Unfortunately, this game is going to get great reviews. That's more a measure of how much people want any sort of games on WebOS rather than of the quality of the game. Good, but not great, graphics and simple controls make a good way to pass time. There are deficiencies, though: 1) Bosses should *never* have an attack that simply cannot be countered. This game has just that. A boss' missile launched at low enough altitude can't be defeated. 2) If the player's ship is scrolled all the way to one side, half of the weapons can't be accessed. Since the game pauses to switch weapons, why put them in an arc around the ship? For that matter, why not put them in the center of the screen? In fact, another problem is... 3) It's far too easy to select the wrong weapon. Again, since the game pauses anyway, why not make the weapons icons both in the center of the screen and much larger? Yes, you can just switch again, but the game has progressed during that time, enough that missiles may no longer be targetable. This is a problem since... 4) Bosses are far too well armored. I hit one of them with hundreds of plasma shots (level 5, I think) and still didn't defeat the thing. I'm still working on it. It's one thing to have a strong opponent. It's another when it takes so long to kill the damn thing that hand fatigue becomes a genuine concern. And when it can fire missiles in such a way that a plasma shot hides it until it's too low to counter, that makes the bosses that much more difficult. Developer: tedium != challenge.
I think the review above is quite biased. This is a great, very addictive game with great graphics, music, sound and concept. Bosses aren't really all that hard if you pack up on seeking missiles throughout the game and master bosses' pattern of motion/attack. Two things that really do bother me about this game however are: 1- Credits that you can use at the store are given at random. Some games you get loads of em, some games you get none. Store and increasing the level of your weapons is critical in this game. For such a critical component of the game, things shouldn't be left to "random". If I play good I should make more credits. 2- I do agree that weapon selection can be a problem on the far left and right edges of the screen. Edges should also be better defined. Half of the ship shouldn't be outside the screen. If that's done, the weapon selection problem could be avoided as well. If I could give 4,5 stars I would. This is a great game and negatives it has aren't really worth losing one complete star, let alone receiving only a 1-star rating like the previous review.
