I have had a Palm Pre for quite sometime now but I am just now about to buy my first app.
Do they allow you to download the actual ipk for backup on your computer?
You don't need to download the actual ipk for backup. Your app purchases are tied to your Palm account, so if you ever lose all your apps or need to transfer to a new Palm phone, you can just download the apps again.
No, but every app installed on your device is reinstalled if you lose it. Note: you lose the application's data. :/

I am well aware of the site you are referring to, but I can assure you I do not and have not uploaded anything. Nor would I upload anything I paid for myself.
The Save/Restore app will back up app your data as well to the USB partition on your phone. It's up to you to copy that from your phone to your PC periodically. It supports most of the popular apps.
So if you lose your phone, Palm will automatically restore the apps, and you can then reinstall the Save/Restore app to restore your data.

Two words.."console quality". This game rocks completely and is PERFECT on the Pre.
I'm a long time fan of the Ace Combat series and this is right in line. Graphics are amazing, great sound, precise controls, and a decent story.

How is this any different than the regular non-HD version?
It's not. I started with the normal version, then the upgrade downloaded a week or so ago changed it to HD. It's the same version number as the app catalog entry. Same thing happened with Asphalt 5 HD.
It probably is different. My guess is they are using the iPhone4 resolution now (since it scales down and provides better quality graphics AND makes it easier to support both platforms).
This game was a bargain during the half price sale. Now it's a steal.
btw. H.A.W.X. and H.A.W.X. HD are identical, I think. If you have hawx the apps store won't let you buy hawx hd.

For .99, I will definitely buy it. However, just so you know, the "modern jet fighters" you mentioned are both retired. F-14 1st deployed in early 70s ('74, I think) & was retired in 2006. The F-117 deployed in early 80s & was retired in 2008.

Its a BIG file so download takes a while, similar to other 3D games
It is my 1st 3d game--it has been almost 30 minutes! It is through w/the download & doing the install now. Just finished--just over 30 minutes.
For some perspective, Angry Birds is a 37.75MB download, while H.A.W.X. is a 209.59MB download. Even Assasin's Creed is only a 116.49MB download.
Wow ... been downloading 45 min so far. No wonder it takes so long.
Its a hard game, I finished it, it is hard to keep the plane aligned a lot of times. Still doable. Remember recommended plane is not always the best plane and while hitting the carriers 3-5 bombs kill one and its better to kill one carrier than to wound 5 of them. Always better to change your plane to see what you need like drop bombs for land tanks.
Virtual stick is way better than accelerometer. In the above picture I would have used a plane with multiple AA bombs to kill multiple planes with one single shot before they go out of focus.
Maybe I'm just being pedantic, but I chuckled when I read that you can fly "modern jet fighters, including the F-14A Tomcat, F-117 Nighthawk." Both aircraft have been retired from service to be replaced by newer aircraft (the Super Hornet in the case of the Tomcat, and the F-22 and F-35 in the case of the F-117), with the Tomcat's last service in 2006 and the F-117's in early 2008. :)

Question: I haven't used games which allow for multi-player options over WiFi, before. How does it work? Are all of the options/set up features within the application (I would assume so)?

The quality of this game is incredible for the price. If you don't have it, you need to get it. It's only on sale for 1 week.
Can't go wrong for $1.04. This game is fun. A nice break from trying to get three stars on every level of Angry Birds.

The only problem that I found was trying to sneak in some playing time at work...haha...I just wish there was a way to save your progress w/o having to finish a level or pausing it (does having the card open kill the battery??)
