Quick App: PDFMyWeb 14
We've all been there: we're about to enter an area with bad or no cell phone service, and we need access to a web page that has important information such as directions or a map. Currently, the browser in webOS is incapable of saving a webpage for offline viewing, and open browser cards will often times force a refresh of the page if left alone for too long.
The solution? PDFMyWeb ($0.99 in the App Catalog), a lightweight utility that captures web pages and saves them as a PDF file for offline viewing. The process is simple - type the desired URL into field, tap 'Get PDF,' and a PDF of the desired website is created in about a minute. The result is PDF file with highly-readable resolution-independent text and all the images on the page. In the case of the PreCentral front page, that PDF came to 1.5MB and six pages long.
Sure, one could simply perform a screenshot (opt + sym + p ) of the desired information for later viewing, but the advantage of PDFMyWeb is that it captures the entire webpage in one fell swoop, and that's convenience worth paying for.

meh
a great idea - think of the battery life that can be saved by just referencing a capture of a webpage, rather than using modem/wifi
how about that 'meh'
Wow, NICE!
Also just thinking about it again, screen shots are a possibility if needed. I know it won't capture the full page depending how long, but you can take as many screen shots as needed! Just a tip ;)
Is the PDF generated by the Pre or is the URL sent to a server which translates it? Based on the Download bar, my guess is the latter. I don't like this from a security perspective.
meh... I'm almost quite positive that they send it to a server, like:
http://pdfmyurl.com/
It has trouble with sites that are XHTML strict. I pointed this out to the developer and I think they'll fix it in the next release.
what's (opt??+sym+p) ?? How do you make screenshot on palm pre?
opt + sym + p is how you take a screen shot on WebOS. Press all 3 keys at once. opt is the little button on bottom left of your device. It's orange on original Pre (Sprint) gray on pixi and on Pre Plus (VZW). It doesn't do anything, you won't even notice anything when you push all 3 together. But then go into your photos, and under photo roll and downloads, you will see a new line/folder called screen shots. Look in there, and its your screen shot. It is only what is on the screen, does NOT save full webpage, which is where this App comes in. If you ever look at Themes or in forums and people have pics of the screen of their WebOS device, this is how they do it.
Guys, I have done this for a long time and for free. Also the PreCentra.Com becomes 8 pages and 900Kb which is 60% of the reported size (note we are comparing something to something which could yield anything).
How did I do that? I pasted the http:www.precentral.com into the http://www.html-to-pdf.net/free-online-pdf-converter.aspx online URL to PDF converter.
thanks. I never did but I maybe start now
it's a kool app, worth the .99 cents!
Is it me or are the PDF's generated so large it locks up the phone? Totally unusable. Esp. since these pdfs scroll over way to much. Thats if the pdf even loads on the Pre.
Ohh wow that's so good!So where can i get this app downloaded ?And its cost is also affordable so i can have it.
