Quick App: TripAdvisor 12
TripAdvisor (app on left, mobile site on right)
Normally the quick app is an app that we want to draw attention to for positive reasons. TripAdvisor is not one of those apps. To call it half-baked may very well be generous, as the webOS TripAdvisor app is merely a poorly-executed portal to their mobile website. In fact, the website is actually more functional, because you can do things like use the back gesture. In the app there is no way to go back at all, you’re limited to hitting the home button in the top left corner (same as the website) and losing all your progress. The only advantage that the app provides is the nearby button, serving to locate you via GPS. Is finding your location worth the hassle of using the app? Well, it is free, so we can’t ask too much. If you’re looking for a full-featured “what’s around” app, we’re going to recommend something like Zagat To Go or OpenTable, and hope that TripAdvisor gets an update to bring it more in line with what you can get on other platforms.

This has been the trouble with apps for WebOS. They are not very good or are just useless.
Are you a Troll or just plain stupid ?
I've got loads of great webOS (BTW it's webOS not WebOS)apps, both HomeBrew and App Catalog.
Myself and others must be stupid then if we think that most of the apps aren't that great. It isn't a direct attack on you so please stop with the offensive remarks.
He's a troll. A sad little dweeb with nothing better to do than try to rip on the the OS of a phone with far more inherent slickness and usability than whatever piece of crap he uses. Most likely an iDon't.
I have a Pre and the fact remains that Palm have made a hash of it from marketing to getting devs to write apps. Don't take my word for it, these are things that big players in the market have said and look at Palm now!
The OS is very very good. The build quality isn't and the app store is far far from how people would like to see it. So a 'troll' or a 'd'weeb' i am not and an iPhone owner i am not.
Hey, guess what showed up today in the App Catalog...EVERYTHING!! Including Palm. To the highest bidder.
I agree with the article. However, this is a company that has already developed a light-weight, easy to use mobile site...why reinvent the wheel? Sure, they could add more features and functionality using webOS, however, it's a learning curve and a lot of work. Palm's stance on "Hey it's web-based...if you know html, css, and javascript you are good to go", isn't necessarily true. The Mojo framework is a bit complicated (not as much as other platforms), but there is still a learning curve. I for one am glad that there is an "app" for tripadviser, and I hope they develop on the platform, but if they don't...I have a quick easy way to access their mobile site!
Hey, get off the guy's back, he's entitled to his opinion. I Love my Pre, but I would have to agree, the overall quality of Apps is poor. If you think the webOS apps are better than what is being produced on other platforms, then you haven't tried any of the other platforms.
People are too sensitive in this forum. They think palm is the best but look how bad they are failing with their sorry butt hardware. By the way tomorrow i get my 8th palm pre. Gotta love the quality of this pieces of crap phones. Hopefully June 6 is the launch day for the EVO the day palm pre dies.
the first poster is right 50% of the apps are GARBAGE
BTW this phone should be call the palm PATCH not the pre most basic features that come on a dumb phone had to be patched from the get go into this phone, another reason for the epic failure.
does have tripadvisor uk app ?
