. But if all you wanted was a transparent card, the basic version was free.

I was planning on adding features, but I heard that people wanted it now, so I released it now.. why don't you make a TP version and release it then? I don't see anyone else with a clearcard app out there.

So don't buy it.

Hmmm... front page? Hoorah!

I'll be updating it soon, adding auto refresh and perfecting the pixels.

Looks like there's a special case or two that I overlooked.

Thanks for the article, Adam!

Yes I want the wallpaper! =)

Ok, I grew up with Voltron (among TF and GI Joe) and I love webOS but this is when you know you've gone too far...

There are hundreds of good apps out there and precentral brings a review about such silly stuff. Shame on you!

I'm amused by a review of something that gives you .. nothing. BUt a useful nothing! haha
