While Sprint webOS users get to play around with Sprint TV, webOS users on other networks aren’t blessed with the same televised goodness. A new free app, SPB TV, aims to change that, by bringing more than one hundred live and on-demand channels to webOS from more than seventeen countries.
Not only do you get all the aforementioned television on your phone, you also get it with an integrated program guide for most channels and picture-in-picture browsing. SPB TV even features quality scaling to adapt to the variable bandwidth of Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Check out the video above for an idea of how it all works.

I keep wanting this app to be awesome, but it just hasn't worked well so far. I found a channel of children's programming that I thought would be great for the kids, but it never showed video, just audio. Also, for the channels that did work properly, the "scalable" quality always scales to "low," even on WiFi on my 7 Mb cable connection at home. I try it again with each update, but I am underwhelmed so far.
Just checking,but you did try the toggle button that switches between Low & High quality did you ?
I'm on 2mb wifi/ADSL and it goes High for me.

just downloaded and launched Fox11 (LA) and was greeted by a PreCentral.net Advertisement :)
Quality was no worse than Sprint TV and maybe even a bit better.
BTW, I am on wifi and switched to HIGH quality and the biggest difference was the quality of the audio.
How do you switch between HIGH and LOW quality?
Tap the screen while the video is playing and then tap the middle icon which switch you between low and high.
Ah, Thanx..., that would make sense. Unfortunately, my video never load ups as it's stuck on the Ad splash screen with the right upper corner stuck at displaying "Buffering" continuously. To note FYI, to tap during the Ad, a menu shows up at the bottom middle displaying both "Open in a Browser" and "Cancel channel opening" as choices.
Anyone know why it would be stuck at buffering? (I'm on wifi-mode.)

good idea, bad execution. I'm in a good 3G service area and I could hardly get anything to load... Or was it loaded and off the air? Some channels said if it was on commercial or off the air the screen wil be black... Which is exactly what I see when it's loading!! Not to mention I get to watch about 5 seconds of fox before I realized it was just a weather radar. After having the app open for about 5 mins trying to get a picture I gave up to find this thing hammered my battery from 89% to 75%!! Eeeek! No thanks! (oh, and the pre was hotter than hell btw)

Yep. Came here to post the same thing. Makes the app useless for me. Which is a shame, because it gives access to some content that interests me.
Just checked SprintTV, because I wasn't sure, but it works fine over A2DP.

I downloaded this & was on the FOX LA page, then my Pre froze, after about 1 min, the screen went pink, then the phone shut down. It wouldn't start back up, so I popped the back open & pulled the battery. When I try to restart it, it's just stuck on that screen where it just has "Palm" in the middle of the screen. It's not going anywhere.
Please advise what I should do? run webosdoctor? I don't even have my USB cable here at work...
Any other advice? Thanks!
This app brought down my Pre hard, as well. Shut down, black screen and would not respond to any button presses, power/center button, slider. seemed totally dead, so after 5 mins, I pulled the battery.
When the Pre finally restarted, (close to a 10 min reboot), all my email, twitter, messaging and contact accounts needed to be re-entered, pretty much any and all custom settings were wiped.
coincidence? maybe, but needless to say, I never tried it again...
Thanks, I'll try & boot & just let it boot for more than 10 mins... see if it comes back up. otherwise I'm gonna webosdoctor it when I get home from work.
UPDATE: it's been booting for 10 mins now... still stuck on the "Palm" logo & black screen...not going any farther.
As for the restarts, I'm not sure if it's the SPB app by itself, cuz I haven't been able to load any SPB videos at all. And before ever installing SPB, my Pre(non-stock) has been freezing up and the restarts have been taking 10 mins or longer since 1.4.1.1 update. My only recourse is, if the restarts get worse, to webdoctor it and leaving it vanilla. I'll miss the patches and homebrew since I rely on my phone for calls more than anything else. I hope this gets fixed soon, 'cuz I still enjoy my Pre tricked out.

What a horrifically stupendous waste of time. Not only are there no recognizable international english channels, but it has subsequently crashed my phone. I'm having to doctor it, it's that bad. Please don't ever download this.
Hi, is your phone Pre or Pre Plus?
I'm in the UK , so it's the normal Pre unfortunately. I can't even get to the doctoring stage. the phone just refuses to load any OS whatsoever. I left it overnight to charge having some hope it would reboot but to no avail.
Nothing.
I'm not happy
UPDATE: I've managed to locate instructions to put the phone into recovery mode and am now Doctoring it. Still a pain in the arse

The least that SPB could have done is read the Palm Documentation on WebOS synergy! It was as if I left my Pre, along with WebOS while in SPB's shell. Didn't do it for me. Sorry.

it works great for me everywhere I have used it (Los Angeles area). Just make sure that the channel is up before clicking on it. If you see a black screen, the channel is down for the moment.
Add me to the list of those with dead Pre's after trying to use this app. Haven't been able to boot my Pre for the last half hour.

+ what is your OS version number? + do you use overclock patches?
Original Sprint Pre running 1.4.1.1. No overclocking. A few display patches.
Locks the Pre up. Have to pull the battery. Will stick on a non-pulsating Palm screen for 15+ minutes trying to boot.
Only way to get it back is Volume Up, USB In, Forced USB Mode, then Doctor.
I don't see the use of this app worth the risk. Either way I'm still gonna miss the V tomorrow! We need a hulu app.
